Great for Motorcycling 2008-07-03
I am really happy with the quality and comfort of these earphones. They work great while wearing a motorcycle helmet - even though after a few hours they make my ears a little sore. That is probably due to my ridiculously small ear canals and not the earphones themselves (even my custom ear plugs make my ears hurt). My husband bought a pair, and so did a few of our friends. We're all very happy with them. They come with several different sized rubber and foam plug options as well as a very nice, small carrying case. I really like the fact that they isolate outside sound so well - a must on my very noisy motorcycle. I use the smallest rubber plugs and I noticed they seal even better if you follow the manufacturer's recommendation and make them a little wet before inserting them. Kind of feels a little gross at first - not unlike getting a wet willy from some creepy, weird uncle, but it's effective nonetheless. My only complaint is the clip - it's largely useless when hauling down the road with the wind tugging at the wires. Overall, an awesome product. If I ever lose this pair, I'll most definitely buy a replacement set. Prices can range from 72 - 135 bucks, so shop around.

Earplugs that play music 2008-06-23
After reading the reviews about this product I decided to go with these headphones. I decided to purchase these to remove the noise of the engines while I'm flying. I was doubtful that these small headphones could produce quality sound. I was delightfully surprised. If you're looking for something with heavy bass these won't do it. They do produce crisp clear sounds with nice high, mids, and lows. They have also fixed many of the issues that were problems with the original white version of these. Namely Right and Left are clearly labeled, 90 degree connection to connector, and are easy to remove. The one minus I found was that the only ear pieces I could get to seal properly were the expanding foam(ear plugs). For those of you looking to purchase these I would say if you don't like having ear plugs in your ears you might want to look at something else.

Very satisfied! 2008-06-19
I purchased the ER6i earphones primarily for use while motorcycle touring. I ride a sport-touring bike with a full face helmet. The low profile of these in-ear earphones allows a really nice fit under the helmet. Sound quality completly meets my expectations and matches units costing significantly more. The solid fidelity of the earphones combined with the noise reduction offered by the in ear design eliminates the need to really "crank up" the i-Pod in order to hear the music. I am very satisfied with these earphones and recommend them highly!

Excellent Sound Isolation & Music Quality 2008-06-18
Based on recommendations from fellow motorcyclists, I purchased a set of these for use with my iPod while riding. (I always were earplugs at highway speeds). These are as sound isolating at the best foam ear plugs I have used and they provide excellent sound, base included as well. While I have these on and music playing, I cannot hear people talking to me right next to me (a possible disadvantage).

As a bonus, I now mow my lawn with a power lawnmower and listen to high quality music on my iPod or National Public Radio radio on my Sangean DT-210V!

Amazing and highly recommended. No problems after a month and 1/2 of regular use!

Good product with great customer service 2008-06-18
Once you get the right ear tips for your ears, these ear buds sound great. They very effectively isolate the outside noise. Etymotic customer service was courteous and helpful in sending samples of other ear tip sizes so I could find the ones that fit me best.

Outstanding 2008-07-18
These earphones are superb ! This is actually the second time I have purchased these - my dog ate the first set! The bass is great - if you remember to properly insert them into your ear to creat a seal. They block outside noise just as they say they do and the sound quality is outstanding.

"quiet" pleased 2008-07-17
These replaced a pair of JVC noise cancellation jobs I've had for a few years. They are somewhat bulky, over-the-ear headphones that require batteries to reduce the noise of my tractor. The ER6i's are a nice replacement. I couldn't get the proper fit with the rubber flanges, so I use the foam inserts. Comfortable and snug, these headphones truly reduce the noise from my tractor. The bass is not what I'm used to, but I've read in a variety of places that bass is often artificially reproduced in other headphones and do not represent true audio. I'm not sure about that. Anyway, the high end is superb. I've heard instruments in some of my favorite tunes that I've never heard before!

so-so sound 2008-07-12
I like the design but was not close to satisfied with the sound quality. They isolate noise extremely well but the bass is thin and the music sounds tinny. I've had earbuds that cost less sound much better but I haven't had anything sit as snugly and reduce outside noise as the Etymotics. I bought them to wear while riding a motorcycle but I'm going to find something else.

Etymotic Research ER6i Isolator In-Ear Earphones 2008-07-03
The biggest advantage of the earphones are its size and weight: small and light. The best place and occasion to use them are when one's sitting down in a flight. Its noise reducing capability is as good as some of the better noise cancellation headphones I have used. I also use it during my daily walk. It cuts down the ambient noise but I can hear my own foot steps, which is somehow enhanced by the way the earphones are wore. The base on the phones is not as good as the original earphones with the iPod when one listens to relatively quiet music in a quiet place. Overall I think this product is still the best compromise among noise-reducing effect, size, and weight. Etymotic Research ER6i Isolator In-Ear Earphones (Black)

Falanged tips are the key, took me a week to get these things to work right 2008-07-03
I bought these mainly because the overall good reviews of it. But once I received them I felt I spent a lot of money on only a mediocre set of headphones. This was because I found the falanged tips, the ones shown on the product, impossible to place in my ears. So i resorted to the foam tips, which are provided, much easier to insert. However, bass was lacking in all of my music and i was largely disappointed. Noise canceling was great though even with the foam tips. But tonight as I decided to write my review I gave the falanged tips another try and I finally found how to insert them correctly in my ear and to my surprise the bass came in! I can now finally feel okay about spending nearly $80 on a set of headphones. The sound is pretty darn good, but I still gotta say it is a pain to get these suckers in right, but once you find it you will be rewarded.
