The inMotion iMX2 docking station provides portable, high-performance stereo amplification to enjoy XM Satellite Radio programming in the home, office, outdoors just about anywhere. This docking station with built-in speakers is compatible with Delphi MyFi XM Satellite Radio Receiver. The docking station acts as an amplified extension of the receiver to deliver crisp, high-quality sound. Superior MaxxBass technology accentuates the deep notes so there's no need for a separate subwoofer. The unit also recharges the receiver automatically when it's docked. Functional, if unspectacular 2008-04-05
This review is based on the current cost of this unit, which is less than one fifth of the original price.

I do not use this with an XM receiver, I simply use it with a normal mp3 player, so I can not comment on any additional functionality it may have with the receiver (though, by appearance, it seems it does nothing other than have a spot for the antenna to go. It comes with an auxiliary input on the back, and a rather awkward ~4" cable. My mp3 player (a Sandisk Sansa e280) does not really fit in the dock in any manner; ah, the cost of being cheap!

The sound? Well, it isn't impressive, but it isn't going to make anyone retch, either. I'm picky about audio, and could describe in fifty ways how it doesn't sound very good, but, in all honesty, it is no better or worse than the majority of other similar sound docks, the majority of which cost far more.

The unit looks pretty good, just as it does in the photos. Much of it is hard plastic (which resonates and does hurt sound quality), even the speaker grille is thick, hard plastic(a rather questionable build decision, likely decided upon purely from a cost standpoint), though the upper surface where the volume control is a nice soft rubber. The +/- volume control is handled by buttons under soft rubber. There's only a bit of tactile feedback, and the volume jump each time you press the button is too large, for fine control I need to change the volume on the mp3 player itself. All in all, I couldn't expect much better out of something that costs so little.

The biggest strength of this unit is that it runs off of 4 AA batteries, gets good battery life (~15 hours off of a set of alkalines), and can play loudly enough without distortion to attain normal listening levels in larger rooms.

If you're in the market for an iPod dock or something similar, and do not see a need for a remote control, clock, or other integration, this is definitely worthy of consideration. If you want real integration with your mp3 player, this is obviously not such a good choice, it's merely a battery powered portable speaker.

If you're looking for a unit that actually sounds good, look away from the plastic sound docks, and take a look at something like the Kloss Model 1.

Altec Lansing IMX2 2008-01-05
I have enjoyed this product both indoors and using it battery operated outdoors. It's very versatile and relatively easy to use. I did have an issue with the back support piece breaking. Trying to work with Altec Lansing on getting it repaired was an excercise in frustration. For more than 6 months they did not return my phone calls or e-mails. When I did get a person they were rude and not helpful. Finally 8 months after I sent my unit in for repair did they send me a replacement. No apologies for their poor service. So I would recommend the product not expect anything from the company.

Okay Sound but LOUD Power On 2007-12-07
I agree with everyone that says the unit has decent sound. That aside, the real positive is the price because it has a couple annoying issues that I hoped were unique to mine but I found out later I wasn't alone. Okay, the problem, the unit does not remember your last volume setting so when you turn it on, it's start out very loud. Also, the speaker pops occasionally. A-L suggested I lower the line output of my receiver to minimize the volume issue but that's a lame solution. As for the popping, the instructions tell you to turn on the XM receiver or mp3 player first to minimize the problem but it's not totally effective. Word is from A-L that the popping occurs at the end and start of songs. In summary, all I can say is, I'm glad it was expensive.

Good sound for the size 2007-06-08
I bought this unit when I found a good bargain on it after the newer XM radios became more state of the art. If you have an XM Myfi, this is an awesome unit, especially if you can get it at a very low price. Some sellers were selling this unit as high as $169 when it came out. I paid about $30 with shipping and for the price it was well worth it.

I like the idea that it came with a cord to plug in an auxiliary device like an IPOD. I also use it as a bigger speaker for my Laptop. For a small unit, this unit has a great sound. Other reviews stated that the overall construction of the unit might have been cheap and the unit might not seem to be made well. My feeling on that is to take good care of the unit and it will last you a long time. The unit came with a really awesome black case that was more than adequate to keep the unit nice for travel. I appreciated this highly because I am in the music industry.

One final point is that this unit can run on small AAA batteries or AC power. It came with an AC plug as well. I am more than happy with this purchase. In fact, I bought two of them.

The audio system works as expected and has good quality sound. The only down side is the way the wires have to be routed when using an external antenna.

THIS SPEAKER HAS A CHEAP PLASTIC BASE. IT DOES NOT LIKE TO BEND. IF BENT OR PUSHED INTO THE OPEN POSITION THE PLASTIC STOP TABS WILL BRAKE OFF. The base will no longer hold the speaker up. The sound quality is as expected.

Good over all device for listening to XM2Go 2006-08-10
This device solved my problem of listening to my XM2Go away from the home base...when a whole group of people wanted to hear the music. The speaker is providing great sound with good
amplification. The unit also recharges the XM2Go. The instructions were easy to follow.

I love this product 2006-07-05
I couldn't have been happier with this purchase. It was everything I hoped for. For the money, you couldn't find more clarity in sound. It is definitely worth buying. I use it when I'm camping and have no access to television. I am able to hear the news and music without turning on a television. Who needs a picture anyway.

Altec Lansing 2006-07-04
Altec Lansing has decent prices but the products are shoddily made. If they work, they're ok, but most likely they'll break in some small way the day after the warranty expires. If you can understand their support people- it helps if you've been to Mumbai-all they seem capable of doing is reading company policy to you.

Twice I've been seduced by their prices-both times I've been burned. I would never use them again, ther're too many manufacturers who take pride in they're product and service.
