Yellowed and saggy after a few months. 2007-09-25
Looked great out of the box, but after a few months, I've just had to dump it. The screen cover was sliding all over the place, letting all sorts of grime in and resulting in scratches. The plastic used to be clear but turned a nasty icky yellow on the corners - it's not just dirty, as I've washed it thoroughly; it's the plastic itself that changed colors.

Tough Skin 2007-09-05
So here's the deal:

Pro's : it protects my ipod from just about everything. Not a scratch on my ipod and that's the way I like it. It's durable and does what it's supposed to.

Con's : the screen cover is ill fitting and gets scratched very easily. Also, does make a sleek ipod too bulky to put in your pocket. Belt clip is flimsy for the size as well.

Overall, 4 out of 5 starts for the above con's.

Good enough. For a while. 2007-02-15
Background: I have owned my 30 Gigabyte iPod and Speck Toughskin case for almost six months now. I have primarily used my iPod while traveling through Europe last fall (2006). Now I generally carry my iPod with me to school and work. During this time I have generally had the Toughskin on my iPod unless I wish to use it in my car with the adapter I also purchased.

Use: Normally I carry my iPod in my back pack while in school or in my coat pocket with the case on the iPod. I did use the belt clip while traveling in the airport, however with bulky clothing I have found it easier to just place in a large pocket. Granted with the Toughskin my iPod will not fit into any jean/khaki pant pocket. It will fit into a cargo style pocket though.

1. The case is large, but seems quite protective.
2. The screen, though clear at first, has started to become scratched and hazy over the past couple of months.
3. The belt clip is sturdy and have never felt as though my iPod would all off. HOWEVER, the push tab to open the clip has broken off. This tab cracked about a month into use of the Toughskin and I knew it was only a matter of time before it broke. Now, after six months of use that time has come.
4. The 30 Gig insert has left marks on the back of my iPod.
5. I have noticed some discoloration of the Toughskin. I suppose this is to be expected.
6. The bulkiness of it can sometimes make it hard to select songs.

Conclusion: Great protection but a bit bulky and hard to use sometimes.

80gb, 60gb is now obsolete 80gb is the same size though, very good at protecting, minor bulkiness for what is does, no wheel coverage unfortunately.

Good case, but don't remove it. 2006-12-19
This case with its nubby rubber corners does a good job of protecting the iPod but it has a few downsides, some significant, some not so much.

First, it is a struggle to get this into the case. You have to wiggle it in through the screen window and keep pushing it down like you're packing a suitcase. Then you must insert the clear plastic window protector to cover the screen.

At that point it's ready to use but a few things bothered me. The bottom syncing port is completely unprotected; second the cutout for the thumbwheel has too little beveling creating an unappealing dropoff between the case and the wheel (unlike the Marware Sidewinder); third the top of the screen protector is held in place by a very thin edge of the case and I kept expecting the protector to come out (although it never actually did).

The belt clip that comes with it is a good design that swivels making it easy to clip the iPod on and unlikely it will accidentally come off. Unfortunately the plastic peg that protrudes from the case left a circular mark on the back of my iPod after only about a week of moderate use. Finally, if you have to remove the iPod from the case for anything, expect to wiggle it out and have to wiggle it back in later.

So, three stars for good protection, but it loses a couple for being awkward to use.

Excellent for the clumsy iPodder 2008-07-02
I got this product because I am very prone to dropping my stuff. My 30Gb iPod has no scratches even though its been dropped in this case at least 20 times. After about 5 months, however, the screen cover has started to become a little unclear because of scratch build-up. Speck does sell replacement screens for not too much. I gave a four star because of the screen, but also because I wasn't able to fit the FM radio transmitter with it on. I needed to cut away a small portion near the port on the bottom. That doesn't affect the protection, but it has a little space for dust now that I need to clean every so often.

All factors taken in, it's well worth your money to protect your iPod.

Starts to show it's age, so clean it... 2008-04-07
I have had this for a few years now and the clear skin gets a bit dirty after a while. A good scrub with a dish sponge brings it back. It is also a bit bulky, but it protects your ipod from bumps and bruises. It took a 5 ft fall on cement without a problem.

Perfect 2008-01-29
This is the best thing I've ever bought for my iPod. It is, in a word, perfect.

Bounces better than a hard shell. 2008-01-12
As with almost any case, its use precludes that of using a lot of other accessories, but I really don't mind - the first time I dropped the iPod on the street and there was no damage, I was sold.

The cutout for the clickwheel is actually not an issue - the raised barrier prevents most stuff from scratching the wheel. Likewise the dock connector portion is fine - you might want to get Sendstation's dock extender, though.

It does have a little trouble keeping the edges of the screen protector covered, but the screen itself is fine, and there's enough overlap that the pod itself is unscratched. For that matter, though, I'm not so much worried about scratches as I am about my DROPPING IT ONTO CONCRETE. And for when I'm that clumsy, it's a dream.

(Oh, yeah - as other people have noted, it works fine with the 80 gig 5.5 gen. It's effectively sized the same as the old 60 gig. I'd assume that the Classics would work as well.)

I'm Loving It 2007-11-26
Just a great iPod accessory. I'm rough on my toys and tend to drop them frequently. This has probably saved my iPod from taking any serious damage if it were unprotected. it's also seriously reduced all the scratches I put on it.
No real complaints about this.
