Bill in RI 2008-04-25
I was satisfied with the stands for the price i paid. I continue to explore Amazon for other deals.

Not really worth $33, let alone MSRP of $60 2008-03-21
It's an extremely simple item to construct. Took me all of five minutes.

But in those five minutes, I noted numerous imperfections in the cheap finish, as well as nicks and chips that shouldn't be there if this is the "high quality" fiber-wood they say it is. I touched it up with Sharpie, so it'll do. They are a good size and fit for my setup. I might end up painting over them and giving them a lacquer finish.

All in all, I wouldn't recommend these. I've seen high school wood shop students build nicer stands.

Ouch.. Worse purchase in years 2008-03-04
I'm not the one to write reviews, but this really got me upset. Both stands had noticeable flaws upon deliver (e.g. scratches, glued pieces coming up). I couldn't believe my eyes when I started inspecting them. I first thought maybe shipping had something to do with it, but after close examination it was obvious that it was just a cheap, poorly manufactured product. I actually called the number on the little stop sign since that seemed to be the recommended option. They just told me that it was shipping damage and that I needed to work it with Amazon. There was absolutely no effort offered to figure out a solution to assist a customer that was obviously disturbed with the quality of the product. I'll be buying my next pair of affordable speaker stands at a local store.

Does the job, but wire guide has issues 2008-01-31
I have both the 17.5 and 24 inch stands as two matching pairs to hold my front and back speakers for my 5.1 home theater. As others have said, these speaker stands are easy to assemble (10-15 minutes). All that is necessary is a Phillip head's screwdriver. You will also need a pair of pliers if you want to use the rug cleats, which are unnecessary in my case even though my speakers weigh 2.8 pounds, as the stands have a very nice heavy, broad base.

I find the finish to be fine, and the black color matches all the black audio visual components I have.

The one complaint I have involves the wire guide. There is indeed a slot up one of the posts to hide the speaker wire. There is also a hole in the bottom of the base to thread the wire through. First off, this means if the wire is thread through this hole then the stand may no longer be level. But, more importantly, there is no hole to thread the wire through on the top plate. So, the wire still has to come around the top plate.

This is a very minor issue, but important if hiding the speaker wire is important to you for aesthetic reasons.

Other than that, the stands feel stable and do the job well.

Good product but not quite as advertised 2007-09-28
These are pretty solid pieces for the price but as other reviewers have discussed, they are certainly not the satin quality you may be led to believe. But most importantly, Amazon has the wrong product number on one of their links. Be sure to check the model number...WC-17.5 are actually the 17 1/2 inch versions, not the 23 inches listed on the dimensions. Amazon has both - just make sure you check the model number and order the ones you want.

Not as advertised 2007-08-10
These are "OK" stands, but not as advertised. These are in no way "Black Satin". Also, this model is WC-17.5...well, it would seem obvious that they are in fact 17.5 inches tall, NOT 23 inches as in the description.

don't like the finish 2007-08-08
These are not what I thought I was getting. I expected the "black satin" finish to be that low gloss black wood grain type finish commonly seen on bookshelf type speakers. Instead, it's a rough black powder coat finish directly on MDF particle board. It looks like countertop formica instead of wood. As a woodworker, I have always understood a "satin" finish to mean a smooth finished surface with a subtle luster (as opposed to a glossy polyurethane finish). It seems pretty misleading to advertise these as "black satin wood" speaker stands. There is nothing "woodlike" about them.

Nice little numbers 2007-08-05
These are easy to assemble with just a phillips head screw-driver in about 10 minutes max. They are durable, they look nice and they are sturdy. I other words - as advertised. Highly recommended.
