WILL NOT work on WindowsXP 64 bit
2008-11-20
Did everything I could think of to make it work. Just not designed for WindowsXP 64 bit
Just plug and print
2008-10-28
Pros: Easy to set up; fairly flexible cable easy to run neatly from printer to computer; like the color and look of the braided cable
Cons: Not as long as advertised, though plenty long combined with parallel cable of the printer; mispellings on the packaging :)
Set up was a breeze for my HP LaserJet 1100 and Vista x64 computer. There's no manual and one part did trip me up for a brief moment (couple seconds), so if you're unsure, here are the steps I took. Certain variations of the sequence would probably also work.
1) Attach parallel end
2) Plug USB end into computer
3) Power on printer (an important step)
4) Computer recognizes and adds the exact printer model (how?!)
5) Print!
So in summary just plug and play (great job on this Windows). I wonder if this will work with a wireless print server. Even though parallel port print servers exist, converting to USB with this cable could in the end could be cheaper and offer more choices of print servers too.
Works as promised

Plugged it in and my computer (Vista) recognized it right away. So far, so good!
Works perfectly on Vista computer with older single function printer (HP722C)
2008-08-19
This cable worked perfectly for my HP 722C on a brand new Dell PC with no printer port. I had read in reviews or somewhere else that these cables would not hep if your printer was multifunction (or that only the printing function would work), so since my printer was just a printer, this cable worked fine.
Was deliverd within about 3 days from the order.
It works only for printers

If you want to connect other parallel devices, like scanners, this converter does NOT work! Select a PCMCIA to Parallel Port Card instead!
Poor Quality

The USB to DB25 Adapter provides you with an external DB25 (Db-25 female) Plug-n-Play connection for use with computers, notebooks, and hand held computing devices that support USB. This cable adapter has a standard type A USB plug.
True Plug & Play Adapter

I connected one end of this adapter cable to my printer parallel cable and other end to computer USB port. Windows XP automatically detected the printer and started printing. It can't get easier than that !!!!
If XP does not have built-in drivers for your printer you have to install the drivers first from CD come with the printer. Most printer drivers can be downloaded from manufacturer's website these days.
Works with my HP LaserJet 6L
2008-02-13
This cable works with my HP LaserJet 6L in Windows XP Pro SP2. I give it 4-stars instead of 5, because I had to do some fiddling with the Port setting to be recognized (USB001 instead of LPT1).
works great after drivers are installed
2008-02-09
I bought 2 of these to work with old HP722 printers at work. It took a little doing to get the drivers installed. It came with mini cd, but my slot driven cd drive does not accept mini cds. I was able to download other drivers from the Internet, but they were not in English. (An oriental language). I guessed at which button was the correct one to hit and I must have been right. Finally, after a day of finagling with it they work great. Saving me hundreds of dollars not having to buy a new printer for each building I work in. I was a little surprised they were only USB 1.1, but they are working with legacy equipment that can't work that fast anyway.
Does not work with Vista
2008-02-07
Simply put. This cable does not work with Vista as others who have reviewed have said. The description says it does, but that is false advertising. I have spent too long trying to get it to work and am throwing it away. Not worth sending back.
