Amazon's great service shines again. Received the trimmer several days ahead of the original time estimate. Everytime I've ordered from Amazon I've been 100% satisfied.
I've probably had half a dozen trimmers over a period of time. Without a doubt this is by far the best I've ever had. The 2 most outstanding features for me are the effortless starting and the thickness of the string. Pulling the starter cord feels like trying to start an engine with the spark plug out. For this senior citizen that means a lot. The trimmer string is .093" and it is more durable than my previous .080" string trimmers. With the .080" string trimmers I would have bumped the head to extend the string at least twice as much as I have with this one which would mean replacing that darn string much more often.

Easy to assemble and started very easily! I love the clutch that stops the trimmer from spinning when not using the throttle. The only downfall I've found is it's somewhat awkward when trimming as the engine interferes with my range of motion as it hits my arm when I move certain directions.
Good Trimmer 2008-05-30
So far this seems like a very good trimmer. Has good power, starts easily, and is easy to handle. The guard seems a little flimsy. It came with a broken part (air cleaner cover) which was replaced promptly by Poulan customer service, no questions asked.

Poulan is a good brand, but this particular product is very disappointing. I thought when I ordered this product the Poulan Pro 17-Inch 25cc Gas-Powered Trimmer/Brush Cutter #PP325 $159.99 that I was getting both the Poulan Pro 17-Inch 25cc Gas Powered String Trimmer #PP125 $109.99 and the Poulan Pro Brush Cutter Trimmer Attachment #PP4000C $52.50 in one package and saving $2.50 by buying them in a combination package. However this package does not contain the brush cutter trimmer attachment. Instead it only contains the brush cutter blade and head. A second lower shaft assembly with the quick connect is NOT included in this package. So you have to actually take the brush cutter blade and head off with an allen wrench and reassemble it as a string trimmer when you want to change functions. Also note that Amazon has a no returns policy on gas powered products (read the "special shipping information" section). Order the two items separately and you will be much happier with what you get. (Note the prices I listed are the current prices at the time I ordered, and prices do change).

Great product, starts easy. I hardly rev it to the max, about halfway is all I need. my only con is when you extend the cutting line the blade to trim the line to size doesn't cut well. Not sure if it's dull or not but that's a minor complaint. Great product
Poulan Pro 17-Inch 25cc Gas Powered String Trimmer starts like a dream 2008-07-08
Firstly take the time to make sure you have "new" gas not the stuff you kept in the back of the shed/garage the past 2 summers for the chain saw/lawn mower. Secondly take the time to get the proper oil/gas ratio this is critical and if you get it wrong the machine wont start or will buck and stall under power EVERY TIME! Perhaps it will run and your neighbors will think the Queen Mary is steaming into port!!
With that being said my Poulan Pro 17-Inch 25cc Gas Powered String Trimmer came partially assembled which was no big deal as i put it together in about 20 minutes. HOWEVER be very careful with the plastic parts on the handle because if you torque them down too much as i did the plastic screw holes will snap internally. This will cause the handle to "wander" when strimming which will not only be aggravating but potentially dangerous. I fixed mine with a .49 cent "u bolt" Once that was all sorted it started up first crank and i preceded to tear it up literally. I refuse to baby what i consider a "throw away" item so i don't. No sir i cut down fence line weeds small vines and brush with out a moments hesitation. Today in my haste however i even managed to "trim" some fence wire. OOPS! The wire wrapped around the trim head faster then i could stop the machine and killed the engine for me. I thought perhaps i had broke the trim head with my silly mistake. To my great suprise AFTER i untangled the wire mess the trim head was fine and the Poulan Pro 17-Inch 25cc Gas Powered String Trimmer started right up and went back to work.
In summary a decent machine at a knockdown price. This machine most certainly isn't commercial grade but for the average yard or a tad bigger (i am on 3 acres) this is a sweet deal. The easy start is a plus because i had an older Stihl i finally gave away because it took too long to crank/start.
I also bought the blade attachment which i haven't used yet but like the idea of a separate shaft that are separate in each item from the main engine assembly. That way if one shaft breaks u can still use other attachments if you have them available. Big big selling point to me because i see a pole saw in my immediate future too.
Great trimmer 2008-07-06
I received the Poulan PP125 very quickly from Amazon. After I followed the instructions the trimmer started and ran perfectly. I have used it three times with good results. I could recommend it to anyone who wants a strong trimmer. Sears Garden Centers carries the 40 to 1 ratio oil mixture recommended for this unit,

I don't often offer reviews, but I am very impressed and pleased with this product so far. It was quick to snap together right out of the box, and took just 5 minutes before I had it assembled, fueled and started. I have used both consumer and commercial grade equipment, and this has power to spare for my home use.
I've used it just a few times and have already ordered the edger and blower attachments as well. 4 stars instead of 5 only because I haven't had it long enough to test its longevity.
Good price, but could be better quality.

After many years, my Homelite died. This seemed like a good replacement, and the Poulan name has always been good. Out of the box, it started with very little effort, but after warming up, it won't respond to the pull of the trigger. Only coaxing it up to speed works, telling me it needs a tune-up, which I can do, but some can't, and it should have been done at the factory. Also, the string advancing knob is very cheap, thin plastic. This is the part that will contact the ground and will wear quickly. For pennies, it could have been produced with a much beefier bottom, but I guess Poulan is looking to sell replacements at $3-$5 each. 20 years later, the Homelite ran better and it's knob was at least a little heavier. Also, the Poulan spool doesn't hold near the quantity of string (the Homelite was a single string trimmer, which made little difference in cutting), and the spool snaps into place onto plastic clips, where the Homelite knob had a metal machine screw built into it, securing the spool by screwing the knob into place. I'm just waiting for the plastic catches to wear or break. Still, I guess I'd recommend it. For a little over $100, what can we expect.

One of my few disappointing online purchases, the item did not work out of the box. Amazon policy for gas-powered items is not to accept a return. I did not pay enough attention to the prior post which referenced this policy. It also took awhile to find a telephone number for Amazon support and the representative I spoke with did not speak English very well. At first, she thought I would be able to return the item. When she couldn't arrange this, a supervisor explained to her that I would have to take the item for warranty repair.
The closest Poulan repair dealer is an hour from my house, 2 weeks for them to check the unit, the clutch was defective, and they had to order the part. In all, it was 3+ weeks before I had a working trimmer.
Trimmer is okay, not worth the aggravation...it does take awhile to get it going , idles rough, and the trimmer is slow to respond. I should have bought a trimmer at Home Depot
