Editorial Review
If you ever find the need to grind, cut, sharpen, polish, engrave, or to clean intricate parts, the Dremel Stylus Rotary Tool will get the job done. The Dremel 1100-01 is a unique handheld cordless rotary tool that utilizes the new lithium-ion battery technology. Once the 7.2-volt battery has been charged it can retain a charge for up to 18 months of non-use. But, I doubt this tool will be set aside for long. The variable speed tool, 5,000 - 25,000 RPM, can be used by homemakers, hobbyists and artists, to clean, sand, grind, cut, polish, drill and engrave. The soft pistol grip housing fits comfortably in the hand for outstanding balance and precision control. The docking station not only holds the Stylus when not in use but also recharges the battery to provide long-lasting performance. Some of the most commonly used quick change bits are included in a handy storage case. --C. Dwight Barnett

Dremel 1100-01 Rotary tool 2007-11-11
I have used this tool for a varity of shop projects in wood and metal, and find it to be of fine quality and excellent performance. The tool is well balanced and easy to handle. The battery life is extremely good. The lithium-ion battery, unlike ni-cads, has the advantage of being able to sit idle for months without loosing it's charge. This is a real plus. It seems that Dremel is now a division of Robert Bosch tool corp.

I highly recommend this product.

Perfect for the miniature hobbyist! 2007-10-29
I've been using my Stylus for about 8 months now, and I can't remember how I got by without it! The compact, cordless design fits in your hand perfectly and is the ideal tool for working with small and delicate materials. I use mine primarily for small-scale modeling (miniature figures, buildings, etc), and work with metal, plastics, and wood. My Stylus handles all the drilling, cutting, grinding, and sanding I used to do by hand; I can now finish projects in a fraction of the time! I'm amazed by the power Dremel has packed into this little tool and the battery life is excellent (I've used it all day without placing it back into its docking/charging stand, but it does usually live there). The Stylus is vastly superior to a standard rotary tool if you need it to fit in small places, work at different angles, or don't want a power cord to get in the way. If you're thinking about picking this up, just do it- you won't be sorry.

Smooth, Handy, Powerful, but dead - twice 2007-08-13
The stylus is a very useful little tool for work in the home and doing automotive modifications. If only it lasted. Seems the charging stand, when used as directed, as a cradle for the dremel which keeps it constantly charged seems to destroy the tool's seemingly delicate Li-Ion battery. On top of the heat that the tool generates when it is running, my Stylus - first and second one, only lasted for about 4 months of occasional use (i would say, maybe once a week, for about 5 or 6 minutes). First one i bought would not stay on for more than about 45 seconds - this is after the initial charging period- and then would not turn on at all, returned it got another one, this one worked great until recently when it started doing the OFF after 45 seconds bit, which is hit or miss if it will even turn on. All signs point to a dead Li-Ion battery, after only a few months. Which would stand to reason that if the charging dock stays hot, and the thing gets too hot to hold after about 3 minutes of use, it will destroy its battery very quickly.

Excellent idea, powerful product but still needs a little work. Will be calling support at 1-800-437-3635, hopefully they will work with me.

For the hobbiest to dog grooming 2007-07-26
This handy tool has simplified the tool box as well as the tack box for hobbyists and dog show enthusiasts. From grinding nails a lot easier than the traditional dremel, to carving wood plaques, engraving on glass and mirrors this does it all without the entanglement of a cord. It is perfect to take anywhere in the house, outside in the yard or on the road.

excellent design for medium use 2007-07-17
I used this tool for for cutting metal for jewelry that I make - it is very well designed and very comfortable to use. The charger stand is attractive, keeps everything organized and handy, and grips a work table well - works like a cordless phone charger, just drop it in.

After 30 minutes of continuous use, the device starts to heat up to the point of being uncomfortable to the touch. After about an hour of use, the battery was dead. This is perfectly fine if you are doing light or medium projects, but for heavier users like me - back to the cord we go...

Possibly the perfect tool 2008-02-22
I own this tool and bought one for my Dad, too. It is small, easy to hold, and has an incredible battery life. As hard as I might look, I can not find a single negative about this new version of the Dremel.

Compact and Excellent tool 2008-02-20
This is a great addition to any tool set. It fits comfortably in your hands and can be used for very fine detail work or work where precision is a must. My first task when I got it was to grind and cut out some epoxy putty on a wall right next to some trim (don't ask). I was concerned that my older corded dremel would make this task nearly impossible with its shape and the cord tugging at the tool at just the wrong moments. With this tool I felt completely in control the entire time I used it. It had more than enough power to both grind (using a drum sander and a grinder) and cut using one of the new EZ Lock wheels (wide diameter, finally). I was able to get complete control over the tool and never had to fight it to get exactly the result I wanted.

This is a great evolution to the Dremel design and I would highly recommend it for light to medium use. Heavy cutting I would still leave to the corded units due to their higher RPM and torque.

Also, buy the Dremel Chuck. It will save you tons of time unscrewing and switching collets.

Overall the stylus is a great tool where fine control and precision are required. And it looks like a phaser from classic Star Trek. How can you go wrong?

Perfect for modelers 2008-01-27
I build model cars for a hobby, and have always had some type of Dremel tool on hand, but until the Stylus came along, none were just right for me. They were either too big and powerful for the detail work I do, or the battery would not hold a charge long enough. And few would slow down to a speed suitable for plastics. The Stylus, with its long-life battery and variable speeds, is perfect for plastic modeling. The shape is easier to hold, also, and allows more fine control. The handy charging stand is also great, and it automatically shuts off when the battery is fully charged, something I wish my electric razor would do. The unit is quieter than others I have used, and it has a precision feel to it that gives me confidence when working with close tolerances. I've been modeling for 50 years, and finally there is a tool that meets my needs. It was worth the wait.

what took them so long? 2007-12-21
nice takes a little getting used to but when you do make you think what took them so long to come up with this!

It is growing on me 2007-11-18
At first when I got this dremel, I thought this is just no good, however for certain applications, this is an amazing little tool. It does not have the power to do heavy duty applications, but for lighter duty work, this tool is actually pretty comfortable, it is just a matter of rethinking the old dremel stereotype, no more hand cramping for me. The battery is long lasting and the charging cradle is convenient.
