Times Change...So do Games
2008-07-11
I know that being an original Spyro gamer (since it first came out on PS1) I've grown up alot. I still have all the games from the first playstation and all games from playstation 2. I just couldn't part with them when I sold the the game consoles. I purchased a Nintendo DS...after my Gameboy Advanced was stolen and didn't really think there was anything out there for me...after a search of Spyro on Amazon.com landed me with my first Spyro DS game, "Spyro; Shadow Legacy". I quickly learned that spyro was not going around taping crystallized dragons or chasing egg snatchers any more...and Gnasty Gnorc was a thing of the past. Mind you I hadn't played since "Spyro: Enter the Dragonfly"...which I'd say was mediocre game play at best. I believe that was the last game before Sierra took it over. Well to be quite honest the puzzles in the Spyro of the new age are much more difficult. I had it set on easy...since It had been a while...but if the game sees that it's too easy it automatically adjusts the difficulty...go figure...a smart game:/ There are tons of move I do enjoy using...and have come to master 2(i can use them all) of the 4 breaths...and 1 sheild and 1 fury attack...now finishing attacks...I've never used. Granted I've only had the game for 4 days so give me time to unlock everything and I can make a better review.
In all honesty I have all the old games but wouldn't return to play them for anything other than keeping my youngest niece from seeing Demonic images so soon. I think that the Game play on the old Spyro games are childish and as I grow up more challenges need to be incorporated...and with Sierra's Spyro they've made it better for you. You've got to learn to coordinate your stylus an fingers or you will lose trying to tap on everything on the screen. lol I speak from experience. I am a Spyro die hard fan...and I love the old Spyro...it's just as time goes on Heroes have to grow up...and that's what the new Spyro games are trying to do, have our little Purple friend mature and get stronger.
Spyro, How Once I Loved Thee

This is not the Spyro you remember - If you are a fan of the original three Spyro games put out on the first Playstation, you are probably not going to enjoy this. This game is just awful. The sound is atrocious (seriously, the sound is so bad; grainy and staticy and kind of painful to listen to), the story is non existent, the controls are just plain wrong - everything about it is bad.
I was so looking forward to playing this game on my DS and it being like the old Spyro I remember, but unfortunately it's not the same company putting the Spyro games out and things have gone downhill for our snarky, witty purple friend. The original Spyro would be ashamed of this hollow impersonator.

Ok. The storyline in this game is terrible and there is no emotional depth to the characters. The gameplay is ridiculously redundant. You go from area to area fighting groups of enemies. The stylus usage doesn't work well with the game at all. I often found myself fumbling for the stylus while still trying to press buttons. The fighting mechanics are all done extremely poorly. In some cases you don't even have to be near your enemy and they will still hurt you. There's a ton of specialmoves that you will never care to learn. Too many random button mashing. Ugh. Don't buy this.
A great gift

My daughter received this game for Christmas to be played on her new DS Lite, which she also received. As a female teenager, it is difficult to find games which keep her attention, enlist her imagination, and allow her to play the game more than once. Spyro is a perfect game for her; she enjoys it enough to play it regularly and she especially loves how it looks on the new DS Lite.
