Save Your Money!

This product worked flawlessly as long as the warranty was good. Then....
It shut itself down. I checked Sony's website and found that they would
exchange it.....for $103.04....almost exactly what I paid for it in the
first place. No thanks. I will never buy another Sony product, save for
their TV's. By some fluke, they are excellent.
Great progressive scan 5 disk DVD changer 2007-12-07
I've been using Sony 5 disk DVD changers going back to the 1990's and they've all been great. The last DVD player was a progressive scan 5 disk changer with SACD, and is now in the bedroom because the Sony DVD player I bought back in the 1990's finally died.
This player works great I've only had it for a few months, but it has never given me any trouble, and I like features of the player.
My earlier main player had a great picture with its progressive scan, and to be honest I was a little disappointed in the up-scaling. But a 5 disk DVD changer with progressive scan at this price is a great deal regardless.
By the way I have it hooked up to a Sony 55" 1080i LCD HD TV, and have both the HDMI and a component cable hooked up, and when I switch between the two video input's I do see a subtle difference, but it's not an overwhelming change (however I do view the HDMI input most of the time).
Over all it's produces a great picture, and has all the features I look for in a DVD changer, and at this price level it really is a great buy.
Outstanding Picture Quality 2007-08-25
I've had this player for 9 months and have been very satisfied with its performance. For those that own an HDTV with an HDMI connection, this is a great alternative to the currently high-priced HD-DVD and Blu-ray players and provides a near-HD quality picture at a much lower price. I've compared this player's video output with cable HDTV broadcasts and the DVD picture quality is very close to actual HD.
The player is connected to a 42" Sony HD microdisplay with an HDMI cable. I've also connected a standard 480p player to the same TV using a component cable and the picture quality was far inferior compared with the HDMI connection. The HDMI cable I use is reasonably priced at around $20 and works very well. It isn't necessary to buy an overpriced and overhyped cable like Monster's.
I'll eventually buy an HD player once the HD-DVD vs. Blu-ray issue is settled. I'm very happy with this player in the meantime.
Excellent unit 2007-08-22
I've had this player for over a year and have had absolutly no issues with it. Like most upscaleing dvd players it will only upscale to 720P and 1080I through HDMI-not componet. If you have an older hdtv without either an HDMI or DVI input you will have to look elsewhere-there are a few dvd players that will upscale through componet. I don't use it for playing cds-I have a Panasonic DVD-F87 5 disc player that excells at cds. The picture quality at 720P (at least on my hdtv) looks better than 1080I. Highly rated player in my book.

A little less than what I expected from Sony

I bought this because my home theater (Denon) came with a single play CD/DVD player, and I like to "rack 'em" while we're in the pool listening to CD's - so you don't have to come in every 50 minutes to change music. Also because of the silver finish, which complemented my current system. Very slow disc start up, no multi-disc shuffle as far as I can tell, and very average in every way. Great price, you can beat it - however if you are serious about movies and music, I would buy something more expensive.

There is a button on the clicker -- no need to get up to change the disc that is playing.
