Works great indoors. But there's a cheaper alternative
2008-07-18
I agree with nearly everyone else's reviews-- this antenna works great. I tried a few other ones, both amplified and not, some more expensive than this one, some cheaper. All were returned to the store as miserable failures as none came close to picking up as many channels as this one did-- unamplfied! It is sensitive to position. I was lazy the first couple of months I had it and just left it behind the TV. As a result, the NBC HD station only came in at about 60%. It was barely watchable-- there were many random signal drops which resulted in a stuttering picture that was difficult to watch. I subsequently mounted it on a cheap floor lamp next to the window and with a little adjustment, NBC now comes in at 90-100% and those stutters are rare occurrence.
My suggestion-- it looks like there's a cheaper clone of this antenna here:
Eagle Aspen Dtv2Buhf Directv 2-Bay Uhf Antenna. The reviews for this one seems positive and it looks exactly like the DB2. Since these are just chunks of metal in a certain configuration, I don't see why the Eagle Aspen version wouldn't work just as well (though I don't have first hand experience with it). At more than 33% cheaper than the DB2, if I had it to do over again I'd give the Eagle Aspen antenna a try.
Well pleased

This is a good antenna. I'm currently using it indoors under a metal roof with good to excellent results. I was using a Silver sensor indoor antenna that is in my opinion, the best pure indoor antenna and I would grade the performance of the DB2 as roughly double based on instance of image instability and periods of dropout. The DB2 is intended as an outdoor antenna but is about 1' x 2' in size, 6" deep - small enough to get by inside if aesthetics are not an issue. I have mine hidden in the top of a closet. If I were going to hang it outside, I would have chosen a DB4 or a Channel master 4221. I'm about 20 miles from the local antenna array and signal is good to excellent most of the time.
Not large enouth

It did not do the job for us and we had a professional installer bring his choice and install it. Now we have excellent reception.
Better than cable

I am always a bit skeptical about reviews but this antenna is amazing. I am using it indoors with a Samsung HDTV. I simply have the antenna resting flat on the back of the TV with the corners of the wall supporting the edges, so the antenna is all but hidden. Auto channel setup gives me 25 channels with full siginal strength on nearly all of them. a couple are over the 30 mile advertised limit. GREAT picture. Now i can watch Formula One on Fox with no loss of picture, wowerful.
Excellent reception, even while mounted in the attic

I live in a Houston suburb and bought this antenna after I dropped the cable company. I planned on mounting it on the roof but decided to try it out in the attic first. The manual stated there would be a 40-50% drop in signal quality if it was mounted in the attic, but even with that I get crystal clear picture and sound. The bandwidth meter on my tv shows 6/6 bars for for 22 of the 26 channels it found. Plus, it only took about 10 minutes to mount it to a pipe in my attic and to connect it directly to the wiring in my house. Neither the cable company's "HD" channels, nor indoor antennas that cost $60 came close to the quality of picture and sound I get from this antenna. I would higly recommend this product!
Amazingly good. Great buy!

I never believed a little antenna like this would allow me to pick up full blown HDTV on my new LCD TV. But it did. I can pick up about 8 stations and it's just sitting under my TV pointed at the wall. I'm going to mount it outside because that's supposed to give you 45% better reception. I can hardly wait to see that!
good reception, easy to set up

The antenna provides great reception (with antenna distances of 15-30 miles in my case, mounted outside). It requires very simple assembly and comes with a clamp for easy mounting on a mast mount.
Works Great for UHF HD Stations
2008-07-21
I ordered this antenna after reading the reviews here and it performs just like most of the reviews said: it pulls in all local UHF stations great by just connecting it to the TV and setting it down in back. The HD quality is great, also. It is not designed for, and does not pull in, the one local VHF digital channel that is about 19 miles away. It does get the analog signal quite well, however. To get HD, you have to either get a VHF antenna, or just wait until February 2009 for the change to all digital, when this antenna will work fine. I assume a slightly better signal would be obtained by mounting it outside, but I do not feel the need to do so yet. I am approximately 24 miles from the farthest UHF HD station, but I tried it at my office, which is another 12 miles away, and it still got an excellent SD picture just sitting behind the TV. This is a great product that does exactly what it was designed to do. The designer of this antenna, Antennas Direct, has a new version of this antenna called "Clearstream" that is a little more expensive, but looks much better if appearance is a concern.
Works as advertised

It works almost perfectly even inside. FYI, my condo is third floor and is about 20 miles away from stations.
Lives Up To The Hype!

Dude, this antenna is awesome! I have another antenna, a POWERED one by RCA, that was supposed to be the best. I got six channels with it.
Then, I got the bad dog, the DB2. This thing isn't even powered, and I get 24 channels, here in little old Pueblo, Colorado.
I got a new high-def television, and I gotta say, the channels that broadcast in 1080p look amaaaaaaazing.
I put my old antenna on my older LCD TV in my bedroom, and I can still only get six or so channels. I would splurge for another DB2 for the bedroom, also, except I already bought that other antenna, and it is too late to return it.
And the best part... I am hiding this DB2 antenna behind my new big ol' flat screen TV. Hiding it! I didn't even put it up on the roof. I didn't even have to put it up on top of the TV, or near a window, or in some high point in the room, or some "magic spot". It just gets sweeet reception from its hiding place.
If it's possible to love an antenna, I love this antenna. I have thought about getting cable, because I like VH1 and E!, but I get a boatload of stations now, and probably won't have to get cable unless my girlfriend makes me. So, I figure this $40 antenna saves me at least $40 in cable bills... every month! Over 10 years, I figure I'll save over $5,000. Nice.
Plus, with broadcast stations converting to digital, the channels I do get are perfect. Crystal clear. And actually better than cable, because the signal is uncompressed over-the-air. Cable uses compression.
I am very happy. Hold me.
