Editorial Review
Actiontec's new MegaPlug 85 Mbps Ethernet Adapter ups the ante for ease of use and network expandability. Just plug a MegaPlug Ethernet Adapter in any 2- or 3-prong electrical outlet in one room of your house, and another MegaPlug Adapter in any power outlet, and you've got instant network access across your power lines. What could be easier? If you need a simple way to extend your home network, the MegaPlug 85 Mbps Ethernet Adapter is the quickest and most economical way to do it.Nothing could be easier than creating a network connection with a pair of MegaPlug Ethernet Adapters. Instead of stringing unsightly Ethernet cables all over your house, the Adapters use your home's already installed and hidden power lines to transfer data at up to 85 Mbps, making every available electrical outlet a potential network connection. Your networking possibilities are suddenly endless!Use the MegaPlug 85 Mbps Ethernet Adapter to link your computers together, install a networked printer, or connect another device (scanner, networkable hard drive, etc.) to your network. The Ethernet Adapter even works with all popular gaming consoles, so playing networked games is a breeze. Integrated QoS (Quality of Service) is also included, ensuring smooth data transfers.

Megaplug 85MBPS 2008-08-09
I purchased the Actiontec two megaplug kit to extend my Fios home network because wifi was not fast enough (6 to 24MBPS). I purchased this megaplug to add another computer to the network. These products were suggested by my providers tech support when the WiFi was transmitting too slow. This product was easy to set up and provides a consistent stable connection for the other computers to connect to the Internet.

mostly doesn't work 2008-05-30
The product is super easy to install and worked great right out of the box...for about 2 days. After 2 days of bliss, it began to work less and less. I'd say that it worked about 10% of the time. If it worked on a given day it would work all day, but if it was off, it would stay off for a week or two. Very frustrating.

I have since bought myself a huge coil of cat 5 cable and built myself cables to route through the attic and down through the walls. Given that this procust was purchased to expressly prevent me having to go into the attic, I'd say this purchase was a total waste of time.

Works as advertized out of box. No fiddling needed. 2008-05-25
After totally unsatisfactory wireless links, including fiddling with the Linksys Range Extender I gave up on wireless, using this for connecting two buildings on the property. Plugged in and it ran. Works fine with the Acitontec 85 mbps 4-port hub.

As other reviewers have said, you have a chance it won't work if the two places you want to connect are on the opposite phases of your power feed.

If that happens, it's never gonna work so send it back.

Simple and reliable. 2008-03-04
I bought two of these beauties to connect a PC on the other side of an enormous room to my LAN. It worked out of the box, first time, no configuration necessary. I was impressed.

Being an obsessive gamer, I decided to try this with my PS2. Again, I plugged it in, loaded the network settings via DHCP from my router, and was online in less than a minute.

It literally took longer to unpack the box than to build a new network segment with these devices. Get a few and have the reliability and speed of a wired LAN without running wires or drilling holes. Plug in and go.

It Works as Advertised 2008-01-21
Had a homeplug compatible device (Dish Network HD Receiver/DVR) that I needed to connect to my router in another room. No easy way to run a cable. Bought the Actiontec adapter because of the price. Plugged it in and the Receiver/DVR came right up on the network. Appears to be a stable connection.

Works fine but first one crashed 2008-01-14

Works perfectly 2007-10-26
See my review on the Actiontec MegaPlug 85 Mbps 4-port Hub for details. Bottom line: the pair works flawlessly and were very easy to install.

Works well 2006-10-22
I bought a pair to connect my Panasonic IP Network camera to my router and to the Internet. They have been working very well and are problem-free for the past 6 months. It will even work with my older Linksys 14Mbps Powerline adapter. This adapter is also slimmer and smaller than the Netgear 85Mbps model, which means it won't block the other power plug, unlike the Netgear. It is also less expensive.
