Editorial Review
The Toshiba SD-P1850 Portable DVD player features an 8" Widescreen, TFT LCD Display with 480x234 Pixel Resolution that is great for viewing standard, letterbox and anamorphic DVDs. The SD-P1850 is DivX Home Theater Certified and allows playback of DivX, AVI and MPEG4 (.ASF) compressed files downloaded from the internet from a personal computer and stored on a CD-R/RW. The convenient Audio/Video Input and Output provide connection to an external monitor or using the SD-P1850 screen and speakers as the display device. The built-in 4-In-1 Card Slot accepts Secure Digital, Memory Stick, XD Picture Card, and MultimediaCard. The SD-P1850 also features a JPEG Viewer that enables a user to display digital photographs on the LCD screen or a television set in the JPEG digital format.

I LOVE TOSHIBA! 2007-07-30
I have been very impressed by Toshiba products since my first purchase 5 years ago. What I love about the DVD players and TV combos is that when the movie is stopped, the player remembers the stopped location & will play right where it left off. Even when the tv was turned off. No more of this "trying to find the spot & wasting time in the process" stuff. My only complaint about the portable players is that they only "hold" the stopped point for so long before it doesn't remember anymore. Toshiba is the only brand I have found that has this feature.

HATE the battery, LOVE the machine 2007-07-20
This is a GREAT GREAT GREAT buy for the money. Picture quality is excellent, sound is a lot better than expected -- you can use it with or without headphones. My biggest qualm is the battery -- it's simply a pain to have to latch it on every time...and some of the little nodes in mine have already broke after 6 months -- luckily Toshiba has a good customer service center who is sending out a replacement. In total, this machine is worth buying -- just be wary of the battery...

wicked awsome dvd player!! 2007-05-19
i got this dvd player last november, and it has performed exquisitly ever since. the picture is really good. i like how thiers 2 headphone pluggins, so i can watch it with my best friend using the headphones. the sound is definately better on the headphones, but good either way. i love the portability! the battery runs for over six hours, and thir are attachments so i can watch it and charge it in the car. this is great. tottaly worth the money! definity buy it!!!

Toshiba Portable DVD 2007-05-06
I purchased a portable dvd player for my child so we could have a nice distraction for traveling. The Divx capability and sale price were the selling points.
I've used other portable DVD players and on every one the built in speakers are never loud enough. And since the screen is so small I don't get too wrapped around quality. The Toshiba has a great battery life, it runs quiet and it comes with a 12v car adapter. People actually complain that it does not come with headphones, seriously? People, please invest in some nice headphones youll be much happier. If the Toshiba was not on sale I would have gotten the audiovox, or a cheaper player that was divx certified. The audiovox is a great player and is very durable. Gotta love the Divx 4 +hour dvds though.

Plays everything 2007-04-10
Great product. Sounds and looks great. Plays divx no problem on any dvds i've tried which is quite a few. Won't play them off of cdrs though.

I just doesn't last very long with regular use. 2008-03-30
I purchased this item at the beginning of November 2006 and it is not working any more. First the remote went on the blink after about a year and now the dvd player itself has died.

So, I please note that with regular use it lasts about a year and a half. Something to think about for the price of USD 160.00

Great DVD Player-- Takes a Licking, Keeps on... 2007-11-12
I searched and searched- and read every review before purchasing a portable DVD player for my kids to use on long trips.

I finally decided on this Toshiba, and we have not been disappointed. It is a sturdy, tough little machine, and the picture quality is great.

After a year's worth of use, I am happy to say it still works great, despite two toddlers' abuse and many trips.

I have 3 year-old boy and a 1 year-old girl who now use the machine almost daily. They would rather watch a movie on it than on our regular TV/DVD player.

My one year-old is especially "rough" with it-- dragging it around, dropping it, touching the laser mechanism, opening and shutting it, etc.... and it is handling it with no problems.

So, I highly recommend it-- the 4-hour battery is great, too. I feel like it is a solid machine.

Excellent for the price 2007-10-10
So far we're really pleased with this player, and it's handled everything we've thrown at it.
5 things could be better:

1. If the screen would fully fold back;
2. If there were a volume control on the remote;
3. If it could be hacked to be region-free;
4. If the battery would charge when the player were in use (needs to be switched off to charge);
5. If the remote sensor were in a more accessible place (when you put the unit in a holder to strap to the back of a car seat, the sensor is covered so the remote doesn't work.)

None of these issues are deal-breakers - I highly recommend this unit at twice the price! (we paid $95 refurb)

Outstanding service 2007-10-02
Item was marked down more than 50% and couldn't find a scratch or blemish on it. Worked flawlessly. Fast delivery.

I purchased this item for its unique feature of providing ports for reading memory cards. Wanted to make a present to an elderly person who did not have a computer and wanted to look at JPGs from memory cards or CDs. Functionaly, this feature worked very well, but the JPGs displayed very poorly on the screen. I will have to go to a dedicated JPG display device, more expensive than this DVD player. And being able to play DVDs would have been nice for this elderly person.

Return was very simple and refund immediate.

Great product for the money, great service. Just didn't fit what I was looking for.

Toshiba not at all versitile 2007-09-22
We bought the Toshiba 1850 portable dvd player to play videos for my daughter. Many of the videos are a collection of Barney videos we own that I converted. This DVD player would not play any of them. We recorded them on a different disk and a different format and it still would not play our disks. (I sent back this product and went to get another one) I went to a nearby electronics store to purchase another one and took the DVDs I wanted to play with me to be certain they would work. Guess what? Every portable DVD player there played my home movies, the collections AND some of them even played the DivX even though they didn't advertise it. I tried the Toshiba 1900 portable DVD player and had the same exact results as I did with the 1850. I would not recommend this at all if you intend on playing home movies or movies you have converted from VHS.
