Editorial Review
The ultra-versatile PIXMA MP830 Office All-In-One delivers spectacular performance for the home and small office. It produces an amazing print resolution of up to 9600 x 2400 color dpi, for superb detail and clarity. To achieve this, Canon Full-photolithography Inkjet Nozzle Engineering (FINE) uses a next-generation 3, 584-nozzle print head that ejects precise, consistent droplets as small as 1 picoliter, for smooth, virtually grain-free images. The ContrastPLUS 5-color ink system-four dye based inks and a pigment-based black-ink-produces true-life photos along with laser-quality text. Plus, a 4" x 6" photo lab quality borderless print takes only about 36 seconds. With the large 2.5" LCD color viewer and easy control panel, you can evaluate and enhance images from your compatible memory card before printing! Or, you can print directly from your PictBridge ready digital camera or DV camcorder. With direct printing, you don't need a computer. This high-end office All-In-One does it all. The auto duplex Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) can read both sides of a 2 sided document, letting you copy or scan a 2-sided original without having to flip it over by hand! The ADF can hold 35 pages of originals at one time, making it much easier to copy, scan or fax multi-page documents. And when combined with the unit's dual paper trays, the ADF gives you the capability for high-capacity copying, even of 2 sided originals. The AE (Auto Exposure) Copy feature automatically optimizes reproduction quality based on the type of original you're duplicating. When scanning, the unit's high-resolution CCD technology enables you to produce exceptional 2400-dpi scans, with vibrant 48-bit color depth. And now, faxing: with the PIXMA MP830 Office All-In-One, you can achieve up to Super G3 fax speed in color and B&W. Plus, the expanded memory lets you store 100 speed dial codes, and receive up to 250 incoming pages.

Great Printer......uses a lot of ink 2008-08-15
Great printer but it uses a lot of ink. Very capable at scanning, printing, copying, and faxing. Very happy with this printer.-

Don't buy this piece of crap 2008-08-09
I've owned this less than a year and I got a 6A00 error code. Contacted Canon support and followed their instructions. Error did not clear. Now Canon wants to send me a factory refurbished unit that I have to remove parts from my original unit and install in the refurbished unit. This is total BS. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!!!!!

Thanks Canon for a Good Workhorse 2008-08-08
I am very pleased to be able to give a positive review to an electronic item. So many of them turn out no good regardless of price. Speaking of which this is not the least expensive multi-function printer you can buy, but it is about the best I've found and used.

This is my second MP830 and when I had to buy a replacement I looked at many, read the reviews, and decided to stick with old faithful.

The copy, scan and fax functions on this machine work better than the other three types I have used. No complaint on these functions.

One criticism is that this printer uses a great deal of ink very quickly. Boy that is an understatement. This thing sucks the cartridge dry at a faster rate than a shipwrecked sailor on a desert island sucks rum. The question is what kind of printing do you want. If you only, or mainly, print only black and white, and you don't need any one of the other functions, I must tell you don't buy this. You will be sorry. However, if you want a printer that offers you different qualities of printing, if you want photo printing better than I've had from many great labs, and if you use fax, copy, or scan functions, buy this machine and enjoy your work.

Am I glad Canon still makes this thing.

Avoid this glorified printer! 2008-08-05
When I first began using my all in one, I loved it (except for the fact I had to be careful how much ink I was using!). I even got a new computer to go along with it after a few months, and that is where the trouble began. My new HP and the Canon function ONLY as a printer. The other features do NOT work. Canon blames HP, saying it is a twain issue and something on the HP is preventing it from scanning. HP blames Canon software. After dozens of hours with tech support on both sides, neither will accept responsibility for the problems. I cannot get a refund on either product, and here I sit with a glorified printer that uses enormous amounts of ink. AVOID THIS PRODUCT!!!

One great printer! 2008-08-04
I have never written a review before, but I can tell you that this is one great printer. It is simple to set-up and quite easy to use. It has all the features I need and the output is significantly better that the Lexmark and HP printers I had previously. My old HP printer did a good job of printing but the paper never went in strait. I would recommend this printer to anyone looking for a good all in one printer.

Gotta love Canon 2008-07-23
I've owned this unit for over a year now and it's still just as great as the day it was delivered to my door.

I own it, I love it, I couldn't live without my canon printer. (it's the second canon that I've owned in 10 years.)

Decent printer while it worked 2008-07-20
Bought this to replace an HP multifuncion printer which finally jammed up from spewing too much ink, plus I was tired of the bloated HP software that comes with all their printers.
The Canon software was much more compact, and the print quality was excellent. The print registration was not great (the square alignment of the print on the page), but I have not seen an inkjet printer yet that consistently aligns the print. I believe this is due to the extremely cheap plastic construction of all these units. Anyway, by juggling the paper feeds I could usually get reasonable results.
Faxing, scanning and copying worked fine.
The printer has been very lightly used, probably less than 2000 pages (4 reams) in 18 months. It uses lots of ink as others have noted. 99.9% of the pages are printed simplex (one sideed) in grayscale, which I have set the printer to by default. I have probably only printed 5-6 photos on it, and copied a few color pages, always in fast quality to save ink. Yet it goes through ink (including colors) like crazy. Also of note, if it thinks even one ink cartridge is out of ink the printer is completely disabled! No copy, no fax, no scan, no B+W print, even if it thinks a color cartridge is the problem. What genius designed this software? I guess the ones who want you to keep buying ink.
All this I could live with, and was very happy with the printer. However, today, 18 months after purchase, the printer dies with error code A600. A Google search indicated this may be due to paper or ink jam. I checked thoroughly, no problems found. So 18 months after purchase, and lots of ink, the thing is dead. To me this is incredibly poor quality. It's unlikely I will be buying another Canon printer.

Good All In One, but.... 2008-07-10
as other reviewers said this is a nice machine but its ink sucking habit is out of control!

I bought this item about a year ago and am not happy to be spending a small fortune on ink. Plus, the 5 different ink cartridges run out at different times so this machine requires constant "feeding" to maintain operations.

For the above cited reason, I am looking forward to a new and easy maintenance machine.

Great until the error codes started showing up! 2008-06-21
I have owned my Canon Pixma MP830 for two years now. Worked AMAZING! Until the error codes showed up, first there was 6A00 which in NOT in the book under problem solving error codes. Then error code 5100 started showing up. I called tech support who were great, except could not help me. They said the problem is in the circuit board and I could either buy a new one at their discount (they gave me a code that is good for two weeks) or pay to get it fixed and I would have to pay for the estimate to see what that would cost. SO my dilemma .... buy it again... or get something else. Lemon or Cherry... roll of the dice. But buying a new one every two years is not what I want to do!
