Customer Reviews
Essex lied - products are refurbished
2008-05-12
Beware - Essex lists products as "new" even though they are refurbished. I bought a gift from them which came with a big tear across the packaging that was stitched up with some scotch tape. I was very disappointed that they misled customers like that.
I-talk is awesome

This little device is the easiest recording device I own. Although the results are a little compromised due to the small space between microphones and the smallness of the whole device it still picks up all of the details in clear sound. It also has automatic adjustment for the level of input as well as pause and (my favorite) delete options from your I-pod.
Excellent for recording voice lessons

I use this product to record voice lessons. Though I would not necessarily recommend you make CDs to send for jobs, auditions, competitions with this product, it certainly does a decent jobs. (It can be used for those things in a pinch, just make sure you know the room well enough to know where to place it.) It does tend to run the battery down on my iPod when I use it, so don't expect to use it for more than an hour and a half or so.
Excellent product. Great quality, clear sound, totally worth the price.

It was in great condition and I got it really soon after i ordered it. It works really well!
High compatibility, low quality
2008-04-24
The iTalk Pro works seamlessly with my 5th generation ipod. It doesn't use a lot of power. It records in WAV format so the file size is about 450mb for an hour of recording. Its easy to transfer recordings to iTunes. The only downside is that there is no recording level adjustment so it peaks out when you try to record music. It works great for just voice recordings.
Good Stuff

Works for what I need.

It records and was easy to use. I would prefer a more secure attachment though.
A Nice Gadget...

Griffin's iTalk Pro is a great little device for picking up conversations with my grandkids and adding them to my iPod as high quality recordings that I can share with others.
Awesome little device

Ok, i'll admit that this isn't perfect. The audio is a bit hissy but for what I was using it for, it's perfect. I was using it to record my class sessions and test previews. It worked brilliantly and it's made school a breeze. No more scrambling to write down notes at breakneck speed. Just take the notes you can and rely on a recorded backup copy. I will say that it definitely pays to sit close to a quiet instructor. But pays back huge dividends in the end. One thing I will say is that it mows through battery time like crazy so make sure to bring a wall plug if you have a place to plug in close by. If you've got a kid or are a student who is an auditory learner or just wants a backup of any lecture, this is HIGHLY recommended. Don't buy this for the sonic clarity, you may be disappointed. But it does what I needed for sure.
Unreliable

The product itself (when it works) records very well. I have no complaints about the stereo quality it records. It also doesn't pick up every hiss or back round noise in the room. It's better then any handheld all in one solution digital recorder, which only records in 8 bit mono sound. However all this means nothing if your not sure it's even recording what you're intending to. Out of 10 lectures only 5 where good, the other five were dead air (didn't record anything). Still created an hr long file and was the same size that did record but nothing. I don't know why it's doing this, I turn my IPOD on plug in the I-talk pro, my voice menu comes up, and I hit record. The red circle light comes on, and my IPOD displays recording. But like I said above sometimes it doesn't record anything. Creates a soundless file. I am in the process of trouble shooting the device to see if I can see an issue when it doesn't record anything. It's hard to tell when there is no way to check until after it stops. I would rank this much higher if it weren't for this issue.
