Supposed to last 12 months, only lasted 2.
2008-08-19
My girlfriend and I live together. We probably drink about as much water as the average couple, maybe less because we work a lot. Yet somehow the brita filter only lasted 1/6 the advertised length of time.
The brita disposable faucet filtration system is advertised as lasting 12 months, sadly it only lasted 2. This is a big dissapointment as I would have stayed with the PUR system (also not perfect) otherwise.
If 2 months is sufficient for you, go ahead and buy this. Otherwise, use a filter with replacement cartridges.
Good but not for a year

We like this much better than the PUR faucet filter. But it does not last for a year. We got about 6 months before the light turned red. But it was OK since we bought them on eBay for a nice discount. It has fine print that says it will filter 300 gallons so we must use a lot of water.
But this it is a nice product. It can get in the way depending on your sink and faucet combo.
Get this discontinued product before they are all gone

I've used this product for 2 years and am now ordering my third Filter. Each unit lasted a full year for me. I've tried many similar products and this one is easy to install and the unfiltered output is a normal force. The filtered water does take awhile to fill up a pan but, when I had a RO system it's all ready filtered water also had a small sized faucet for output.
I'm extremely disappointed that this product has been discontinued. The newest Brita is gimmicky and I don't want to pay for the gimmick (it shows you the particles taken out of the water).
Great for the Price!

This product is quite wonderful actually. I was surprised, as it was rather inexpensive compared to other filtration systems. It took me only about 3 minutes to get it on, and after I let it run, the water tasted so good! I have high clorinated water with an awful smell, and I tasted none of that! It truly was almost as good as spring water... actually it gave a taste similar to purified water without the mineral aftertaste. I didn't find it bulk but my faucet is rather high and it doesn't take up much room.
My only gripe is that the water does indeed come out somewhat slowly so it takes a while to fill up a pitcher or water bottle, but totally worth the extra seconds I have to spend doing it.

This filter pays for itself.. I will be buying another one.. As I have this one for over a year.. And to not spend 24 dollars every so many months for a replacement filter is fantastic... This is easy to install & last a long time with out having to shell out money..

I started using the Brita Disposable Faucet Filtration System on 17 October 2007... and today (16 May 2008) the light just turned red. That's seven months, which equates to about 210 gallons of filtered water, which BTW, I actually measured. I was hoping this filter would last a year, but can't complain about 7 months since I paid under $25. If they could have maintained that cost, I would have considered buying another... but several weeks ago I was checking on prices and discovered this specific filter had skyrocketed to almost $70... along with rumors that it had been discontinued. I was forced to find a cheaper alternative... which I'm not revealing out of fear that product's price will also skyrocket. Good luck in your search for safe clean water.
another great product discontinued

We got this model after trying, and liking, the disposable bathroom model. I liked this filter more than any other faucet mount we've tried, and sadly now it is discontinued! According to Brita's website, this is the only faucet-mount they offer(ed) that removes mercury, along with a respectable list of other contaminants. The water tastes good, the unit is easy to use, it has a good flow rate, and what I like best is that unlike other models there is no hard-to-clean permanent housing that gets grungy and disgusting over time. Changing the filter means changing the whole self-contained unit, which is about the size of a replacement filter altogether. This was a very well-designed product that somehow failed. Due to the love-it-or-hate-it reviews I am seeing for this and the lavatory model, I wonder if one bad batch got out there and ruined its reputation. I also wonder if all the people who had installation problems also had trouble with other similar products. In any case, it's a shame that this model is no longer manufactured. I suppose that is why the price is so high on Amazon right now. I believe I got mine for less than 25.00.
This unit lasted six months with two people using it for drinking water and filling a pet fountain and the coffeemaker, along with some cooking. That made it a good value, for me.
Will try to find one to get us through another six months, then maybe invest in an undermount system.

this did NOT fit on my fairly standard-looking faucet. what a waste!
stick with the brita pitchers unless you're sure it will fit.
