Editorial Review
Though they were only together for two brief years (1966-1968) the London-based power trio Cream changed the face of rock with their jazz-schooled psychedelic blues--and never more so than on their 1967 classic DISRAELI GEARS. This program offers a critical review of the landmark album through archival footage rare live performance clips and interviews with rock critics musicologists and band members.System Requirements:Running Time 96 Mins.Format: DVD AUDIO Genre: MUSIC DVD/CONCERTS Rating: NR UPC: 801213016099 Manufacturer No: EV30160-9

Those were the days... 2008-05-30
This is a fine look at the making of a classic album with the participation of all the living principals. It should satisfy the curiousity of all interested parties.
Players will find the bonus material to be highly instructive. Never wonder how to play those licks properly again!

Why Clapton is God & Cream ruled 2007-07-16
The Disraeli Gears lp or Buffalo Springfield Again ? I chose Gears, loved Sunshine and the flourescent cover
fit the zeitgeist(was a time a great cover broadcast it's content as the same). Beyond the folky Mother's Lament
it was wonderful to hear three masters explore rock. Too bad producer Felix Pappalardi is gone now.

The details recalled are deliciously presented; loved the flashes of female breasts and vintage pix/film(VH1 edits all, so PC). Have Hendrix's Electric Ladyland this series too, can't say enough for the research and presentation.

I listened with renewed interest to Dance the Night Away and Tales of Brave Ulysses, even dug out Pete Brown's
Battered Ornaments. Watching Eric replay specific classics was a true joy.

Just interviews and almost no performances 2007-07-10
I just want to warn anyone who thinks that this DVD contains footage of Cream performing their songs that they perform just one song, "Tales Of Brave Ulysses" -- and you won't find it by watching the movie. You have to click on "Bonus Selections" to find it.

Otherwise, the movie is just interviews with band members and others reminiscing about the songs on the album.

An absolute must-have 2007-07-05
I can't add to the superlatives which have been justly heaped upon this DVD. I only wish they'd covered Ginger Baker's composition "Blue Condition."

Great look behind the scenes 2007-07-03

A "me too" for a fantastic disc 2007-01-31
I am not adding much to what's already been written. I've listened to this album countless times in the past 40 years and always marvel at its brilliance. After all this time I finally learned how the LP got its title, what "Take it back" was about, and the real meaning of SWLABR...
I paid $11.99 in early 2007 and it was a phenomenal bargain.
One odd thing: they do mention Fresh Cream in the course of discussing Cream's history, but what is Wheels of Fire not even mentioned? Some of my favorite Cream songs of all time are on the studio disk. Maybe someday there will be another DVD focusing on that LP.

Buy it for the extras 2007-01-18
Like the Classic Artist DVD on Cream, the extras (special features) of this disc are the most priceless. Highlights of these are the one-on-one close up footages of Clapton playing Sunshine and Outside Woman Blues on solo guitar, Jack playing We're Going Wrong on solo piano, and Ginger giving a drum lesson on exactly how to play Sunshine the right way. The main body of the special is very good also, but the extras you'll watch over and over. There's also great concert footage of the group playing We're Going Wrong in which Clapton looks more intense (almost angry) than I've ever seen anywhere. Highly recommended.

Behind the Gears 2006-11-11
As a musician and a fan from the get-go, this DVD is priceless. The artists and others in their own words explain how it was done. A gold mine of info about a truly groundbreaking album and band.

A MUST SEE for every young rock musician & every serious rock music fan 2006-08-31
This DVD is very, VERY captivating and you will find yourself watching it over and over and over. It tends to have that effect on people. Also, it presents an interesting history of CREAM. These guys were fated to play together, and were on top of their game when they WERE together. CREAM's early disbandment was a pity, and their recent reunion 37 years later is one of the happiest events of my life.

As a drummer myself, no one has ever inspired me quite the way that Ginger Baker does with his uniquely creative style, and CREAM is my favorite group in rock history. These recently made DVD's [this one and the 2005 Reunion] leave me weeping when I realize how nearly the opportunity to produce them might have been missed. Jack Bruce was close to death in 2003 from liver cancer. The recent live footage of all three CREAM members is, to me, a treasure.

This DVD incorporates both vintage footage and recent interviews, using those to weave a fascincating history of the Disraeli Gears album. Here we learn that Felix Papalardi [a brilliant musician who had played bass with Mountain] was very instrumental in the production of this album. We learn the history of the songs and the album cover.

Sadly, we also learn that the brass at Atlantic records apparently viewed CREAM as a group starring Eric Clapton as front man with a rhythm section behind him. In truth, the members of CREAM cannot be separated in this way, and I cannot help but suspect that this concept went far to create unnecessary tension that helped lead [among many other factors] to CREAM's premature demise in 1969. Just a theory, of course. For in CREAM, there truly was no front man. CREAM was three musicians from a blues & jazz background who fed off of each other musically, making music somewhat of a conversation between three individuals. It is a style that I love to hear, and also to experience as a musician myself.

Long live CREAM!!!
