if you ever buy an apple computer, make sure you buy apple care. They are good machines, but something always goes wrong. My battery gave out after one year - completely useless, and expensive to replace

Very Good Quality and I love the mac. Much better than a PC. Great item and service.
defective keyboard common!

WHite MacBook $1099. Bought last week after iBook died a sudden death. From beginning, the keyboard didn't register anything. After 15 or 20 minutes it worked fine. Once i stopped using computer and started again, keyboard didn't work. Keys went down but got no movement. Kept thinking problem would go away. 2 days later, called Indonesia or wherever Mac hires it low-wage workers, and they wanted to reprogram my settings, which I refused to do. (TIP: Don't bother, it's useless to do any resetting!) Instead they gave me appt. at a nearby Apple Store that night. The Genius at the Genius Bar admitted (sotto voce) that MANY MANY MANY of these MacBooks have this problem and APple has NO idea how to fix. ALl they know is that getting a new keyboard does not work, nor does resetting the settings. She warned that when she gave me a new one, which she did, it might have the same problem. It did not have the same problem until last night. Now it does. I have no idea what to do. She also said the next higher price MacBook, the black one, ALSO has the same problem. DOn't know if the more expensive silver one does too. THis really sucks, and esp. because Mac has no idea how to fix it. What are they coming to?
After taxes and Apple Care, I spent $1500 for a defective computer and it seems like the next one will be defective if I go to the trouble of replacing this one.
Battery For This Product Is Junk
2007-12-06
Start with the positive: all that garbage you hate about Windows machines is gone. The Mac starts up fast and runs relatively flawlessly while in use - no crashing, etc.
But, what's the point of owning a laptop with a dead battery? I've owned this computer for just over 12 months and the battery is dead, kaput, sleeps with the fishes. Tethered to the wall with a power cord, it's now just a glorified desktop computer. This rapid battery failure is not unusual, either; go to the Apple store website and check the reviews for the battery that powers the Macbook. This battery is junk.
So, the bottom line appears to be this: budget $130 every year to buy a new battery.
Frankly, I'm inclined to slink back to a Windows machine with my next purchase. I shouldn't have to pay $130 every year to "renew" my Apple laptop privileges.
Damaged refurbished product

I got my laptop only to find out that the keyboard didn't work and I had to take it in to apple and get it repaired when I needed it for work. Not cool selling products that are still damaged as repaired.

Apple MacBook - The Apple MacBook features the latest in mobile computing technology. At it's heart is an Intel Core Duo processor. A processor with 2 separate cores. In English, that means it's like having 2 processors in one. The MacBook also features a glossy 13.3" widescreen display. It's 79% brighter and has 30% more viewing space than the previous iBook model! You also get a suite of Apple created software titles like Front Row for navigating your computer via the included Apple Remote, and iLife '06, which handles...well, your life. Everything from music, photos, video, calendars, blogs, podcasts, and more. These are some amazing features, but the MacBook has a lot more to offer.... 60GB 5400RPM SATA HDD SuperDrive Double Layer DVD Writer Write Speeds - up to 2x DL DVD+R, 4x DVD-R, 4x DVD+R, 4x DVD-RW, 4x DVD+RW, 24x CD-R & 10x CD-RW Read Speeds - up to 8x DVD-ROM & 24x CD-ROM Intel GMA 950 Graphics Processor with 64MB of shared memory (memory is taken from the main system's RAM) Built-in iSight Camera 13.3 Glossy Widescreen Display 1280x800 Native Resolution Ports - 10/100/1000 Ethernet, 1 FireWire 400, 2 USB 2.0, Mini-DVI (support for DVI, VGA, S-Video & Composite Video Out via optional adapters), Combined Optical Digital Audio Input/Audio Line Input, Combined Optical Digital Audio Output/Headphone Out Built-in Stereo Speakers Built-in 54Mbps AirPort Extreme Wi-Fi (802.11g) Support Built-in Bluetooth 2.0+EDR (Enhanced Data Rate) Module Color - White Unit Dimensions - 1.08 (h) x 12.78 (w) x 8.92 (d) Unit Weight - 5.2 lbs.
Apple Does It Again

From the (practically speaking) bullet-proof Mac OS X, to the fit and finish, this laptop has not disappointed.
Excellent

This was my first Mac. I switched to Apple from PC and nver looked back. This was the best (if you compare amongst similar capabilities) computer that I ever had. Faster to start, never froze, no viriouses, never crashed. Once you get used to the differnt apple system, it is actually very fun to work with. The cherry on top is the design.
Buy it.
great pc get quality refurb from apple

I think to avoid the issues with faulty units through used models just get a refurbished one directly form apple.
Get a Core 2 Duo
2007-01-19
Get the newer Core 2 Duo revision from late 2006, even if you can't find as good a deal on it. This model runs too hot for lap use. Also, these 1st generation machines had variable build quality. I've worked with 4 of them and 2 were 100% solid and 2 are super flaky despite repeated fixes by Apple.
