Customer Reviews
Looks good, sounds marginal.

About a couple months ago I bought this speaker(s). it is easy to connect and having power from a USB port makes it very convenient. The problem is that the sound quality is poor which is the main reason you buy speakers for.
Me gustó por lo práctico de manejar
2008-05-07
picked these up for a trip to india...

and couldn't be happier with them. the sound quality is great. they do not suck up battery life. they are loud enough to have fun with. overall, great purchase.
one thing. be careful to put the cord back into the little slot thing or it gets caught and could get messed up..
Great for audio (not music)
2008-05-03
This little speaker is inexpensive, runs on AA batteries exclusively, and has enough volume to allow you to listen to an audiobook without earbuds. But it is not for music.
excellent value for the price

If you need a portable MP3 speaker device for those times when earphones aren't practical, then you can't beat the value afforded by the Audio Source DB5 system. Packaging is impressive, connections easy, and while it doesn't provide Bose quality sound, it is more than adequate for the price they ask. I like having all of my music available to me and am using it today while I'm getting some painting done in our hallway. If you need inexpensive speaker access to your MP3 playlists, you can't go wrong with this purchase.
Great speaker, but dead after 6 months
2008-07-26
I like these speakers, very portable. I carry it around with me easily when I travel. The volume can be turn up to very loud. I never have to turn it all the way up. I got these because my laptop speakers are not loud enough. I mainly use it to watch Movie or TV show online. And they serve the purpose. However, after 6 months, they're dead now. Because the wire that comes out of the speaker to plug into your computer is flimsy. The connection has been loose for a couple months, but I was able to manuever it to get it to work, but now it doesn't work at all anymore. So if you think it's worth the money to buy this and use it for 6 months. Then I would recommend it.
Good sound, poor construction, no rechargables
2008-07-04
The speakers are perfect in sound quality. I'm no audio geek requiring a huge stereo system. It's nice to plug into the laptop (and it can power itself by USB) and watch some episodes with or bring to the beach to have some music.
However, it's very easy to accidentally close it on the cord and cause damage.
The battery case is very difficult to close and almost impossible to open once you have it closed.
It will not run on my rechargable batteries. This sucks! All my other electronics work fine with rechargables.
got what I paid for....but they're dead now.

I bought these a year ago, to take to the park with me. They sound alright, and the volume is ok. But despite being very careful with them, especially about putting the cord away properly, they're now basically dead. They cut in and out, and the problem is at the base of the cord.
Other thoughts:
-no battery indicator - plus, the 'on' light requires so little power that the light comes on even when there isn't enough power to run the speakers. I advise always carrying a spare set of batteries with you.
-you always need to turn the volume up each time you use them, as they start at the lowest volume
I suppose I got what I paid for. But I just hoped that they would last longer, especially considering that I take good care of my things.
terrible service amazon
2008-06-13
The product is excellent but I didn't buy it from Amazon due to a total lack of communication. Amazon informed me it was out of stock after the order was placed so I bought it elsewhere within 24 hours. A couple of days later the Amazon "partner" sent me one too. After days of useless attempts to communicate with Amazon I contacted the partner and they were poles apart from Amazon, helpful easy to communicate apologetic for any confusion not of their making and even sent me a return label so I didn't have to pay for the return. They are now on my number one list and I am wary of Amazon as a result (after dealing with Amazon for many years)
Distortion
2008-05-09
Every time you turn the speaker son you'll have to adjust the volume, because it always starts so low you can't hear anything.
On the other hand, if you turn it up too high there's distortion that messes up the bass.
The 3D button doesn't really make a noticeable difference, but the fact you can take it with you everywhere is nice.
Over all I wouldn't buy them again.
