Buy screws...
2008-04-19
These things are terrible. I had one go in easily and work fine, but the other 3 I've tried I still can't get to work. The big problem is these hooks need about a 6" diameter circle behind the wall from wherever you screw them, as they need to twist. They also, of course, don't go through studs.
Now I have 3 holes in my wall, one of them MUCH larger than a screw hole, and still no hook. I also have several cuts on my hand from trying to push these damn things in. Think of bending sharp clothes hangers, which is exactly all these are.
With screws I would have been done in 2 minutes, now I've spent about 20 and have one hook in. Throwing the rest out, going to buy some $0.50 screws instead. Horrible product in every way, expect under rare conditions where they are in the perfect spot to work (which is rarely ever centered).
Know your walls

If you are going to buy this product make sure that your walls are really thin. Never in the commercial do they tell you that if you have medium-strong walls (even if they sound like they are hollow), the hook wont go in. This buy can be a total loss of money.
useful in owens corning basement system
2008-01-13
I have an Owens Corning basement system, and there are no drywall or studs. To hang shelving, the panels have to be removed and wood studs installed, which the company says costs $125. I bought these Hercules Hooks for $15 and put up the shelves and my stereo speakers and after a month they are still holding up well. I have placed some satellite speakers on the shelving, and I'd estimate the weight at 10-12 lbs. The main speakers are probably in the same range, weight-wise. I'm very happy with the results.
Must Have

The hooks are great. They really do hold even heavy pictures and make very small holes, which is great since I like to change things around a lot. And they are easy enough for me to use with out my husband.
Works Some of the Time

I bought these hooks for my new home, to hang pictures and such. The first time I tried these, I could not get the hook to go into the drywall. I am thinking that there was a stud where I was trying to place hook. They are very hard to insert. These are not as easy as the infomercial says.
They simply work!

Won't Penetrate Plaster Walls

Never got an opportunity to really try out the product since I couldn't get the hooks into the plaster walls. Very disappointing.
Highly recommend them!

Unfortunately, I hung several pictures in my new house before ordering Hercules Hooks and have anchors, screws, nail holes and even some cracked plaster to show for it. Hercules Hooks are so much quicker and easier, and they make a neat little hole. They also really do slip out of the wall if you decide to move the picture elsewhere. Hercules Hooks live up to their advertising claim, though I have not tested any 150 lb loads yet. Hint: Have a nail handy for when a stud is hit; the hook will not insert at a stud but you don't need anything more than a nail there.

How Disappointing
2007-06-25
1. The holes in the wall WERE NOT SMALL.
2. I couldn't get them to turn and fit in the wall properly.
3. They held nothing, as I spent 20 minutes screwing them into the wall only to have them not fit and turn.
I then went and bought nails for 2 bucks and had my art hung in 30 seconds.
What a waste of 20 bucks.
Great Little Gimmic!

Works great. 1st time I bought something from a TV Infomercial, that actually WORKS! I wonder what the physics of it look like! ?
