Awesome Computer! 2006-11-05
Many of my law school classmates are having problems with their laptops and/or wireless connectivity in our classrooms. Not so with this top-of-the-line computer. This computer signifies a new age of computers. It is a one-of-a-kind. Even among the technologically savvy, this computer is something to envy if you don't have one yet. While I have been offered a replacement battery because of the problems with batteries that have affected many computer brands, I have not personally experienced any problems with my battery, which I put through the test just yesterday going four hours on battery at the library...sometimes in lower power settings. I love the pen & its different settings. In fact, I just had a local celebrity autograph my computer using the pen two days ago...he was very impressed and said "this is a first!" Getting used to the smaller screen did take some getting used to, but since I take this computer with me everywhere I go, the lighter weight is well worth it!

Very good machine! 2006-10-22
I have this laptop for almost 5 months.

I have only two complains:

1. The DVD Burner stop working well after I burned more than 300 cd's to have them on mp3 (okay, I have a big collection)
2. After having a Toshiba Tecra Centrino 1.7M, I found this laptop to start slow. I don't know if this is an issue of Windows Xp Tablet Edition.

After these two issued, excellent machine. Hard Disk encrypted (for me it is important, because I'm a consultant and I'm on the road must of the time). Big Hard Disk, Tablet works excellent, small Laptop, but with all necessary stuff.

I recommend this laptop any day of the week.

Pedro.

I'm extremly pleased with this Tablet PC. 2006-08-18
Okay, so if you are like me you want to hear from other buyers and see about the reviews for the products I plan on purchasing.

So when I decided about finally getting this Tablet PC, I looked up this product and couldn't find any reviews at all. So today, I decided to check up on this at Amazon. I read the previous review and I have to admit that if I would have read waht he wrote in his review, I wouldn't have purchased this Tablet PC.

However, I didn't read it and I did purchase the Tablet PC. I have to tell you guys that I'm very pleased with the Toshiba Tablet PC. I like all the Toshiba software and I also love how the Stylus slips into the side of the unit. And there is even a back up stylus in a hidden compartment on the bottom of the unit incase you ever loose the stylus. (I left it at home a few times and had to use the back up). I have only one complaint about the unit however, so get ready. The unit is pretty battery intensive. So I purchased a back up.

It has 1 gig of memory and a dual processor. I've been using it moderatly heavy on a daily basis at home and only occasionally at work. It really impressed the people I sat with at a Project management seminar. One guy was typing on his laptop, another guy had this collapsable keyboard hooked up to a PalmPilot? It wasnt' working to well on his lap. It kept folding up on him as he was typing stuff. I was using the Tablet PC as a notebook and handwriting the notes. When I got home it converted the handwriting to text. Pretty slick.

I too have had an issue with the power supply chord. And I too contacted Toshiba Service hotline. I had a completely different experience the the previous poster who mentioned something about being lied to. They took my service request over the phone, located a local service rep and had a workorder already set up when I got to the local rep. I just supplied the service order number and two days later I got my new Power Supply AC Adapter. I just went and picked it up. I even took a service quality survey and gave them all good reviews.

Now maybe it's just me, but I'm sure some of you out there will know exactly what I'm talking about. When I'm dealing with a Tablet PC or anything that small and that expensive, I have a natural tendancy to be gentle with these items. My Ipod, my PSP, my Tablet PC, my car, my Cell phone... you get the idea. I just don't see it neccessary to be rough with my items. I can just imagine the previous person who reviewed this item slaming the lid closed, or puching the keyboard hard, or using the stylus with a deathgrip and pressing down HARD, or hitting the monitor with a club... Well that last one was an exageration, but you get the idea.

I'm not saying that it isn't possible to break these parts with normal usage, but it hasn't happened to me. I've been using my Tablet PC for about 5 months now and other then the AC Adapter issue, I havn't experienced anything that would make me give this item a negative review and tell people to avoid.

In my experience, it has been a great piece of hardware and the only time I experienced any trouble, I was well taken care of. In closing, I'm extremly pleased with this Tablet PC.

Poor quality manufacture, parts are breaking 2006-08-17
While the underlying principle of having a tablet PC is a nice idea, Toshiba quality appears to have taken a nosedive. If you buy this computer, you may risk the problems I have had, such as a latch with small plastic pieces that broke with normal use within a month, and more importantly, an AC adaptor wire whose insulation behind the computer-side plug has worn away after about four months of use, exposing wires into the air. I called support and was first told one story, that they would cover the cost of a new adaptor and shipment. I waited a couple of weeks and called back today, asking where it was. I was told that they had never said they would ship an adaptor and that I had been informed it was not covered by warranty (not what they said the first time). The woman put me on hold to speak with another representative, and then nothing went further than that for a while. I made complaints to the Consumer Protection Commission and the BBB, and then received a call one day from Toshiba. Without offering apology or admitting to anything, they did finally send me a new adaptor and a little USB mouse as a gift. The CPC is in possession of the old power adaptor, as the investigator there wanted to examine it. I offer this as a cautionary example of what you may expect of both manufacturing quality and support quality. In the end, however, they did come through, but it was a months-long struggle to get a safe replacement. Anyway, I'd raise the rating one star, but can't change that on the review now. Although the small 12.1" tablet design is excellent and portable for students, I wouldn't recommend this model. I would have liked to have bought a Mac Tablet if there had been one, and I'm just holding out until Apple finally makes it.

To expensive 2007-05-12
This note is to expensive, and tablet is not a good idea, makes the note slow.

DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!!! 2007-01-25
What ever you do, do not waste your money on this machine. I have gone through 2 in four months. It may seem great but after the first month the processer slows down, it starts freezing at least three to four times a week. The pen is easy to loose and a replacement cost nearly $50. The keys fall out easily and the wireless adapter in it rarly works. If you buy this computer, which you shouldn't, I would buy the three year warenty because this computer will start to have problems. Tosiba will give you a new machine if you buy the warenty. Second, buy another battery. The battery life says up to 5 hours, but in reality it last only 1:45-3:00 based on your power settings. Lastly buy an external hard drive to go with this computer. The 100 GB gets used up quickly with all the free "nessessities", which is another way of saying useless junk.

If you are smart you will purchase a Macintosh Laptop. The new Mac Book Pro runs litterally twice as fast as this box of viruses. It comes standard with twice the memory a better warenty, no virus garrentied and it will NOT freeze.

Be smart pay half the price of this computer and get a mac book (roughly $1,300) or a mac book pro (roughly 1,800). Plus they come with programs standard on them that pcs would only dream of like build in cameras for online chatting or making videos. Iphoto, itunes, idvd, imovie and ichat all come standard on ALL mac computers.

MAC 4 LIFE

Excellent machine 2007-01-15
This is an excellent Tablet PC. It is fairly light 4 pounds 6 ounces and has all that you need in one little device. The screen is excellent quality and the battery management is great.

It provides all the security features that you would need with TPM and fingerprint support. I would strongly recommend this machine if you can afford it.

Short time user. 2007-01-12
Seems like a good machine so far, but a little pricey. Light, fast, bright screen. Tablet is very convenient for many things. There is some difficulty with passwords in tablet mode, but that is probably just me. But just cruising eBay, wow! its cool and fast. My wife complains about the keyboard and has difficulty typing on it vs our Dell laptop. The only real problem is that while both laptops are configured the same, the Toshiba periodically, like once a day, loses wireless connectivity and has to be rebooted to regain it. This never happens with the Dell. I suppose I need to get help with this, possibly update some driver or the wireless router. Overall, we're happy so far.

Great Tablet for the price 2006-11-08
I so much wanted the Lenovo Tablet but after comparing this Toshiba to the Lenovo, this baby won hands down, not only for the price but for the features it included. PLUS amazon is such a great place because it offered me a coupon for a VISTA upgrade which I lucked out from the manufacturer. This tablet is soooo quiet and the parts are not that easy to break. I guess if you are careless with your stuff, it can break easy. I just wish they sell SATA drives so that I can purchase the adaptor for it and have two HDD in this baby. I bought the 2nd optional battery (slice) from toshiba for $149 since they sent me a coupon after I registered the tablet at their site. I love everything about it, but as soon as Apple creates their tablet, this baby has to go =). Enjoy your Toshiba tablet, it is really worth it and Amazon is still the low price leader!
