TRENDnet 2-Port USB KVM Switch Kit
2008-06-12
The Product Works Wonderfully, Though I Would Recommend Getting The Software Off Of The Trendnet WebSite Instead Of The CD For VISTA!!!!
Works... as long as you don't turn off computer
2008-06-10
I bought this product to share a monitor between two computers. It worked perfectly as long as I left both computers on all the time. If I turned off a computer and then turned it back on, I had to unplug the USB cables and then reinsert them into the computer to get the device to recognize the computer that had been off. Needless to say, I unhooked the device and no longer use it.
Three weeks and Died
2008-06-08
Worked for three weeks then died. No real warranty protection (pack it up, spend $18.00 to ship it back to them and then wait 3-5 weeks). I picked up a new IO gear switch for a lower price and found it to be a more reliable and faster switch to boot. Considering the warranty problems I am crossing Trendnet of my list of suppliers.
Works great in "nontraditional" setup, too

You connect whatever you need. In my case, I have a laptop (desktop replacement) and a Q1 umpc (tablet) hooked together. My setup has a USB keyboard, A big monitor, a USB mouse, and the computers' own built-in monitors and input systems (trackpad & stylus) all functioning together. I set the computers' graphics properties to "dual display" (laptop& monitor), so that when I switch machines via the kvm switch, I can use the "off" machine as if it were not connected. Everything seems hot-swappable so far, I've been able to remove and re-plug the mouse, keyboard, monitor at my whim. The single mouse, monitor and keyboard is great for copying files between machines (on an existing home network). One person can multitask on separate machines/apps without moving an inch!
I didn't give 5 stars only because I just started "playing" with this device. Actually, I was introduced to the term KVM switch just minutes before ordering this on Amazon. Also, it is not perfect (for me) because the KVM cables themselves could be a little longer and more flexible.
it works... it WORKSss!!! imagine that!, a KVM that DOES work!

I had previously purchased an elegant IOgear (GCS632U) but the thing only worked sporadically. I have my KVM connected to a pair of Ubuntu computers.
This little Trendnet JUST WORKS!!!!
Note to ubuntu (linux?) users: hit num-lock twice instead of scroll-lock two switch screens (or press the buttons on the switch).
PRO:
1) It works perfectly (stable image, 1-2 sec switching etc...)
2) It's cheap!
CON:
1) They could use a new hardware designer (ugly/clumsy boxes)
2) The cables are a bit short, usable but it could benefit from an added 12-18" of cable.
Excellent value

I have a home business, and needed to run a work PC and a server using one monitor, keyboard and mouse. This switch is excellent value for money. It took less than 5 minutes to set up, requires no external power source and no software, and has proven highly reliable. There is no degradation of video quality or lag in performance whatever.
Both of the PCs attached to my KVM are dual boot Windows/Linux (one Windows XP + Pardus and one Windows Vista + PC Linux OS). Unsurprisingly (given the fact that it is not software driven),the switch operates flawlessly no matter which operating system is being used.
Note: I was able to get this switch as audio is not a problem for me, but if you want your speakers to work on both boxes, you may want to look at a TRENDnet 2-Port PS/2 KVM Switch Kit w/ Audio (Includes 2x KVM Cables).
Re. TRENDNet: TRENDnet makes a lot of decent budget equipment - I use their wireless cards as the Atheros chips they use are generally Linux-friendly. I have never personally had a problem with their products.
Excellent

Connects a Microsoft Natural 4000 keyboard and Logitech MX700 wireless mouse. I can power up either one of the PCs and the devices are automatically connected. Push button switching works great when both PCs are on.
Great product

I would have given this product a 5 star, but I ran into problems when I went to install windows on a computer that already had an operating system. When the computer asked me to press any key to boot from cd the switch wasn't allowing me to type anything. Very frustrating. Beyond that it is a great product. I would recommend it to my friends.
Works Great

Exactly what I was looking for. Works well with a wireless keyboard and mouse too.
Very Good KVM

I have purchased a couple of these for different applications. It is a very good simple KVM for two computers.
