Horrible garbage, a $5 bag of chips is better 2008-08-09
I bought this piece of trash (Lead Tide, Link Depot, whatever it's rebaged at), is a COMPLETE mess. 99% of shareware beats this junk out. As someone mentioned the mini-cd is missing files. I just searched mine suggestions as to what to load and guess what? NOT on the CD. No manual, the built in help is missing pics (nice touch). CD is 2007, but the software/drivers are much more older then that, not to mention there IS NO paper manual. This item is beyond trash to inexcusable insult to those that have tried over and over in frustration to get it to work. I have tried on 2 P4's and 2 AMD 64 systems. ALWAYS an RS-232 device not found (gee, we are already slowly phasing USB so WTH?!?). So I busted out an old P3 w/multi-boots, went into 98se, more problems installing, cant read a 'working SIM card' for squat. This item is the WORST item I ever bought for a computer and I am talking from the TRS-80 era on up). Luckily who I bought it from gave me a refund and said just to keep it, don't bother sending it back. STEER CLEAR OF THIS ITEM!!! Oh by the way, it "ate"/erased/something (actually totalled my SIM) off of one of my cell's SIM card even with the "cannot locate/read or whatever RS-232" device popup in the retarded software. So I carefully removed stick+SIM, put it in my cell and got a "cannot read SIM card" error. Sweet ehh? Besides what surprises me(well really not/reviews) is it seems like 99.9% of the populace cannot get this thing to work, even somewhat! Cheap as in GARBAGE! Btw: mini-cd says V2.0 (get this, labeled on cd are utilities that DO NOT EXSIST on the CD), box says Contents: SIM reader/CD-ROM Driver/Guide Book*/Extensional cable* with *=not included! (hah).

Before I end this review, I have tried it on others computer systems aswell....NO DICE!!! ---PURE TRASH--- ps: on the side of the box it reads System requirements: Windows98/ME/2000/XP & one free USB port. Luckily who I ordered it from gave me a refund, was only like six bucks retail (s&h+tx totaled about $11-12)

DOES NOT WORK_RIP OFF_DO NOT BUY 2008-03-26
Software provided does not work. Can not find any helpful info on web except that lots of other people bought and can not use this item either.
DO NOT BUY

Absolute junk. 2008-03-15
This product absolutely does not work. It has Windows 98 drivers, bad (none) directions. I also happened to have a win98 HP system I just reset to factory defaults with a clean OS. NONE of the apps worked, multiple drivers on the CD, bad english, and constantly rebooting/locked system. Anyone selling this product should think about the integrity of their business. What a joke.

Tried it on 3 different computers.... 2008-03-07
with three different Operating Systems - WinMe, WinXP, and Vista. It would not install properly on any of them. The software would install, but could not find the device. The driver CD reminds me of the days of shovelware, when unscrupulous companies would market disks of multimedia, and included nothing but a bunch of cr@p. This looks like someone bought a bunch of defective merchandise from a cheap importer, and then markets it all around the Web.

Works once you figure it out 2008-03-07
Serial 7891 My reader came with a small cd.. here is what I did...

You need to install the contents of the Usb-SIM9.0 folder that comes on the cd as well as Usb-232\HL0108\ Hugepine setup (Hugepine allows your computer to read the usb card as a serial port. Com 3 worked for me. Happy hunting

waste of time 2008-01-07

Conveniently "Lost" My Order 2007-12-18
I ordered mine back in July anticipating a cell phone change. Mine didn't work either. XP seems to want to view it as a drive and doesn't allow their software to detect it.

Emailed them asking if they had updated downloads:
"Please also send us your order no. so that we can assist you better."

I sent them the order number and date:
"Thank you for your email. However, your order no. does not match our records."

I tried free driver downloads from three competing products and nothing worked. I'm sure if you could stop XP from detecting it as a drive, their poorly written software might work. I tried many different sequences of uninstalling it in Hardware Manager, running the software, rebooting and reinstalling the device with no success.

I believe this device was made for a very specific application/situation and should not have been sold en masse to the public.

poor quality device. 2007-11-13
I purchased two of these. absolute rubbish.

As an enterprise level "uber-geek" I spent two hours fighting with this trying every trick to get it to work. No go. my colleague also spent about an hour on a separate PC. Neither one of us could ever get it to do more than show up in windows as a device.

The install software is not intuitive, and apparently was created using a trial copy of the installer application (with splash screens of "insert your logo here", etc.)

trying to actually USE the software was a joke. Documentation was virtually nonexistent, with almost all images in the HTML help files missing.

I'd give this zero stars if that were possible. what a waste.

Might *possibly* work with Win98 but not XP, Vista 2007-06-28
As far as I've gotten in driver installation on an XP laptop and Vita desktop, the drivers will install only to a Win98 system. Nothing available on the web as an upgraded driver. Forget this one.

1 star only 'cause there is a Zero star selection 2007-05-22
It did not work. Do not waste your money. Wish I could get my money back.
