The Taylor 5571P PrecisionTech Body Fat Analyzer Scale measures body fat and body water with 0.5-percent accuracy. Designed with pink and white accents that show support for fighting breast cancer, this scale is built with four memories to store the whole family's personal data. The scale uses BIA (Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis) to measure body fat and body water percentage. By using relatively simple technology, this scale measures electrical resistance (body cell mass is a good conductor, while fat tissue is a bad conductor) and capacitive resistance (created at the cell membranes of the cell mass). Then, the collected data is used to calculate the BIA.
So what does all this have to do with weight loss? Based on the data collected by this scale, deficiencies such as catabolism (the unwanted breakdown of lean muscle mass) can be documented, which is important to track during weight loss. When you reduce bodyweight, fat tissue should be reduced, not muscle mass. Thus, tracking your BIA is especially important when you diet because it shows "real" weight loss progress, so you're not just dropping pounds, but also burning away unwanted fat.
This scale does more than help you fight your weight loss, it also helps fight breast cancer. Breast cancer touches almost everyone -- family, friends, or co-workers -- and Taylor wants to help fund the fight. With the purchase of this scale, Taylor will donate one dollar to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Increased body fat has been linked in studies to an increased risk of breast cancer. Using the 5571P will help you monitor your overall body health, and, by focusing on body fat, body water, and weight levels, you can keep close tabs on your health and make changes to minimize your risks of breast cancer.
In addition to body fat and body water analysis, this scale also features a scale-only mode for basic weight measurements. It is accurate to 330 pounds, features an instant on, auto zero, auto off, and low battery indicator. All functions are powered by a single nine-volt battery (not included).

don't if accurate

I really don't know if scale is accurate, it weighs the same with and without clothes the same. I step on weight watchers scale and it's says different reading.
Huge disappointment

Two 20 lb dumbbells weigh 42.5 lbs according to this scale...most of the time, but not always, occasionally they weigh 41 or 42 or 40 lbs. As the weight increases so does the discrepancy reaching 4.5 pounds for the weight of 150-200 lbs. Enough said.
Good scale, but fishy electronics?

So far, this scale is fairly good. It gave weights that are pretty close to what other electronic scales gave (and the .5lb increment on this scale is precise enough, for those of you wanting a .2lb increment). My Body Fat measurements were fairly consistent, with it not varying by more than 1% from day to day.
BUT!!! The main suspicion I have with this scale is that it seems to have a "lazy" weight measurement change. What do I mean by that? Let's say, for example, you weight yourself and the scale says 154lbs. If you step off, take off a jacket u know weights about 1.5lbs, and step on the scale again, the scale will show that you still weight 154lbs. BUT! And here is when it gets interesting, I suspected that the scale might have a 'short-term' memory built into its eletronics and will simply go back to the most recently measured weight if the difference in weight is small enough. SO, I weighted myself, at say, 154, then made the scale go to some other weight, say 130, and then take off my jacket and weight myself again, and guess what? I now get 152.5lbs.
So, in summary, a pretty precise and good scale, but for some reason, its designers decided to build in a 'cheat' like that just to give the illusion that it is even more precise.
Distinctly Average

I needed the instruction booklet to operate this simple appliance. The scale is accurate but the bodt-fat analyzer isn't. I would stick to buying just a bathroom scale and get a separate set of 'pincers' for measuring body fat.
Good set of scales

I did quite a bit of research and these scales live up to the reviews I read (almost all of which were positive). They are very repeatable. I will add one negative note however. They are trying to control too many functions with too few buttons. Holding a button for the wrong length of time can cause you to enter the incorrect mode. I am not an unintelligent person, but it took me 4 to 5 tries with the instructions to finally set up the memory features correctly. They have been great since I finally got it done though.
Not Worth Money

This product was easy to set up, and the scale portion works well. However, those are the only positives.
The body fat percentage of the scale does not work. I get different readings each time I step on the scale. One of the reasons why I bought this was because it has an athletic mode, which corrects for the high muscle mass of athletes. Being a collegiate division one athlete, my muscle percentage is higher than that of a normal person. The batteries were also not included, so that added extra expenses.
Overall, it was not worth the money I spent on it. If you are an athlete that want accurate readings, do not buy this scale.
keeps breaking
2008-01-21
I got this scale about a year ago. After a few months it broke. Unless I lost 30 lbs in two days, something was wrong. So I called the company and they said they have a lifetime warranty on them. So I took it back to Walmart where I got it and being I didn't have the receipt, I had to get the same kind. Well now it's a few months later and I just "gained" 8 1/2 lbs in TWO hours???
It's off again and I'm very annoyed.
Neither scale was dropped and there is no reason for them to just break for no reason.
I'm ready to go back to the 10 dollar dial kind.
Reliable Body Fat Scale

Nice looking scale as well as an accurate one. WE have had ours for over a year now with no problem what-so-ever.Our son uses the bodyfat part of the scale and likes it very much.I read that Taylor donated thousands of dollars to Cancer Reserch from the sale of this scale
Great scale - great mission

I have been very happy with this scale. I use it daily for about the past six months. I find that it is both accurate and useful. I wish I weighed less though!!
Anything that brings the issue of breast cancer to the forefront is good too!
not accurate? NOT EVEN APPROXIMATE!!

Some days this scale will read the same WHATEVER you put on it.
I can step on it with or without shoes, holding books, with wet hair: it reads exactly the same. The next day the same conditions will produce an eight pound increase or a five pound decrease.
I think I'd get more accurate results by pulling a number out of a hat!
Please don't waste your money.
I am on [...] today, because I am shopping for a different scale. You should too.
