Great, but...
2008-04-23
I really like this attachment to the Ipod. The only problems I can mention are: 1. the "Rec" button on the TuneTalk does not work on certain generations of Ipods (like mine), 2. No ability to monitor with headphones the audio quality received, 3. The Auto gain is overly necessary in most cituations, and 4. No ability to mark points of interests (ie. create chapters).
Besides that it has worked great for recording lectures, and by keeping them on the IPod I can listen to lectures immediately after I have recorded.
Ingenious Device

What can I say, this is an ingenious device that works excellently and costs very little. Of course, you need an iPod, and a desktop or laptop computer running iTunes first. Since I already had both, and was an old pro at using them, I found the Belkin device a breeze to use. Just charge up your iPod, and plug the device in. It automatically takes your iPod to a menu designed for recording voice memos on it. You're given only a couple of choices including "record" , or "stop". By selecting record, the iPod takes input from the stereophonic mics, which are of decent clarity. Mind you, this is not super high fidelity. Its plenty high fidelity for recording a room, even a room with quite a few people in it, thanks to the automatic gain control. Those sitting close enough to it come out clear and undistorted.
It records directly to mp3 format, so by choosing the medium resolution, you use up approximately 1 megabyte per minute. My iPod is a 60 gigabyte machine. That's a lot of time! But it really doesn't matter since once you're done recording, you can sync to your iTunes, which places everything from your iPod into a playlist called "voice memos". You can then do anything you want with the recordings, including burning them to a cd, and deleting them from iTunes which effectively lets you start all over, without using any of the space on your iPod.
I've been using mine to record my band. When you are trying to teach a new band member tunes quickly, it's easiest to simply record the way the band does them at rehearsal, then transfer them to cd and let the new musician take them home to learn. It works great for that. It also allows me to send low fidelity recordings to my friends who live far away. Its not like sending a studio recording, but they get the idea.
I love this thing. Great invention, well executed.

Super-useful

The Recorder records with very good clarity. I carry it to my music class and is the perfect way to record all music sessions. I highly recommend this item.
Great quality

This has great recording quality. I use it to record my guitar playing and singing and the results are wonderful, with the only small inconvenience being a short delay time before recording begins.
Packs a Punch

The Belkin F8Z082-BLK TuneTalk Stereo for iPod Videos is a worthwhile purchase that conveniently fits in one's pants pocket or jacket. I've already recorded concerts, conversations and consciousness. The only problem is occasionally the sound will clip and the recording will skip ahead unbeknownst to the user. It would also be nice to rewind a file in progress but so far it has met my needs considerably.
Very High Quality!!

The new TuneTalk Stereo from Belkin features two high-quality omnidirectional microphones for recording memos, lectures, interviews, or conversations in full stereo. Review your CD-quality audio later by using your earbud headphones or computer. It conveniently connects to your iPod through the docking station connector port. Offers real-time adjustable gain for changing noise levels One touch navigation for quick memos
either defective or bad design, soon to know which

Pro's: the quality of the recording is very good. I bought it to record meetings and it does a good job at that.
Con's: Max hour and a quarter recording time. Unit did not save the recording before the battery went dead. Would not charge while recording, even though it was sync'd with computer. Also, without the unit attached to the iPod, there doesn't seem to navigate to the stored files to listen to them.
Belkin service turned out to great. I had bought this on ebay, had no receipt, they didn't care, authorized an exchange for a new one. I will followup this review to say whether it was the particular unit that was defective, or just a lousy design.
Cuts out.
2008-03-10
This seemed to be really cool, but ever so often the sound cuts out from anywhere from 1-6 seconds at a time. Its really annoying, and it a little inconvenient having to put your buds in to hear what you just recorded.
excellent microphone!

This tiny little add-on microphone to my iPod works incredibly well! High-quality sound recording, high sensibility (the other day I recorded poetry-reading from a scene, in the audience, the recording sounded better than being there - it suppressed all the surrounding noise from the audience!). It is so small, I can carry it all the time! I am really satisfied!

Broke after using twice

Seemed to record with good sound quality, wish it had worked longer than a couple days before it broke! This is disappointing, as is the Belkin technical support.
