All In One Place!
2008-06-21
You're traveling with your laptop, cell phone, GPS unit, electric toothbrush, electric shaver, iPod and who knows what else. They all need recharging, so you have one stuck in each socket of your hotel room. You are all over the place. This 6-outlet unit can fit anywhere in your suitcase or bag and only weighs about a ½ pound. It only measures 11 inches X 3 inches. All your rechargeable devices are in one spot and you are sure to never leave anything behind. The plugs are 24k gold-plated, which means they won't corrode. This is also great at home under your computer or stereo system or anywhere. For the price and size, this little unit is a very very convenient device.
The best product Monster has ever made. Don't travel without one.

I normally associate Monster Cable with audio and video cables sold at ludicrous markup, so I was very surprised to see this travel power strip priced fairly and marketed without too much puffery. It's a compact four-outlet power strip that lets you plug in four chargers to a single AC outlet. If you can never find an outlet in an airport, just offer to plug in this power strip and you can turn a single outlet into one that can serve four travelers. I'm using mine to charge my laptop, my cell phone, my iPod, and my Kindle simultaneously using the only unswitched outlet next to my hotel's little table.
About the only thing Monster could add is a USB socket or two. My phone and iPod can charge off a USB port, though my laptop doesn't give enough power for the former.
Got the job done

We went to Italy for two weeks and had a laptop, 2 iPods and a camera to charge. Having this small power strip with us made that a lot easier. We only needed one adapter and plugged the strip into that so didn't have to wait for each device to charge individually so this was good to have with all of the electronics we took on our trip.
Does not work overseas
2008-06-07
I purchased this, assuming that if it was marketed for travelers, and thus it would work overseas. In the future, I'll have to always check tech specs before buying. It works great in the US (110v). It's compact, has five outlets that allow for transformers, and packs in luggage well. However, it does not work with other overseas voltages (220v). In the past, I've always traveled overseas with 1 or 2 universal travel adapters, and a US power strip so that I can plug in my computer, cell phone, PDA, camera, video camera, etc. all at the same time. This works well, as many power strips don't have any electronics in them. They simply transfer the power from wall to the outlets. Of course, power strips are more bulky than this item, and one must ensure all electronics plugged into it are 220v compatible. I didn't notice the "reset" button on this device until I tried to use it overseas and blew the breaker in my room. This is so that if you overload it, you can unplug something and then simply reset it, rather than having to buy a fuse. It also caused the fuse to blow in the Kensington universal adapter that I plugged it into. This is a good item for travel in the US, but don't plan on using it overseas.
Good quality.

Got it home and tried it out. Works well right out of the box. I tested all the outlets and am looking forward to taking it on our summer vacations this year!
Great for international travel or cruising
2008-07-18
This is great for international travel, as you only need one international adapter to simultaneously charge all your gadgets.
It's also great on a cruise ship, where there is frequently only one US-type plug on the desk where you can charge all your gear.
In general, it's very sleek and compact and great for travel. Would be nice for hotels as well, so you don't have to spread your charging items all over the room, trying to find outlets. It isn't heavy or bulky. Perfect to charge my cell phone, video player and iPod all at once, plus plug in my laptop too!
Ultra portable - always stays with me

When it comes to packing and considering space and weight, I am a bit zealous. I wanted a 'powerstip' that I could throw in my computer bag and always have with me. It seems that whenever you get to a client site or in a hotel, there are never enough outlets.
The problem was solved with this little beauty. With it's small form factor, it easily fits into any computer bag and does not take up excess space. If someone sees me pull it out, they are always curious about how a 'powerstip' could be so small. This was so worth the money. I can't believe I didn't do this sooner.
Pricey, but well-designed

I used to travel with a standard household extension cord that, eventually, got quite twisted and was at least as bulky as this product. I'm not at all a fan of Monster products, but this outlet strip is well-designed and very practical. The plug and short cable attach neatly and tightly for storage, the outlets are well-space and and can accommodate "wall warts" easily. The plug is illuminated by a rather bright blue LED which is a handy indicator that there is power to the strip. It's so bright it functions as a night light -- this might be annoying for those who want absolute darkness when they sleep, but I find it helpful as I travel a lot and often wake up in the middle of the night in unfamiliar hotel rooms.
As with all Monster products, this one is on the expensive side for what it is. However, in this case, there is value for your money -- it's a well-designed travel product and I recommend it to those who need a compact, reliable power strip for travel.
Perfect for Laptops

I was originally using a cheap single outlet surge protector I got from a local electronics store. When I decided I needed something with more outlets (for the laptop and a portable hard drive) I did a Google search and found this. I loved the way it was designed to be compact and portable. The short power cable simply wraps around the outlets and plugs into one of them. Perfect to carry around in my laptop backpack. A better solution than carrying around a small power strip (which is what a friend does). It only cost about $15 when I bought it from Amazon, which is a fair price for something like this from Monster.
Handy on a trip

Rugged and functional, and surprisingly small given that you can plug in up to 4 adapters.
