Editorial Review
Final Fantasy VII: Dirge of Cerberus traces the story of the mysterious Vincent Valentine, a popular character in the classic Final Fantasy VII. Three years have passed since the events of the hit game. Buried alive following Meteorfall, a mysterious group known as "Deepground" emerges and begins raiding the city of Midgar, ultimately threatening the world. The enigmatic Vincent Valentine is somehow connected to these attacks, and he may be the only one who can save this shattered society. When the world becomes shrouded in darkness, his gun will toll a dreadful dirge.

I happened to like it... 2008-06-24
I can't forget how excited I was to learn more about the dark, broody character of the Final Fantasy series. Vincent Valentine has always been my favorite, and getting the chance to actually play his side of the story was a real treat. The gameplay itself was incredibly different this time. You're actually required to run around a aim during battles, something that I, for one, found a nice change of pace. The overall graphics were on par with anything else by Square Enix, and the cutscenes were just as good as the Advent Children movie. The game was fairly short, and I didn't find it very difficult- not counting the secret targets to unlock the bonus missions. Some people might consider this not worth buying when you can rent the game and be done in less than a week. As a true Final Fantasy fan, however, I can't imagine not seeing it on my shelf beside the rest of the series.

It's a very well-presented chunk of the FFVII "experience" 2008-06-17
It's a very well-presented chunk of the FFVII "experience", an engaging piece of storytelling for existing fans. For anyone who isn't desperately in love with FFVII it's impossible to recommend Dirge of Cerberus as anything other than a curiosity. Jody Bissoon

Not as bad as people say 2008-05-24
They're right. This is not the best game in the world, but people complain to much. Just because its name has final fantasy on it, they expect amazing things.

This is a good game, it's entertaining and has an amazing graphics and story.

Gameplay is a little off but its not that bad.

If you love vincent and final fantasy vii story, you should buy it

so this is it.. 2008-04-22
I love Vincent ever since playing FFVII.So of course I was determined to buy this game.I read a lot of reviews on amazon so I was aware of what Im buying. And still...
The game is nothing but a monotonus action.Basically its something like finishing a level, only to see a nicely made video after it.This is what kept me going.I wanted to see Vincent in good graphics and to learn more about his story. Without this, the whole game isnt even worth playing.Shooter action? There are much more better games of this genre out there.
I also found the plot to be quite ridiculous. The only things which made sense were about Vincents past (such as moments from the original FFVII shown in new graphics).
Usually, I like to collect games, even if I dont play them often, I still keep them for my nice gaming collection. But Dirge of cerberus.I sold it on ebay after finishing 1 time, I knew I never gonna touch this game anymore.
Videos? download them or watch on youtube, the game isnt worth buying because of them.
Rent this game, and see what is it for you.

Story much better than Gameplay 2008-04-21
The gameplay is average at best. IT is a fairly simple game to beat, with predictable levels. The story of the game is what makes it worth buying. Fans of Final Fantasy will enjoy for this alone. A must for Final Fantasy fans, for others....not so much.

novice gamer loved this game! 2008-04-03

The Sequal you always wanted 2008-02-08
Great game. The sequal you always wanted to play to get all of the details of Vincent's past and Lucrecia's motives. You only ever get to play Vincent or Cait Sith, though. Not the typical Final Fantasy RPG, it seems more your typical blow-em-up/shoot-em-up game. Fun nonetheless and the cut-scenes are really great. The storyline is just as captivating as any other Final Fantasy storyline. Highly recommend for any Final Fantasy lover.

A Shooter Mostly for Final Fantasy Fans 2008-01-08
If you liked the original Final Fantasy VII for the Playstation and liked it as much as to want to go back to the setting the story takes place in, I definitely recommend Dirge of Cerberus. Taking place 3 years after the events of the original, you now take the role of Vincent Valentine and go back to places like the Shinra Mansion, Junon, the wrecked trains area in the slums, and more to find out more about the story of this character. You'll get to see a few cameos from the other characters of FFVII, but don't expect to play as Cloud, Tifa, Barret, or any of your other favorite characters. Yuffie, Cait Sith, and Cid are the ones who appear the most along with Vincent.

People looking for ONLY a shooter or a "real" FPS, probably won't like DoC as much as I did, because the storyline is kind of out of pace with the rest of the game. Some sequences (which you CAN skip) last anywhere from 20 seconds to 20 minutes. This is "normal" for Final Fantasy players, but will probably seem like forever for people looking for continuous action. And even though the story is well-explained if you didn't play the original you won't understand what's going on as much as we do. Let's say that if you liked FFVII and FFVII: Advent Children and want more, than get this game. If you saw Advent Children and had no idea what was going on, this is probably not for you.

Sorely Disappointed 2007-11-13
I got this on the basis of it being a Final Fantasy Game. I was Disappointed to find out it was a FPS and not a RPG. I guess FPS games are Ok, I'm just not big on them. That having been said, The graphics are good as well as the story. The sound is good as well. I had to give it two stars only because it was a FPS. If you are a fan of FPS type games then you will enjoy this one. As for me, it will be going to the used game store, as I won't be playing it. Charlie S.

Under-rated 2007-11-11
This isnt a bad game. Admitedly I didnt expect a great game, following up one of the greatest RPG's ever made with a cheap looking time crisis style shoot em up. But from the moment the game started with an awesome sequence of taster clips and an emotive classical score, I knew that this would be an interesting adition to the FF7 storyline at least. The game takes place three years after the events of FF7 and immediately the story devlves into the neglected side story of vincent during the events of the storming of Midgar three years earlier. From then on the game takes vincent as the main character and explores his past and present following on from the vague introduction during FF7. The game play is fast and smooth, and feels like a cross between spartan warrior, metal gear solid and time crisis. As the game progresses, you level up and obtain further add ons for vincents guns such as materia and sniper scopes etc. The game is fun to play, but slightly unchallenging. It was the frequent storyline cut scenes that kept me interested rather than the often repetative gameplay action, as well the inclusion of the occasional FF7 character and location.
The downsides to this game are the inacurracy of the original locations, taking areas from FF7 and making them quite different. The shinra manor was bizzarelry about 9 times bigger than it was in FF7 for example.
The levels have interesting missions but do not provide much freedom. There is usually only one way to go, and in most cases is too obvious. Again, the game is relatively easy. With phoenix downs to keep you going even when you die, its quite difficult to lose which means less skill involved.
Also the storyline is often directly related to FF7 or advent children which is great, but means if youre new to the game you probably wont have a clue whats going on.
But on the plus side, the controls are easy to get the hang of making it a fast and adrenaline racing game. The story is engrosing, the original characters are in there and the graphics are decent enough. It was a bold risk going for a game of this style to follow on FF7, but for those avid fans out there this is an essential game for your collection. Vincent was probably the best character to follow up from the original.
