So-So

I am disappointed with the print quality. The very old HP one I use with my PC gives a much sharper image. This is attached to a Mac. Still haven't figured out how to use the scanner to save images. Envelopes don't lie flat after printing unless I'm doing something else wrong. Instructions are limited. Assuming I get all the features to work, I wouldn't recommend because it is not up to my expectation of laser print quality.
Love It!

I purchased the Samsung SCX-4200 3-in-1 True Multifunction Printer. Had heard and read good things about it. I was so tired of replacing cartridges and finally bit the bullet. While I did not buy the color one, I ABSOLUTELY love this printer and the color one will be in my future. I love this machine, easy to use, fast, efficient and no new cartridges every month. Woohoo!!!!!
Disappointing Start
2008-06-28
Just as I was buying this printer I started a new career as a Print Management Specialist dealing with controlling print costs for office laser printers. So I get to see a lot of printers now. This product had rave reviews on Amazon and very few negative reviews. I thought it was a good buy at $130 but I've only had the printer for a couple months and have printed a total of 150 pages. The machine has jammed several times while we were trying to print from the computer. Now the machine has developed loud squeaking, I'm assuming it is the feed rollers or something. This is not a good sign. Also the paper has always come out with undesirable waves in it from passing through the printer. It is a clearly symmetrical wavy pattern on the page but undesirable if you're quality conscious at all. Sincerely I wished all the good reviews were going to be my experience but now I wish I had waited until I knew a little more. It is a disappointing start for a brand spanking new machine.

Before purchasing this unit, I did research to determine which laser printer/scanner would give the best bang for the buck. The price point on this unit is very good, considering how the unit performs.
The printing is very acceptable (and quite fast), it powers down when not in use (like a 'sleep' mode), so I don't worry about forgetting to turn it off. It works quite well when printing envelopes too (couldn't say that about the inkjet that this replaced).
The scanning is as good as I had hoped for. I am a professional photographer and sometimes my clients will give me worn and ripped photo and ask if I can 'fix' it. When I scan the print, I don't have resolution issues as it scans at a high resolution.
If you don't need a fax (I do wish this unit had one) this unit would be a good choice -- especially for cost.
Great So Far

This is probably the most reasonably priced Laser Multifuction out there. I also have a Cannon MX5700 which can be purchased for a similar amount of money. I think both are fantastic values and although each has pros and cons relative to one another, (Samsung is smaller but has no fax) in general both work terrific, are easy to setup and are relatively inexpensive.
Print and scan quality for me is excellent. It has been about 1 month since my purchase and I am completely satisfied.
geat deal for the price

Good printer

As a laser printer with added capability this fits my needs well. The print is excellent, copy mode is good. Somewhat awkward to select zoom features in the copy mode. Absolutely silent in sleep mode -- comes to life quickly. For the price (<$150), really hard to beat.
Great deal for the price.

I've had it for a couple of months now and I don't even know how to use all the features/software that came with it but so far it's been great. I use it to scan and print. There's some pretty good software that comes with it that has a lot of options. The first print takes about 11 seconds from a cold start but after that they spit out back to back. The print quality is pretty good (but I haven't used lazer paper yet). I just like that fact that it works everytime I need to print and I don't have to worry about running out of ink every 2 months (ink jet junk!). At the rate I use it, I shouldn't have to buy another toner cartridge for 2 years. And when I do, they're pretty reasonable. Excellent buy for someone who is sick and tired of buying ink jet cartridges all the time and you don't mind giving up color. I highly reccomend this product.
Pros:
* Low profile design
* Paper tray doesn't stick out
* Quite operation
* Good software
* Good print options
Cons:
* Construction could be a little more sturdy would be more $$$$
Great Printer Value

I have personally owned a number of laser printers, everything from HP, to Dell, to Brother, and this has surpassed them all in effenciency, quiteness, speed etc. We are using it with a wireless print server as I am a college pastor and we have a number of college students that live with us and use it for their printing needs as well. It works great. I looked for about a month and read reviews from cnet etc until I finally settled on this one. I have returned 3 different brothers and have worn out HPs so I am not impressed with their quality, but This has been a great printer and coppier for the price. I neve use fax, so I did not need it and this foot the bill. Go for it!
Efficient & energy-saving laser printer
2008-02-26
I initially bought a HP inkjet all-in-one printer for my parents' house but after 2 years of spending so much money on ink (pretty much had to buy ink about every 2 months), it finally started to break down. I decided it was time to get a new printer for them--this time a laser. I did a lot of searching and reading reviews before settling on getting this Samsung multifunction printer (and I'm glad I did!). This Samsung printer is an OK size..not too big but not very small either (what do you expect for a laser printer..) but it's a decent size. I love the fact that this printer is energy star compliant (it goes to "sleep" mode when not in use but takes less than a minute to load up when you need to print). Printer is not extremely loud when printing but it does make noise (nothing too bothersome). Printing quality is excellent (a lot more crisp & clear than my inkjet before). Copier function is also good (copies comes out fast and clear as original). I haven't tried the scanner function yet but I'm sure that it works great also. The price on Amazon for this printer cannot be beat! (I bought mine for $154). Although toner was a bit pricey ($68 but should last for awhile; FYI, printer comes with toner but I bought one as backup extra) but I'm sure that the money I put out before for the inkjet was way more than that so can't complain. The only drawback I would say with this printer is that it's not duplex printing, doesn't have wireless networking (or so I'm aware), and no color printing. The three cons listed is not a priority to me so I am very happy with this purchase. If you need a monochrome multifunction laser printer that is efficient and also an energy-saver then this printer works great. (I am moving out on my own soon and am planning to buy this printer for my own home also.)
