Pop out of the box, turn it on, go!

My wife and I have been using this for about a week. Just perfect for our needs: less-stress traveling to unfamiliar places, no trying to squint at maps while driving (I hadn't realized what a stress and how dangerous it is, trying to read a mapquest or map when driving, constantly referring to each new turn instead of focusing on the road) and it works like a dream. So easy to use, finds restaurants, gas stations, lodging, or tap in the name on the touchscreen and it'll find markets, stores, all kinds of stuff.
I downloaded and upgraded the firmware from Garmin, it's a breeze, just install the unit's software on your PC first (follow instructions to the letter and it's simple), then download the automatic upgrader from the Garmin site, and in a couple minutes, you're current.
It acquires satellites here (upstate NY) in 20 seconds or less, and picks excellent routes. If you want to go a different way, it instantly recalculates a new route and sends you on your way.
Wonderful product, does what it's supposed to do, simple to use, easy to pop out of the windshield mount and stick in your windbreaker pocket, purse or glove compartment. I love it! I can't imagine how I lived without it (I get lost all the time up there in these windy country roads)!
Not Up to Date

I found in using the GPS that I purchased thru Amazon that it did not have streets on it that are over 3 years old. I thought that I would be getting a more current version of maps.
It is AWESOME! LOVE IT! So EASY to use.

I had a cobra navone 3000, compared to this one, it was so big, bulky and no touch screen. I bought this one for my dad who speaks only chinese and loves driving. He loves it! It has English too!! I can use it also! great direction and many navagation preference choices. I recommend to even non asian users!! for asian users, it is hell of a deal!!
To set the record straight on Languages included for this unit

In response to lots of confusion in the previous reviews and questions from prospective buyers (not sure why the reviewer is wrong, maybe reviewer doesn't actually own the unit?):
I own this unit and here are the options on the the languages menu that you can select: The manual and box fails to mention Cantonese voice, which is a HUGE selling point for many Chinese people in the US.
1. Simplified Chinese, Mandarin voice
2. Traditional Chinese, Mandarin voice
3. Simplified Chinese, Cantonese voice
4. Traditional Chinese, Cantonese voice
5. Traditional Chinese, Taiwanese voice (ming-nan)
6. Japanese text & voice
7. Thai text & voice
8. Korean text & voice
9. ENGLISH TEXT & VOICE

Nice! My wife had a problem with the unit taking a really long time to find the satellites initially, but that problem only occurred twice. The unit is great for finding restaurants and stores due to it's internal library. I'm a little fuzzy about how to keep the listings updated, and I get the feeling you have to subscribe to a pay service(?) My cousin wanted a unit that would recalculate if you don't follow the directions suggested by the unit, and this model does this well. You have to get used to the unit telling you to "in 200 feet, turn right", but you are already in that intersection. I guess the unit assumes that you are driving the speed limit on surface streets! hee hee The unit has an English setting, so luckily for me, this isn't only for Asian languages.

Good, but it is a little expensive and not very heavy on features or upgradibility. Wish it had Cantonese Chinese on it too.
Easy to use, but too many lost signals

The user interface is excellent. The installation is nothing to it. Its problem is too many lost signals. I don't know if a booster antenna can help. It is frustrating that when you need it the most (e.g. making turns), it quits on you.

Problem with Taiwanese language
2008-01-02
I bought this for my Taiwanese speaking parents and we just completed a 2 week road trip. It was disappointing that the Taiwanese is a direct translation of Mandarin Chinese, and word for word translations usually come out garbled. Some of the directions in Taiwanese were incomprehensible and in the end, my parents preferred the Mandarin version. However, the Mandarin voice is pleasant, clear, and very understandable. Some other criticisms:
1) Turn in 200 ft is actually turn NOW!
2) Not enough warning to get off when driving on the freeway unless you remember to look at the screen.
3) The GPS doesn't announce the street name. It just says to turn in X distance.
4) it's hard for people to read screens if they wear bifocals or are far sighted.
Pros:
1) Really easy to use out of the box and the touch screen interface is nice.
2) Useful when really lost
3) Can find gas stations or restaurants close to current or final destination.
Just ok

If you don't know how to find the way home, its really help. But if you want to find some places new, then you may not rely on this GPS. As the map of this model is not new. If you want to get the latest map, you need to buy online for $69.99.
