Rustoleum 2 part epoxy - Preperation is EVERYTHING!!!!!
2008-06-17
I used the gray w/ flakes and then the clear coating. After reading reviews, I was hesitant, so I talked to the guys at my local hardware store. This family has run this store for over 50 years and they are true DIY-ers. Sure enough 2 of them had used it and they brought me to a section of the store that they used it (marine). "Preperation is Everything!" was repeated at least 5 times. If you have older cement, 2 coats is a must or you will get different looking patches. I broke all the rules with this, I did walls, wood trim, stairs and a counter on the patio. Prep time was a full day, I mixed half the paint and did a second coat the next day and I painted paint board for a wall. 2 days later I did the clearcoat w/ anti skid powder. I have also done the tan on a cement patio (fully covered/no sides). This is a heavily used garage and full BATHROOM with walls. My sons use this as there main bathroom. The garage has projects with power and hand tools constantly. They look perfect. Grease & oil, other paint, plaster, glue, cars, dropped tools and a grill have not left even a chip. The only spot on all of this is a small PVC primer drop. That came when I added the shower stall to the bathroom. That's what the paintboard was for. So I've used these products on a lot and 2 months later it still looks great. Now I have friends asking me to do it for them. One was quoted nearly $600 for a 2 car garage. Remember, different spots absorb different amounts, your acid wash won't correct this, a second coat will. The clearcoat's coverage was well above what was listed. The colored paint is close. I was also told not to lay it too thick and followed those instructions. The second coat makes a huge difference and I didn't bother useing clearcoat on the patio. I figured a dropped plate or fork doeasn't compare to a dropped vise in the garage. This Stuff Rocks!!! and if it comes out wrong, you prepped wrong. Preperation is everything along with following the instructions regarding surface applications and time. Get a long extention handle for your roller for the second coat. My patio was only a few years old so I did the second coat in an hour with the full mixed batch followed by more requests at every gathering to do this coating for others. DIY folks, proceed with confidence, you will love this product.

I like in the Northeast, snow, salt, hot, cold.
I spent weeks on cleaning and prep having read that you cannot spend too much time to have a totally clean surface (yes you can). Pressure washer, stiff brush, TSP, blah, blah,
The floor looked great for the first year and then it quickly went down hill. It did not peel but the surface did wear badly. I followed the instructions to the letter, mixing, cure time so installation was not the problem.
I used more than enough material and did not spread it on too thin.
The fact is that the for difficult weather conditions, the material is just not up to the job.
If you down south or in the west, wear snow, ice and salt is not an issue this product may do fine, but for others, try something else.
I am now looking at a industrial floor mat, a lot of money but I suspect much more durable.
Great Results - Highly Recommended!

I could not be more pleased with the epoxyshield product line. I started with epoxyshield paint - I used the tan with the color flecks. The final look exceeded expectations. My wife took one look and asked when I would be doing her floor. I allowed the floor to dry fully and then applied 2 coats of epoxyshield premium clear coating (spaced 12 hours apart). The results were phenomenal! The floor looks like there is a thin layer of water over it. Very high gloss.Anyway my results were outstanding. I recommend 2 thin coats vs. one thick coat. (In order to apply one kit as 2 coats you have to mix 1/2 of each part for the first application and then 1/2 again for the second. To do this I bought (3) 1 gallon plastic paint buckets (Home depot) with markings on the side (like measuring cups) I then poured all of part A into one, all of Part B into another and then poured 1/2 of each into the third. After mixing part A and part B I poured the mixture (little by little) directly onto the garage floor and spread it out with a roller. This technique worked well and allowed me to avoid an epoxy filled paint tray. Also, I was able to use a single kit for 2 full applications to my single car garage. My neighbor took one look and told me his buddy just paid $2000 to have his garage floors done professionally and my floor looked better!
Stay Away from this Product!!!

I just installed the product on my garage floor and I can honestly say it looked better before installing the Rustoleum floor epoxy. Let me be clear that I followed the instruction to the 'letter' and my garage floor was in great shape to start (no oil stains, cracks, etc). After drying, the product has uneven color distribution, the gloss is patchy (some shiny areas, some flat) and it dries at different rates. Plan to keep your garage empty for a few days and pray it doesn't rain. I called Rustoleum and they informed me that the color streaking and roller marks was normal due to the porisity of cement. What?? Also the gloss distribution is apparently not their problem. They are unwilling to provide any assistance. I have since researched the product and other reviews describe the same poor experience. What a mess!!!!
