JUNK! WASTE OF MONEY!!
2008-08-14
I purchased the WNR 3500 router and the WN511T adaptor to support it. Worked well for about a month with the occasional dropped signal. It now drops every hour at least and requires reconnection to the Internet. The latest drivers have been installed, etc, etc. An absolute waste of time and money and the worst network product I have ever purchased.

I have purchased a new desk top computer and it works great but the only way I can get the internet it to have a usb adapter or notebook adapter and my notebook adapter works real good.
Perfect For WIFI Sniffing

device = 5 stars , software = 1
This product is perfect for your wireless security pen tests, but do make sure to get the Marvell TOPDOG driver for it (http://www.wildpackets.com/support/downloads/driver_download/11)
you will need that to get the right performance from this device, whether or not you want to use it for other things, get that driver. you will be thoroughly satisfied, it is a work-horse, great range, it is reliable, with the proper driver. one drawback (against the company, not the device) netgear is notorious for bad user interfaces, this is one of those awful interfaces, thats why its a 4 not a five, the topdog driver solves that.
Compatability issues with Netgear products

This card can create a link to my Netgear wireless routers (WNR3500 or DG834PN) but can't make an internet connection (DHCP problem?). Works fine with an older USR 8054 wireless router.
Get better wireless range with the USR 8054 than either of the Netgear RangeMax routers even when used with matching Netgear RangeMax adapters.
Fast, Stable...? um... NO!

I was VERY dissapointed with this card! My wireless G card that I replaced this one with was acctualy getting a faster and more stable connection to my Netgear RangeMax NEXT Gigabit Edition Router! The router works great, but this card is a peice of garbage! Think about other brands for wireless cards, I do reccomend NetGears routers though.
pretty much kicks a$$

RangeMax Notebook Adapter

Range and signal strength not as good as the slower (54 mbps) built-in adapter in my HP notebook. Expected Netgear to Netgear signal to be superior, but is not the case here. 300 mbps is over-rated, since bandwidth controls the volume of data. Somewhat dissappionted in this product. Perhaps in a higher bandwidth network, would realize the benefits.
Great Product

The WN511T is a "must-match" product if you have purchased a WNR854T, 1 Gigabit router.
The card offers superior connect and operating speeds for your laptop.
Unbelievable Speed! Great Performance!

I recently received an HP notebook as a Christmas gift. The problem was that the internal 802.11b/g wireless card was very slow (20-30 Mbps) and kept dropping the signal if I moved too far from the router as we have an older house with thick lath and plaster walls. We have a 1700 square foot house and I was looking for something with a little more ooomph and reliability.
After reading articles in Maximum PC magazine and PC World, I decided to give the Netgear WNR854T Wireless, Pre-N Gigabit router and the Netgear WN511T RangeMax Notebook adapter a chance. The advertised connection speed is 300 Mbps.
Well, all I can say is "OH MY GOD!" This is the most fantastic thing I have ever seen! I am achieving 300 Mbps connection speeds with NO DROP OUT in 2 months now anywhere in the house. The slowest I have connected is about 67 feet from the router at 270 Mbps in the front of the house and sometimes even 300 Mbps at that range! I used the CNET broadband site to test my connection speed and was achieving the same 3.7 to 4 MBps download speeds as my wired connection. I can download a 79 MB file in under 30 seconds on a busy day on my notebook using the WN511T Adapter card.
I assume with more modern houses with gypsum/drywall instead of lath and plaster your speed/distance from the base router (WNR854T) would be even greater.
I recently sat out in our backyard, about 80 feet from the base and was online at 262 Mbps! I mean 80 feet!
If you buy any Pre-N router this year and notebook adapter, I highly recommend the Netgear WNR854T and WN511T pair. You won't be sorry. And the WNR854T comes with the highest security protocols, WEP, WPA, WPA-2 and WPA-2SK. It is also highly configurable for online gaming, networking and backwards compatible with 802.11g.
Its pretty good

This card is pretty good for I were expective. Its card receive more signal that another cheaper branch like lansy or something similar. I know what I talking about because my roommate got this card and I have the netgear. I can tell the difference between her signal and mine.
the only incovenience is the netgear program. Usually, the wireless is detected by the computer and pu-up the connection. You need conect first with the program and then, search what is the connection that you want.
In general, I don't complain
