solid
2008-04-24
This is a solid printer. I use it at my office for minor print jobs and am more than happy. Wish it had a double sided print function but other than that NO complaints.
Can't get much better!

I'm a mom of 5 who homeschools. When it comes to printing, we need something that falls in between an office grade printer and a standard deskjet. This was the answer. I get about 500 pages MORE than it says it can print per cartridge, not to mention the quiet, fast printing quality. I have not been let down!
Great printer for the price

As usual, HP makes great printers. This one is no different. It prints quickly, quietly and with good quality. The only problem was HP's refusal to make drivers for Windows XP 64-bit edition.
Not Mac Compatible
2008-03-12
I went to buy one printer, but when it was not in stock, I ended up getting this one only to find out that it is NOT MAC compatible. I would have checked here first, but with so many that can interface it did not occur to me that a brand new printer would not.
Customer care for HP has gone down the tubes, you are on hold forever, I was hung up on TWICE and when you do speak with a live person it is with someone in another country so the significant language barrier makes resolving the problem impossible. I am returning this printer and getting a Canon.
Couldn't be happier
2008-06-14
I had an HP 6L years ago. I remember paying about $400 for it and it lasted about 2 years before the paper feeder went bad. I had to manually feed page by page. After that experience, I went through a few Inkjet before I decide to go back to laser printers again.
Even though I didn't buy mine through Amazon, I got my HP 1018 for $15 after rebates. How can you beat that?! I was skeptical and didn't expect the printer to last long, but now, after more than 1 year, it's still cranking away. It's small, quiet, and fast. It's a shame that toner cartridges cost more than the printer itself. I hate to contribute to the our greenhouse problems by generating more waste, but it does not make sense to buy toners when it's cheaper to buy a new printer. Maybe when the toner runs out, I will donate it or put it on Craigslist.
The 1018 is a throwaway printer
2008-06-03
I've had the LaserJet 1018 for about 6 months. It's cheap small and looks nice on the desk. About a month ago the printer stopped pulling paper correctly and that's when all hell broke loose. I should have simply thrown the printer out. Instead, I did like most would do....I tried to work through HP support to get the problem corrected. Don't bother. Just throw it away.
I am very happy with it.

I have been satisfied with this printer. I have only had one trouble with it pulling more than one sheet of paper through at a time, but that is all the trouble that I have had. I recommend this item highly. I bought it for use in college, printing powerpoints.
Welcome to the Era of Disposable Laserjets
2008-05-03
First off, you should not have paid more than 50 dollars for this printer. Deals where everywhere for this thing! They were unloading them for 50 bucks each, so, hopefully you didn't pay too much more.
Second, it has driver issues with Vista. A black bar prints on the right whenever you print a graphic (anything not text). Tech support says to print at 600dpi resolution instead of 300, but that just makes the line narrower.. subsequent driver updates never fixed the problem for me, so once the toner ran out I just bought a different laser.
I don't think they make these anymore, but if you ever do have a chance to buy one, I'd avoid it.
A nice home use printer

HP LaserJet 1080 printer was easy to set up. I am very pappy with its performance based on one month of use. Only short coming would be the toner in the original cartridge lasted less then 400 pages of printing.
