Editorial Review
Wrist blood pressure monitors are portable, accurate and simple to use. They provide a convenient choice for those who want a second unit for away from home or who have trouble placing a cuff on their arm. The Omron HEM-650 Wrist Blood Pressure Monitor with APS (Advanced Positioning Sensor) uses Omron's patented IntelliSense technology, which inflates the wrist cuff to the ideal level with each use and offers fast, personalized, and automatic inflation for maximum comfort. No adjustments are required to select an inflation level--especially convenient for hypertensive users and for people with certain arrhythmia or heart disorders, because their blood pressure is more likely to fluctuate. And with the HEM-650's 90-memory recall with date and time stamp, as well as averaging capabilities for the last three readings, you can track your blood pressure and pulse progress as your work towards a healthier lifestyle. The HEM-650 also features a system that detects an irregular heartbeat, giving you an even better understanding of your heart's health. Plus, you'll have additional peace of mind knowing that the HEM-650 comes with a 5-year warranty.
Because the HEM-650 has a wrist cuff, it is particularly helpful if you have a larger than average sized arm. The monitor fits those with a wrist size of 5.25 to 8.5 inches, and it ensures easier and more comfortable use. Note, however, that a wrist monitor does require proper positioning of the device at the heart level. Correct cuff positioning is critical when monitoring blood pressure, fortunately, the HEM-650 features an advanced positioning sensor that automatically confirms that the cuff is level with the user's heart, thereby ensuring an accurate reading.
It is critical that when using a blood pressure monitor the cuff is the appropriate size and is properly applied. An ill-fitting cuff or an incorrectly-applied cuff can result in inaccurate readings. Consult your doctor or the included instructions for the proper application of the cuff.

Great once you learn to use it.

The unit is a little difficult to use at first, since your wrist has to be positioned in the right place relative to your heart--and that place isn't necessarily where the instructions say it should be. But once you've located the spot, it's fast, easy, and apparently accurate when properly used. I suggest that when starting out, use it in a very quite location so that you can hear the audible signals that tell you when you have it properly (or improperly) located. I had trouble with it at first, but a quick call to customer support (Omron has excellent customer support.) cleared up my problem.
got it for my dad, works really well

pros: very accurate measurement, takes AAA batteries so its easy to use in any country as the power adapters are not needed.
cons: since it has positioning sensor it could be a little annoying, but that being said, it is present for a good reason, it avoids giving inaccurate measurment if the wrist is not positioned right.
Omron HEM-650 - Cross Your Heart and Hope to Die!

This machine has a sensor determining when your wrist is on a level with your heart, which is not a necessity on any blood pressure machine.
There is not even one inch of leeway - if your left hand is not precisely to the right of your heart it will beep angrily.
And you have no idea what to do.
easy to use

My husband has an irregular heart beat. We bought this because it was one unit without anything that needed to be plugged in. He has had to use it twice already and it was very easy to use and it confirmed to us and the doctor that something was indeed wrong and it kept an exact record of each event.
Happy with it

For some reason it works better than my calf digital (omron too). It's more accurate and more consistent. Maybe not for all, but the positioning feature works great. I think someone must follow closely the directions given on how to measure blood pressure before passing judgement. You MUST be rested and with this you MUST be in a seated position, not laid back on a counch but standing well. Avoid loud surrounding noises (including music & tv) and you will have an accurate reading. Very handy to travel with.
It's a keeper!

I've had high blood pressure for years and have been looking for the perfect monitor. This is as close to perfect as I've found.
Historically, wrist monitors have been innacurate. Depending on where one placed their wrist (low, high, etc), you would get different readings. This unit demands you place it in the same spot everytime or it won't work. When you have it positioned correctly, you get four little beeps and it proceeds to measure.
When I found that my rheumy and my cardiologist were both using these wrist monitors, it got my attention. So I bought one.
I used it for about a month and brought it to my appointment with my internist. We compared it with the manual cuff and found it to be within 3%.
The other GREAT factor is that my doctor could now scroll through a week or two of my home measurements! I was able to delete one HBP pill because he said "You do have white-coat syndrome, your readings are fine when you're not here."
It is also SO easy to use for anyone. The auto-inflate cuff that I used to use was OK, but difficult to get on and it didn't like a non-regular pulse. Many errors. I've only had one error in six weeks and that was because I moved to swat a fly.
You will be impressed with this device. I promise it will be the best $70 you've spent on you health (A write-off, too!).
Got my unit the first of the week and

I just love it! I have another Omron with the arm cuff and much prefer this one. Easy to use. Agree with others in that it tells you where it will take the pressure--not necessarily the way the instructions show, but it works consistently. If anything happens to this one I will certainly get another one either like it or a step above. Omron is one of the best made.
My monitor is about 20 points off top reading and about 20 off bottom readying

Could I be doing something wrong. It shows my blood pressure in normal to low range but when I went to doctor today, I had the nurse to test her cuff on both arms and I used mine and mine was really off. Is there a way of regulating these.
comfortable and accurate

I owned a bp monitor with the arm cuff which was very uncomfortable after inflation. This wrist cuff isn't painful and the readings are very accurate.
OMRON: POOR QUALITY AND POOR SERVICE
2008-06-30
I bought this cuff and it no longer worked after only the second time using it. Sent it back to the company along with a check for $5 to cover repair/shipping. They sent it back and it still didn't work. I WOULD NEVER, EVER BUY FROM OMRON AGAIN. Bought a CVS cuff and after several hundred uses, it works just fine. I would give 0 stars for this piece of junk if it were possible.
