Great sound and picture...but some flaws.
2007-03-13
I bought this unit a few months back (the white version), I was quite surprised by the quality of sound from just 2 speakers. The video also did not fail to impress, I have a Samsung LCD as well so the DVD remote was almost an identical replacement which did not hurt as well. One problem though...and it is a BIG one. I don't know if it's only with my unit because nobody else has commented on it. But from time to time...I'd say 2 out of 5 DVD's either load up EXTREMELY slow or just stop playing at some random point in the movie. I've checked the DVD's for scratches and they have been in near perfect condition and it still froze up the DVD player. I've resorted to using the DVD player on my XBOX 360 from time to time.
I totally would have given this unit a 5 out of 5 if not for the problems that I've had. The unit looks great (except for cheesy blue lighting).
Great system

After setting up the system and listening to music and playing movies in my home, I am very happy with the purchase, I got this system for only $250 aswell.
It has a very nice and shiny black finish, it fits right in with my black stand and black TV. I kind of wish the sub was more of a box, but it look good either way. And the 1/2 tall satellites look great, they come with a stand to put on the floor or can hand on a wall.
The only bad thing about the design in the receiver. It is tall and has a top feeding DVD. I have to lean the top of it out to put in a DVD, and have had a few instances where people hit the eject button. No damage though. Aswell if you have an HDMI and Dig Opt cable, unless you want to strain the cables by bending them, you can't put the rear cover back on. This is the only true design flaw.
This system is very easy to connect, and has all the latest inputs and outputs. It has a HDMI, Digital optical audio, component aswell as a USB port. For an added bonus you can listen to the radio. All this easily accessible on the side of the system. For the sub and satellites there is plenty of cable to string them out onto a wall away from the receiver.
Really good system overall, the sub sounds good and the satellites are great. If you look in past the hard mesh you can see 4 or 5 speakers for alot of sound.
Great Sound!

Nice unit high quality sound at max output, worth it. Dislikes: back cover difficult to remove/install, fan noise (noticable when close up and no music playing), tacky blue LED display - default (can be turned off).
Bad design, good sound, overpriced

I know this product looks cool and really compliments your black iPod but its design doesn't exactly fit well into a media cabinet. It top loads the DVD (vertical loading) which means you need quite a bit of room above it and the LED display is huge and constantly flashing which is really distracting when watching a movie in a dark room. Feeding cables to the back is also a bit of a pain.
However, it does sound pretty nice. i was quite surprised that a 2.1 system could sound so robust.
I don't know if this is an issue with all of these models but It seems to have real trouble handling digital/optical audio signal. My system's audio will stop working randomly when playing my Xbox 360 and it will also drop out when I'm switching channels from the cable. Again, this might just be my system.
All in all I'd say skip this one, and spend less money on a more functional system. You'd be amazed at what you can pick up for $400-500...hell you could buy a real, beefy receiver with 7.1 for that price if you look.
Sounds & Look Great

Bose, Sony, Denon, and Phillips also make similar products. I tested them all extensively (as best you can in a store). The performance for all of them was very good except for the Phillips, which was clearly a step below (but also very inexpensive). So in the end I purchased the Samsung on equal performance and best value/price. Be careful about the Bose and Denon - they do not always have the HDMI output.
After setting up the system and listening to music and playing movies in my home, I am very happy with the purchase. The setup was easy and straightforward. Hardest thing was getting the rear cover back on. You just have make sure all the wires feed throught the opening in the bottom cetner of the cover. The sound is great. Virtual surround is pretty good too. Not as good as true 5.1, but I didn't have to run wires to the back of the room either! Video quality is also outstanding.
The appearance of the unit is also outstanding. It has a very nice black finish and looks great with the Samsung TVs. One word of caution on the operation, the DVD/CDs load from the top and the unit is rather tall. This makes it difficult to fit/use the unit in some entertainment centers. I had to leave the middle shelf out of the unit I bought to make it fit/work. Was not a big deal, but something that should be considered.
Overall, a great unit at a great price!
MP3 users CHECK compatibilty before you buy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I bought The HT-q100 about nine months ago. All was going rather well. Its a really cool looking device and for being only a 2.1 it sounds wonderful. I also like the blue lights. I almost exclusively use it as a cd player.
Now, some months later I am running into some issues that are getting me red in the face. I can deal with the pause only lasting for 20 seconds before it shuts it self off while using it as a cd player. When I use it as a dvd player it sometimes wont work very well. I mean that a dvd will "skip" or "freeze" on a frame All through most movies! For Christ sakes! Do any of you realize how uncool that it is to a lady you just started dating! Picture this, she comes to your house to watch a movie and the movie starts to skip and freeze!!!! Not good, Not good at all Samsung! Its definitely not going to make for a romantic atmosphere, you know what Im say'n. I dont know if its the design or what, but Im sure because its an upright it could collect dust easier internally.
Now the Kicker. Just a week ago I Bought a Creative Zen vision W to play on this wretched thing. SOB- my Vision W isn't compatible!!!!!!! I couldn't for the life of me understand why when I plugged my player in using the supplied USB cable, the Samsung (fill in you Adjective of choice here. Mine is P.o.S)would read No USB. What?? Over and over I tried but to no avail. I was only about 45 min. ago did I find out compatibility was the problem. Hell, I understand that I-Pods dont even work with this thing. Its just reprehensible that A global company would intentionally make Many and Most Mp3 players not compatible with their products. Your a Criminal waste of my hard earned money Samsung and for that I hold you Liable.
ultimately this is a deplorable machine and if I could do it over again I would look over this product. I gave it two stars because it looks and sounds good.
beware MP3 incompatibility

I bought a Samsung theater planning to use my MP3 player via the USB port. Beware- they do not tell you that the USB feature is compatible with only 30 or so players, 20 of them Samsung plus a couple of other models you've never heard of. It won't even accept iPods!
Otherwise it works great and is Gorgeous.
Great Home Theater!

I love this home theater system, its soo neat and cool looking. The sound is really good, even at loud volumes, especially since it is a 2.1 stereo system. Great value and buy for the price.
Great Sound

I am not sure if everyone knows this but after you remove the back cover you can unscrew the back off the stand and there is a neat channel for all the wires this makes the unit very neat and tidy even if you have a HDMI, phono, toslink, power and speaker cables all plugged in. Also does anyone know if the usb will power a portable harddrive such as the '650mA WD passport'
Stopped working after a month and a week

To start, I bought this system because it is supposed to rival the Bose 321 and Sony 2.1 "virtual" surround systems at a fraction of the price. The sound was average at best and the top loading dvd tray didn't make any sense. You had to pull out the head unit to put a movie in every time.
Quality - After a month and week after purchase the system had a symbol on like the slash indicating no smoking. Couldn't even eject the DVD that was in the unit. It has been 2 months that my system has been with Samsung, until today when they finally offered me a refund.
This has been a horrible experience and I couldn't recommend this product to my worst enemy.
