Loyal SONY Customer 2008-07-05
Finally upgraded my SONY SAVA system of 12 years after a lot of research and considering other brands, I am very happy I stayed with SONY. The set up instructions could have been written better, but once you get one speaker done, the rest is easy. Match the color of the cord to the color of the label on back of speaker and you are on your way. Once set up the sound is very good. The wireless rear speakers are awesome. I tested out the system with the movie "U-571" & the house was shaking.... puurrrfeect!

You can spend a lot of money on sound systems, and it was a challenge to find anything this good under $1,000.

Next up is Apple TV for movie downloads.

Very Nice All-inclusive Unit 2008-06-28
Sony is a brand that demonstrates solid quality all of the time. The DAV-FX900W kept true to that. The unit as some have said does load and change disks slow but overall this would be the only flaw I've seen. Very nice sound, easy installation and fair amount of customizations. For someone who's looking for a nice unit that's easy to use and offers great sound, this is for you.

This has been a good fit for our home and with the price reduced is a good buy. The sound is fine for recreational and not particularly savvy users like me and you can move around the back wireless speakers so that they can be used in adjacent rooms. Its easy to set up and the slow change of the DVD doesn't really bother me.

Great system...takes a while to assemble though 2008-03-29
I purchased Sony DAV-FX900 last month and am very pleased with the performance. Setup was a bit difficult and I think Sony could have done a better job with instruction manual. I still ended up fitting the speakers with wrong color coded wires (didn't want to open it again to redo it). This is my first HT system and overall I would give a thumbs up.

The installation process was fairly easy. The programming was a little more complex. There is a downside to this system in that there are several different ways to wire from the DVD player to the TV and so far I cannot find a solution that allows the TV sound to be ran through the unit. The only thing left to try is the digital optical cable. If that does not work, I will be very disappointed. The system however, performs admirably with the DVD's and that is enough to warrant keeping this system.

Good System 2008-01-22
This is a very good system for the price point. Admittedly I'm not an audiophile, but I know good sound when I hear it. The treble is very clear and after putting the sub in the corner of the room, the bass rumbles throughout the entire house. The only weak point of the system is the lack of midrange speakers. Midrange sounds, particularly male speaking voices, come across as too hollow, though during music playback the midrange sounds fine.

I like the fact that the amplifier of the rear speakers is integrated into the base. I would hate to have to hide an unsightly boxy amplifier. As for the changing speed of the discs, it is slow, but I have no problem with it. The only other potential problem for some users may be the limited number of connections to and from other devices.

Perfect 2008-01-16
I purchased this system for my husband for Christmas. Set up was a breeze. It is a user friendly system for the whole family. Sounds great and looks even better.

Much better than expected 2008-01-12
Great sound and dvd quality. Took a little longer than expected to install. A lot more parts to install than expected. We had to figure it out on our own to install all the cables and wiring. Would've helped if they had an easy 1-2-3 install guide but their guide was not very user friendly.

Nonetheless the finished product looks good and sounds great.

A great deal for a solid brand at $440!

Form and function 2008-01-11
I absolutely love Amazon and use it for anything from designer shoes, bags and watches to Electronics. I still can't believe I paid $440 for this home theater system in December 07 (I'd pay full price for it). Superb quality - looks and sounds fantastic. I have to admit, I'm no DJ - but I play piano so my opinion should not be discounted entirely.

Assembly was easy, although a bit time consuming for my husband. I connected/calibrated the entire system myself with no help - just read the instructions. Wireless surround speakers work beautifully - that was my key criterion for purchasing this stylish-looking system.

I have the receiver connected to my brand new plasma HDTV with an HDMI cable. I realized I needed an optical audio cable (purchased separately) to hear TV programming in 5.1 surround...
