Great training aid!
2008-06-02
I bought the Highgear PulseWare Duo HeartRate Monitor about a month ago and what a difference it has made in my training. The first time I used it during my workout, I found that I was working well above my cardio range which explained why I wasn't making progress. Now I am able to monitor my workouts to stay within the desired range and have seen a marked increase in my training results. This monitor is easy to use and offers the added flexibility of having both chest strap and fingertip sensors. I would highly recommend this product.
too complex

I had a heart rate monitor before so I am familiar with how they work but this one was alittle too complex for me ... the manual wasn't the best because I followed the directions and it didn't work so take your chances
A Great Alternative

Heart Rate Monitors (HRMs) from the big brands are very expensive. If you bought a watch from Polar or Nike with this many features you'd be paying quite a bit more. Compare the others to this HRM and you'll see what I mean. You may not even find a HRM with the "dual" functionality that allows you to get your heart rate wearing a chest strap or just using your fingers. It's very handy!
There are a couple drawbacks, though. It goes through batteries fairly quickly in both the watch and the chest strap, causing them to lose connectivity off and on as the batteries get weak. However, with the "dual" functionality I can always check my heart rate using my fingers and the watch, and that is always accurate.
Also, it's a great looking watch though it's a bit big for me. I have the watch on its smallest buckle setting and I had to do some sewing on the chest strap to keep it tight around my midsection. This watch would probably be more suitable for a man, though I have it working just fine. I called High Gear and they said it's the smallest chest strap they have, so that is the only option if you are female. I'm not a particularly tiny woman, so if you are small this might not work for you.
All in all, though, I'm glad I purchased this HRM. I couldn't work out without it!
Nice HRM

It has its problems but overall a good HRM.
Have trouble resetting the Lap and for some reason, in this mode, it keeps stopping at 1 hr 39 minutes????
Oh well, it seems accurate when it comes to my heart rate and thats what I bought it for...
good, but complicated

I haven't yet used the chest monitor, but I have used the finger monitor. It works very well. My only complaint is that setting it up is a bit complicated, though the manual is pretty decent.
