Customer Reviews
well built but terrible interface and ergonomics
2008-07-19
The Philips DETC phone has great sound quality but a terrible display that is difficult to read in sunlight and use as a phone. The controls are not logical and difficult to understand (press the arrow key down to see the last person who called, then up twice to see the previous callers). The biggest disappointment however is the speaker phone option in which the speaker and microphone are so directional you have to keep passing the phone between you if there's two of you and you're trying to speak to your family on the other end of the phone.
Stop working in a few weeks

I have this a gift to a friend in Atlanta. She just called me to tell me that it has stopped working over the 4-th of July weekend. It would have been nice if it had lasted a few months instead. I will have to find out how to get it repaired or replaced this week.

The sound quality of this product is no where near what it was rated. The line is always full of static.
Works OK for the price

I am generally pretty happy with the phone. One thing to note is that the answering machine doesn't have time stamps, not important to me but maybe to others.
Not bad for the price

The phones are good. They serve there purpose. The only problem I have with the phone is the ringing, they are low. The other thing is the Answering machine is very basic but like I said, for the price you can't beat it.
Nice phone. Could be better, though...

The Philips 1.9GHz DECT Cordless Phone combines a unique new phone technology with answering machine and speakerphone. DECT technology has been in use for some time in Europe, and it's finally reaching us here. Not only does it improve range, clarity, and security for cordless phones, it also allows you to integrate Data services with your phone; in other words, you can send data through a cordless connection. It even makes your cordless conversations more clear while keeping interference to a minimum. The Philips DECT2251 answering machine has 15 minutes recording time, plus call screening and remote access on the base & handset. With a back lit orange LCD display and an ergonomic shape for calling comfort, usability is central to this handset. LCD message counter Expandable up to 4 handsets Speakerphone Paging capability Call Transfer to another handset 30-name phone book 25-number call log Volume control Handset Polyphonic ringtones Backlit LCD screen Color - Silver
Good voice quality, disappointing features.

I have been happy with this phone as a phone. By that I mean the voice quality during calls is good. I have noticed zero interference as advertised. It is the other features I find disappointing. The caller ID window on the handset is kindof small, but it seems to me that they would have had enough room to put the number, the name of the caller and even the date/time of the call on one screen. Instead, they have put one at a time on the screen: Name (which appears when the call comes in), number, and date/time. This works fine for taking calls from people I talk to a lot, because I can see who is calling. But people calling from cell phones, the window just shows "wireless," which tells me nothing. And for others numbers this is just annoying.
Also, the answering machine in the base unit SUCKS. The outgoing message I recorded sounds like it was made on one of those walkie-talkies you had when you were a kid. If someone calls and hangs up when they hear the answering machine pick up, it records several seconds of silence, then a wierd noise, then a dial tone for a second or two.
With this high-tech transmitter DCT 6.0 stuff, you would think they could have programmed the digital answerer to know when someone hung up (like the Uniden I bought 6 years ago, that finally died this year.) I guess so many people use voice mail now, they decided the answering machine was somewhere they could get away with skimping.
Overall, I stick with three stars because the phone itself is great. It's small and lightweight, the voice quality is good, the battery life is good, and I love that I won't have to find some proprietary $18 battery when it needs new batteries, I just have to plug in two reghargeable AAs.
Not bad, just a few kinks.
Good Telephone

I used this phone for my skype call to China. The voice quality is great. It does not have many functions, however it does make fundamental communication function very well.
NOT A GOOD PRODUCT TO PURCHASE

I brought one Dect2251g/37 with an extension handset. After charging the base handset for the initial 2 minutes, the AC power adapter blasted. It's good that I had installed one of those power trippers to save my life :).
But overall, I won't recommend this product due to this kind of faulty piece i got.
VERY pleased with the quality of this cordless phone

I bought this cordless phone for my daughter for Christmas. She and her husband were more than pleased with the clarity of the calls and the feel of the handset. It's small and designed so one can't hold it with their neck, which can cause neck problems. They were so pleased, I ordered an expansion handset for them and a phone and expansion handset for my own use.
