Like my buds 2008-10-12
Use my ear buds just about everyday at the gym. I wish they had a little clip or something to attach to clothing while working out...I use a paperclip.

Great sound 2008-10-06
The product works great (sound, feel in ear, etc). I bought them for use at work and on the motorcycle. For the bike, the tension on the wire bothers my ear after about 30 minutes, but in the office they are outstanding.

Very comfortable and great sound, but unwieldily cable system 2008-09-20
These are fantastic earphones. Beautiful sound, extremely comfortable in-ear seal, and overall excellent-quality construction. So why am I giving this three stars instead of five? Because some idiot at Phillips' R&D department came up with the idea of an asymmetrical cable system. In other words, the right hand cord is ten inches longer than the left hand cord. This is supposed to make the cables easier to manage (after all, your iPod is only on one side of your body), but it ends up making the left earbud slip out of your ear constantly. This is not a problem if you are sitting or lying down, but if you are jogging, walking, lifting weights, biking (basically moving at all), then you are reaching down to re-insert your earpiece every half minute.
These are great earphones for the person who sits still 24-7, but for the active person (which applies to almost everyone), the asymmetrical cable design is a major design flaw and a huge annoyance. So here's your choice: superior sound and terrible cable design, or slightly inferior sound and the cable design that has worked perfectly for decades: symmetrical.

good sound, bad for exercise use 2008-09-07
The Philips SHE9500 plays loud booming sound when I'm sitting at my desk, but I bought them to jog with, and they fail at that purpose. The asymmetric-cable-behind-the-neck thing is a disaster for me when jogging. Any attempt to turn my head to the left causes the ear bud to pop out, since the cable sticks too easily to the back of my neck or shirt. Plus in my opinion, the extender cable is a pain--it's too short without it, but when connected, it causes a weight on the cable itself, which means any swing of the connector during movement will put tension of the earbuds. And surpise, they pop out. Still, the sound is very good, and songs recorded as lesser volume are easy to hear.

Sound good, wiring bad 2008-09-05
I have no complaints about the sound for the price but the wiring aggravates me. It's rubberized and, when you're moving around, it loves to grab onto clothing enough to pull one or 2 out of your ears. As long as you're not moving it's fine, but if you're doing anything physical you'll have problems.

And if these get tangled at all have fun. The stickiness of those rubber wires make an already aggravating task of untangling even worse.

I also don't understand the point of having the extra link in the middle. Completely useless and unnecessary.

Sound quality is great, Design is questionable 2008-08-19

great headphones 2008-07-31
pros: Great, very clean sound and loudness. high quality, very thin and flexible, tangle resistant silicone rubber jacketed wire. Inline, low profile 3.5mm 'pullout' protection connector. Easily opened up without tools for cleaning. THREE different sized sets of high quality, replaceable and extremely durable silicon ear gaskets. Good sound isolation ('passive noise canceling').

cons: not fully stable enough for sports. rear caps may need occasional regluing (with ordinary nontoxic gel glue). Wires can still tangle of course. for a good, simple protective keeper you are on your own.

Easily the best sounding headphones or earbuds I've ever owned. I've used these almost daily for nearly 2 years. They still sound as good as new. The subsonics are amazing, natural and sharp enough there is no need for boost. The high end is very accurate but not over powering. You can damage hearing with excessive high frequency anyway. (I suppose if you have ruined yours with excessive Metallica you might want something else)

Sports use is aided by hooking the wire around the back of ear.

The earbuds will crud up eventually and this dramatically effects the volume and the quality some too, but they are simple to clean-

Remove silicon gaskets. Pry off the back caps (held with simple latex glue) using fingernails or plastic knife, carefully pull out the drivers, touching only the back magnet or outer ring. Gently pull the housing down the wire and away from drivers. Blow off any contamination from driver. If not enough gently use Q-tip (easily damaged!). The fine screen at the end of the housing invariably gets blocked. Keeping each driver away from housing, use a little detergent and warm water with a toothbrush to loosen blockage from screen. Blow through the screen from inside. You can blow from the outside, but there is a very tiny foam baffle inside that will blow out. Be sure not to loose it! (it may protect from ultrasonic frequencies?). It's best to blow out foam baffles to observe light through screen and repeat until totally clear. Replace foam baffles with a mechanical pencil or fine tweezers. Check again with light to see screen evenly blocked by foam.

Pull wire back and reposition drivers in housing. Reglue back caps using non-toxic glue like elmers waterproof gel glue. No solvent based or super glues.

For active use, repeat every 6 months.

Not good for cycling / running 2008-07-13
The drivers sound good and this "extra-bass" thing is gimmicky ... i returned these because if using them outdoors or exercising, they become a wind-tunnel and create disturbances in the sound quality. good for desk/sedentary use. I ended up buying some sony in-ear buds.

Overeall a great product, especially for the price 2008-07-07
I bought these headphones because I had used three or four pairs over the last couple of months that I just found lying around, or that came with an mp3 player I bought, or whatever, and I wanted something of a better quality, because I had broken all of them. Well, I was hoping for something with a thicker wire. These might break as well. I also do not like that they tangle pretty easily, but not too severely. That's not a major issue. The sound canceling, as far as I am concerned, is quite good. I have never used any other sound canceling headphones, but I was surprised at how these made the outside world quieter (which isn't always good, in my opinion... I can't tell what's going on around me). The sound quality is also quite good, as far as I am concerned.
Here is why it didn't get 5 stars:
The cord is a little thin. I am afraid it may get a short.
I hate the headphones that have the cord to one ear longer than the other. It has become popular so I guess a lot of people like it. I hate it. These headphones do that.
They tangle pretty easily, but it's not a huge hassle.

Overall, they are quite good headphones and I am happy having paid 10 dollars for them.

Good for the price 2008-07-07
These are not from Shure, but for the 6 bucks I got them for, they are fantastic. Very comfortable, decent sound and they look pretty good. I quality wire, and overall good build. I would definitely reccommend these if they are on sale.
