For a beginner, Yamaha's Education Suite teaches you how to play. For the avid musician, the DGX220 offers features and tones for performance and creative productivity. With MIDI USB capabilities, you can connect the 220 directly to a computer. You can even save songs directly on the DGX220. Load and save up to 16 Registrations to User memory. You can change the "feel", or arrangement, of songs by simply pressing the Easy Song Arranger button, allowing you to re-mix any MIDI file. Full Keyboard Mode allows the player to play the keyboard like a piano with 76 keys.
Performance assistant technology is a feature from Yamaha that guarantees that you can't play a wrong melody note or chord. This keyboard offers Chord/Free Mode in addition to Chord Mode allowing those that have learned a melody with their right hand to have the keyboard correct the notes of their left hand. This allows you to concentrate on one hand at a time while learning. The DGX220 has 30 built-in songs, plus 70 more on an included CD-ROM for you to learn to play using the Yamaha Education Suite. In addition, you have the ability to connect to a computer via USB, download more songs from the Internet into the internal Flash ROM (PC only), and use all of the Yamaha Education Suite features to help you learn to play them. YAMAHA DGX220 Keyboard is Great Fun

My DGX220 came with a power adapter and keyboard stand. I like it's lightweight portability as I can move it myself. (We just got rid of an old, immoveable,space-eating piano we weren't using often.) The DGX220 provides lots of other voice and instrument options and the 76 keys are plenty for me and my kids as new players. It's a good, low cost alternative to a traditional piano if you aren't ready to make the time/money/space commitment required for something more permanent and substantial.

This "Made in China" product is cheap looking and not functional out of the box

It is unimaginable that a product, which needs power, is sold without AC adapter or batteries. But, Yamaha DGX-220 comes without either of them. So, it cannot be used out of the box. After taking it out of the box, it is very light weight and has a cheap look, contrary to how it appears in the online images.

My good impression on Yamaha musical products received a beating, after receiving this Made in China product.

Great Keyboard

I purchased this keyboard from Amazon back in August. It has been a wonderful tool. It is loaded with a lot of features. My favorite include the auto transpose and auto cording.

It more than meets my beginner needs and will advance with me.

Yamaha provides a good base product but fails to deliver the overall quality

The keyboard itself seems great, but Yamaha fails to go the extra mile. Items that would seem like no-brainers are not included in the package (including a power adapter, audio/data cables, or even batteries). Basically, the failure to include a power supply renders the product inoperable out-of-the-box. These items would have been inexpensive to include and would have paid for themselves many times over in terms of customer satisfaction and loyalty. If you buy this product, be forewarned that you will at least need a 12v power adapter or 6 D-cell batteries for it to even function.
