Compact Flourecent Lights not the greatest
2008-05-16
Compact Flourecent Light bulbs may be good at saving energy, but they still have several issues consumers should be aware of.
1) They cause headaches for a small percentage of people
2) They cause eye strain if they are the sole source of light in the room. (personal experience)
3) After several months of use they fail to light immediately when turned on and sometimes fail to light the entire spiral completely. (personal experience)
CFL Not for dimmers?
2008-02-23
SO far I haven't found any CFL bulbs that are rated as acceptable for dimmer controlled devices (like my dining room chandeleir). I love using these bulbs in my lamps and when I found them for the outside(ie bug bulbs) was really happy..I used to have to change those every MONTH..I haven't had to change one in over 3months!
Overrated brightness level

The light output seems more equivalent to a 40 watt incandescent bulb than the advertised 60 watt bulb light output.

We are very happy with the flourescent spiral lights we purchased from Amazon. The price was better than the stores, delivery was fast, and so far the product is doing it's job. Only long term will tell.
I like them but...
2008-01-30
I agree with most of the reviews. They're a good size, about the same brightness as a 40 watt, and the color is just a tad different, but I plan on buying more. There is one aspect that you should be aware of, though. I tried them in exterior fixtures and they worked just fine, even in sub-zero temperatures. But... if you plan to use them in an outside fixture that is controlled by an Intermatic timer that replaces the inside switch, when the termperature drops below freezing, for some reason, the timer senses this as the bulb being burned out and it confuses the on and off settings. The bulb still works, but it turns on in the morning and off before dusk. Except for this application I recommend them.
florescent light bult
2008-07-25
Sure they do save on electricity and last longer however people are not seeming to mention that they contain toxic mercury, which can be ingested or inhaled when they break. Also nobody ever talks about how florescent lights are not natural lighting and can cause seasonal depression or SAD. I will stick with my full spectrum natural lighting or open the shades , its alot less toxic to my health.
Not good...
2008-07-13
I currently have these bulbs, but yet I received an email from a family member letting me know that these bulbs contain mercury, very dangerous. If dropped you have to go through specific directions to clean it up as well as disposal if they do go out.
I won't be buying anymore, even though they do last a long time. :( I'm too clumsy to worry about the mercury.
Great small fluorescent bulb
2008-07-11
This fluorescent bulb comes in a small form factor (this is ultra-mini). Definitely smaller than a normal light bulb, and purportedly will save you $34/bulb over the life of the bulb.
After reading some of the reviews here, I tried out all the bulbs when they arrived, just to make sure that they didnt break on the ship over. All the bulbs worked (despite the skimpy padding in the box), so no complaints here!
Very Good Light for the Value
2008-06-21
Bulbs work very good in standard light fixtures. Comes on instantly though it takes a few seconds to come to full brightness. A little brighter than other CFLs that claim their the same as a 60W incandescent. Shipment of 12 each came very well packed. I used some of the bulbs in my ceiling fan lights (ones with no remote control, need dimmable bulbs for those).
Perfect for vanity lights
2008-05-30
I got these to go in the vanity lights over our mirror in the master bath, hoping they would be cooler on hot summer mornings than the regular bulbs, and they're great! Their light is more neutral, which helps in make-up choices, and they don't radiate heat like having six 60-watt bulbs do, so I can blow dry without the room getting too warm. The energy savings is just icing on the cake!
