Sometimes being dead is better. 2008-09-26
Pet Semetery is one of my favorite novels and the movie was fantastic, so it wasn't exactly like the book but then again who cares, some parts were still accurate like the scene with Zelda and the way Judd Crandell talked, I still ended up liking them both. Director Mary Lambert has a wonderful sense of visual style and manages to make this one of the few versions of King's stories that actually works and is quite creepy. Louis Creed (Dale Midkif) and his family have just moved into a new house planted right next to a road frequented by speeding trucks. When the family is away, Louis' cat is killed by one of the trucks and recognizing the family's love for the cat, Louis decides to bury the cat in the "Pet Sematary" the Indian burial ground hoping that the cat will come back to life. It does but the cat is now evil and definitely not out for love and affection, when Louis' son Gage (Miko Hughes)is killed he decides to do the same thing because he thinks he's found a way to save the corpses from the evil entity but when the son comes back to life it try's to kill mommy!. Overall Pet Semetery was a great and very creepy film and is definitely one of my favorites, it's a serious film with no cheese or silliness and the acting was convincing and very believable. I loved the story and how it dealt with loss, emotions and grief and how desperate some people get to have a loved one come back to life good stuff! also check out the scary scene where Rachel Creed tells the story about her sister Zelda who's suffering from meningitis with the creepy flashback, it was a very memorable scene. Anyway I highly recommend this film to horror fans but make sure you avoid that horrendous sequel.

Another King book, utterly destroyed by Hollyweird 2008-06-24
This book and Salem's Lot were my two favorite books from King.
What a pity, I think Salem's Lot has been remade at least three times and they STILL can't get it right.
Pet Sematary is yet another masterful book that Hollywood butchered.
Simply horrendous direction.
Laughable acting.
FX that stink.
A very non scary, scary movie.
I can't recommend this except for die hard fans of the book who have probably already seen this monstrosity.
AVOID!!!

Pretty good modern horror film 2008-06-18
Dr. Louis Creed moves his entire family to a remote Maine town where he will be the physician for a local college. Over Thanksgiving, while his wife and children are visiting her parents, his daughter's cat is hit by a truck and killed on the road in front of his house. The road has had a history of taking the lives of beloved pets since the dawn of the automobile age. Louis' strange neighbor leads him to an ancient Indian burial ground where he is instructed to bury the cat. The next day, the cat appears alive in Louis' garage. Louis thinks he has spared his daughter the trauma of losing her cat. However, the cat's nature has changed. Now the animal delights in tormenting Louis with such gifts as a dead rat while Louis is soaking in the bathtub. You see, while the bodies of the departed return alive their souls are not those of the original owner. One malicious reincarnated cat can't do much harm, but Louis soon experiences the loss of a human member of his family and he is about to see just how malevolent the forces are that rule the old burial ground.

Features include:

The individual performances are good but not great, but the story is a creepy one told quite well with great atmosphere. Highly recommended.

Pet Sematary DVD 2008-06-11
This is a classic Stephen King film! Ive been watching this since I was kid, its one of my favorites! Its two hours of surprises! This will keep you watching!

I like it 2008-03-01
i just recently saw this movie, i really enjoyed it, it was scary at parts, but i am sure that it lacked parts the book had as with all horror films. I often wonder how they could not keep an eye on gage, i mean he wandered to the road all the time, but hey, movies dont have to make sense. as for it being a pet sematary, the burial ground was near the CEMETERY....but over all it was a good film

One of the most underrated horror movies of all time! 2007-12-27
I was only a child of 10 when I was first introduced to this film. At that time of my life I hadn't seen a lot of horror flicks. In fact, I was still pretty much into watching my Saturday morning cartoons, and Disney Channel programming. Then on a dark and dreary night there was a babysitter, and this babysitter decided to watch a movie called "Pet Sematary." My dreams would never be the same again...

Pet Sematary is a movie which presents a plot that is easily appealing to the average movie watcher. A young doctor decides to move his budding family into a house located in the rural countryside. They explore the property, and meet the neighbor. It is within the first 30 mins. of the movie that it begins to intrigue you. Once you hear Judd the neighbor explain the significance of the shaded path beside their house you want to know more about it. From that moment on you're hopelessly hooked. Then it isn't too long until you're introduced to the movies darker side, which of course is the reason you'll be wanting this movie anyway.

The movie itself is the most terrifying movie I have ever seen. To this day I have watched it well over 50 times and some of the scenes still scare me to this day! It is a classic vintage of Stephen King's very best brew. I highly recommend this movie for anyone interested in the horror genre. Watch it only if you dare...

Best Stephen King Movie 2007-11-29
This has to be the best Stephen King movie made. Even after seeing this movie years ago it is still very creepy.

Sometimes it's better when a pet is dead!! 2007-10-25
I remember seeing this movie when it first came out.
The one thing about Stephen King is his books & movies
could almost happen in real life.
The story starts with a road that people drive like
bats out hell, they drive so fast that if your not
careful you might be the next returning from the dead.
I would recommend this movie if your a Stephen King fan!!
I rate this movie a 8 from 1to10!!

Seriously Silly, Not so scary nonsense I couldn't buy into 2007-10-25
So I don't think this is very scary. I suppose I'm becoming a little hard to scare in my old age. When I first saw Jaws; Petrified. Would not go swimming. When I first saw The Thing; FREAKED OUT!! What the heck was that? When I first saw The Shining; had trouble entering a bathroom (don't go there). High Tension; very.....tense, really. Pet Sematary; um, won't go to the pet Cemetery again?

I really had to think hard why this movie did not scare me or entertain me very much. The only reason I can come up with is that this movie took itself too seriously for its premise. A burial ground that brings people and pets to life? Why? What makes this ground what it is? It's NOT the pet cemetery! I usually don't have a problem with ridiculous premises in horror films. I would not like as many as I do otherwise. But I think this is only a small part of what put me off with this film.

So many things have to happen for this story to work that it defies logic and probability (fantasy elements not withstanding). Why would they buy THAT HOUSE? A little research would sway any potential buyers from buying a house near "THAT ROAD"! Why would Herman Munster even reveal his terrible secrets let alone suggest it as an option, having such a disturbing history with the place. Why is the laundry woman even in the film? She has zip, zero, zilch to do with anything! How can you NOT WATCH YOUR KIDS WITH "THAT ROAD" NEARBY?! A guardian gore-angel who breaks the rules (i.e.; "This is the last time I can help" and 10 minutes later he's at it again.) With all of these ridiculously convenient elements in place, how could tragedy not ensue? I think I could have played along had they not presented this in such a serious and reverent way. Silly premise, silly ignored caveats, why not silly approach? I guess it would not have scared some people then.

Well, I did give it 3 stars so I must think there are some redeeming qualities, right? Sure, the production values are top-rate. The story is cohesive (despite the laundry woman). The acting was OK (not great, but I really liked Fred Gwynne). Really, other than some silly special effects (zombie kid, which I found hilarious) there is not much technically to complain about. It is entertaining if you've got nothing better to do. It definitely takes a long time to get going. Way too much character development (the laundry woman?). Some unnecessary, but appreciated gore. Some horror clichés that work (who's not afraid of "under the bed").

My over all feel for this film is that its' setup is too long and ridiculous to take seriously for a film that takes itself too seriously. It builds itself up as a serious horror film and then cops out with cheap gore (appreciated) and an almost comedic gross-out ending. Very uneven.

The DVD is not much to get excited about either. Very long pieces concerning Stephen King, whom I am becoming less interested in with each film I watch (Shining being the exception). Some OK interviews and the like. If your a King fan you will like this stuff. I was slightly entertained but did not find it very scary and was disappointed in the end.

Can't recommend it unless you're a big fan of Stephen King films or are scared easily and you enjoy it.
