Shipping is a problem
2008-03-12
Great product, but shipping is a problem. First set of 4 arrived with one bad bulb. Replacement set arrived with another bad one (so Amazon got 2 bad ones and 2 good ones back - assuming the 2 good ones actually made it back in one piece). I am not so sure that ordering light bulbs to be shipped by UPS or USPS is a workable idea - they really throw this stuff around...
2 out of 4

I also had 2 broken blubs.
The other 2 are big, but work fine.
one star for each bulb that still works

This was my first experience with compact fluorescent bulbs. I ordered a four pack of the 23 watt bulbs and a four pack of the 13 watt bulbs. The 23 watt bulbs arrived first. They were thrown in a box with very little packaging. One of the bulbs had broken. This was a bit disturbing since they contain mercury. After doing some research, I learned that if you break a fluorescent bulb, the mercury is only hazardous within the first 15 minutes or so. This is because it is in a gas form and will soon disperse into the environment. So if you break one, walk away and try to ventilate the room it was broken in. Anyhow, I sent the bulbs back (including the broken one). This was very easy and I received new bulbs about two days later that were in their original packaging. Thank you Amazon for making this so easy. I also received a confirmation email indicating that they received the damaged bulbs. When I got the bulbs home, I found that they were slightly too thick to fit into one of my floor lamps. I consisder this a learning experience and I don't blame Globe for this. I put a bulb in my other floor lamp and it burned out in about 15-30 minutes. The second one lasted about two days. The third and fourth ones are still going after a couple of weeks. I would not order from Globe again.

Surprised by the amount of light that is produced by this product. Plan to buy more.
Two bulbs broken in shipment
2008-02-05
Amazon made good on the breakage. The bulbs arrived smashed because the vendor removed two bulbs from a six pack to make this four pack.
If I knew the problem had been resolved with the vendor and would not reoccur I would buy another 4 pack right now. The bulbs throw off nice light. Because I do not care possibly to file a complaint again and receive a charge back on my credit card I'll either wait until it becomes clear these bulbs are arriving intact for others or pick them up at a store.
3 burned out less than 1 year

Same Brightness

Globe fluorescent spiral bulbs yield the same brightness as ordinary 100 watt bulbs. The light from these energy saving bulbs is nice and bright, and I like the fact that they last a lot longer than ordinary bulbs.
Globe 230-Watt Flourescent Light

I agree with Betty Dravis and I wish I had her eyes for a bargain. "Betty Dravis Eyes", somehow sounds familiar. Well anyway these bulbs not only last longer they save a good deal of electricity. I have a hall light that seems like I was replacing it with conventional bulbs every couple weeks, a month at most. When I replaced it with a fluorescent bulb like this one it lasted 3 months at least and then the only reason I think it went out is the freight train that shakes the house after thirty years of rattling the rafters made the fixture flakey as a week old croissant.
"Green-up America!" These light bulbs are an easy way to start!
2008-04-23
In preparation for Earth Day 2008, Amazon researched ways they could help "Green-up America." They put their buyers to work, scouting out the best, most economical, energy-saving products available. I'll share the results of their labor with you at the bottom of this review.
With this year's "Green" campaign, I decided to get serious and do more than I had already done: All my household appliance are energy-savers, I'm fastidious about picking up litter around my neighborhood and recycling; and am always conscious of our planet. So what else could I do?
Suddenly it dawned on me that I'd been meaning to replace all the light bulbs in my home with energy-saving fluorescent bulbs. When fluorescent lighting became available in the small bulb sizes, I was hesitant to use them, thinking they'd flicker and look unnatural like the ones I had in my office years ago. But I tried a few of them last year and was pleasantly surprised to find they don't flicker and the lighting is fine. At that time I thought of putting them all over the house, but procrastinated. ... Well, you know how that is. ...
Well, now I'm seriously "Greening," so that's why I purchased these today; it's the easiest, most practical "extra" thing I can do. I ordered these 100-watt bulbs for reading lamps and some of the 60-watts for other areas. And now I feel good about myself because CFLs use approximately 70% less energy than incandescent bulbs and produce the same light output. One CFL bulb lasts from 8,000 to 10,000 hours or up to 10 years. This saves money in energy costs and bulb purchases when compared to regular incandescent bulbs.
Following is the information I promised at the beginning of this review: Amazon is offering other "Greening" products, many of them on sale from April 21-23 at 50% price reduction. Today is the last day to save, so visit Amazon's Gold Box and Lighting Deals for "Greening" your home. EARTH DAY was yesterday, but "Greening" is an ongoing process that must continually be addressed.

No good for the environment

I would rather take the extra energy use than deal with the poisonous mercury in these bulbs. Most will be thrown away and make their way to our landfills where they will leak mercury into the ground. If enough of them end up there they could leak this mercury into underground water sources. Lets come up with another alternative to conventional bulbs.
