Editorial Review
PC users are running multiple, intense software applications simultaneously, increasing demand on hardware resources. In the office, PC usage has changed from data entry and word processing to e-Commerce, online collaboration and an ever-increasing need for continual security and virus protection. In the home, interests have shifted from low-bandwidth photos and Internet surfing to downloading and viewing high definition videos, as well as advanced photo and video editing. The Intel Core 2 Duo processor was developed to meet all these demands.Built on the innovative Intel Core microarchitecture, the Intel Core 2 Duo desktop processor delivers revolutionary dual-core performance and breakthrough processor energy efficiency. With Intel Wide Dynamic Execution, Intel Smart Memory Access, Intel Advanced Smart Cache and Intel Digital Media Boost, this new processor is designed to do more in less time. Additional features to support enhanced security, virtualization, and 64-bit computing make the Intel Core 2 Duo the most impressive new processor developed for an increasingly multimedia-centered, high-definition world.Design changes in the Intel Core 2 Duo processors that improve performance also increase processor energy efficiency by operating at lower frequencies that require less power to run. Intel Intelligent Power Capability optimizes energy usage of the processor cores by turning on computing functions only when needed. This more energy-efficient processor supports smaller, more capable, and quieter desktop PC to conserve critical power resources.

Power with a small price 2007-12-26
This CPU is BLAZING fast. Don't be warded off by the mere 2.4GHz speed. Didn't you know? Speed isn't everything, especially with these models blowing away competition.

Pros: This is a high performance CPU, no doubt about it. It can outperform almost all AMD processors under the 6000+ series. But wait, there's more. This CPU was made to overclock. You can in some cases overclock by 50% even with stock cooling. I am using a Coolermaster Aquagate Mini R120 water cooler kit and have temps of 32C idle and 36C full load at a stock speed of 2.4GHz (2.39GHz if you want to be accurate about it). With an overclock to 3.6GHz (50%), I have 40C idle and 45C full load. Amazing. Simply amazing. Not only is the performance amazing, but the price is very affordable. This is great for the enthusiast or even somebody who is on a tight budget.

Cons: The truth is, there are no cons, unless Intel dominating the market is a con ;).

Other thoughts: I suggest you have a high quality motherboard such as EVGA's 680i series. If you're also going to overclock, you'll need a third-party cooler for efficient cooling.

it's a BEAST 2007-11-27
Wow, that's about how to describe this chip.

Do you really need it? If you aren't doing the newest games and massively intensive resource sucking programs there is no need.

I run anywere from 10-15 programs at once, including a couple MMORPGs, photoshop CS2, many browser windows, all IM programs, A key tracker for short cuts, MS Word, and several other programs all at the same time and this chip isn't even fased. I still end up with 30% not even being used.

This chip puts out heat like it's cool though, so keep that in mind. I put massive heatsink on this thing just to make sure it stays cool enough.

Unless you are running a program that can bog down the lower dual cores or even a single core 3ghtz chip then you really wont need this much processor. save your money and get a lesser chip, I find it extremely hard to even come close to using this chips full potential.

Best Processor 2007-11-08
I`m using it and very pleased, very fast and no problems.
I think this is the best buy for having a good computer.
It is stable and has good performance.

Only One Thing You Need To Know: ITS FAST! 2007-09-25
Theres only one thing you need to know about the new 2.4ghz Core 2 Duo Intel Processor: ITS FAST. From the seccond you take this out of the box its an impressive processor. The processor itself is small and fits in any 775 motherboard processor slot. The heatsink is pretty impressive looking and looks like it would be able to cool a nuclear reactor. I used this processor with a Gigabyte motherboard in a recent computer build and it worked flawlessly. The motherboard instatly recognized the processor and I was good to go. Once you get into windows you will notice a significant speed increase over non Core 2 systems. For the relatively low price of such a fast processor I highly recommend this.

5 out of 5 stars.

Fair performance for gaming 2007-07-30
I have this new conroe proc instead of my regular AMD processor. It was hard the change from AMD to intel since I am a gamer. However going thru a lot of review I decided to change. Now I am happy with the change and this proc rules. It has good performance and low power consumption. If you are not sure on changing from AMD to intel I can tell you that you do not have to worry about it. This is not the extreme edition but along with me Nvidia 7900 GTX it runs smooth all games. You can try it.

Great processor. Very fast. 2008-03-16
This is my first Intel processor. I've always went with AMD in the past. This Core 2 Duo E6600 processor was a little pricier than the AMD offerings but it's plenty fast and powerful for my needs (light gamer, audio recording/editing). I paid $230 and I think I got a good deal on a great processor. Purchasing through Amazon went without a hitch also.

I have a need: a need for speed 2008-02-17
I process thousands of digital photos, and I needed to increase the speed of that processing without busting my budget. I wanted to jump to a quad-core processor but my mobo couldn't support it. I pulled the 6320 processor at 1.86 GHz and replaced it with the 6600 at 2.40GHz, and got the 30% boost in speed that theory predicts. It certainly helps reduce my waiting time, and time literally is money for me.

Wonderful processor, very good overclocker 2008-02-06
I got this product from another seller, I installed one in my gaming mob with an ASUS P5N-E SLI with a stock fan and heatsink and another with a Gigabyte DQ6 with a Ninja heatsink.
What I can say is that this product is perfect and very good performance.
For the overclocking it is almost the best one for the money.
If you want performance for less than 200 $ than you should definitely go for this processor.

This CPU will eat Vista 2008-01-18
This CPU eats Vista alive, under optimal specs, boots Vista Business x64 in 20 seconds. Overclocks like a champ, almost as if intel built it with that in mind. Stable at 3.6ghz 40C at maximum load on air cooling. This CPU is also great for DVD editing/compiling, and blows my faster AMD 6400+ away. I almost regret not buying this CPU sooner.

Good dollar : performance value 2008-01-07
This is definately one of the best value for money you can get for a dual core processor. I am using it to run Vista Home Premium and it is no problem in terms of performance. My only problem though is that it is the limiting factor in my PC. My Vista performance index for my computer is 5.3 This overall value for the computer is based on the lowest value given to key components such as graphics, procesor, ram and hard drive out of a possible value of 5.9....and guess what, my processor is the component with this lowest value. While it is clear that this is not the best processor out there, it gives good performance and is a good start for a later upgrade. If you are a DIY person, get a good motherboard that can eventually accept an upgraded processor and change this when you feel the need for something better.

If you plan on keeping this processor for a long while then buy components that match its performance or else (like in my case) the processor may be holding back things like your graphics card (which for me is a PNY Nvidia GeForce 8800 GTX 768MB Graphic Card...given a value of 5.9).

Overall it is a good buy with one of the best price to performance ratio out there.
