Yummy Chicken!
2007-12-28
Received this unit for Christmas and I used it for the first time today. I bought a regular sized whole chicken (not huge, not small). I pierced the bottom skin and pushed the leg bones through it to secure the legs to the body and I used the kabob skewers that came with the unit to pin the wings to the body (I need to get ties, but the skewers worked fine). Then I covered the chicken with poultry seasoning and salt and pepper, and set the timer for two hours (as suggested in the enclosed book) - the chicken was delicious and my husband loved it. Well-cooked and juicy. I'm very happy with the unit.
Too tiny for chickens

The grill directions say that you can cook a 5 pound chicken in it. We managed to cook one, after trussing the chicken up like a captured bandit. We have not been able to replicate the act with any other chickens, even those weighing less than 5 pounds....we tie up their wings and their legs tight with string, but the bird keeps hitting the back of the grill, and the rotisserie refuses to turn. I thought my husband was going to throw the grill across the kitchen; he tried for 30 minutes to get the chicken to turn, to no avail. I wish I hadn't bought the darned thing....it was a waste of money.
