Wow. Blue Max runs great.
2008-07-12
My family and I, ( all 12 of us ) camped at Badin Lake for a week and this Generator handled everything we threw at it, and it was great on fuel. As far as the noise level, I would say that My Genny was about like a push mower running in place, Tolerable. Putting it together was no problem and took only about 5 min. two pulls ang she was running. DON"T FORGET THE OIL. 8 oz. no more , no less.
Thanks and God Bless, Rob.
very satisfied

I just received my generator a few weeks ago. It was shipped earlier than listed, that's a plus. When I took it out of it's packaging and installed the wheels all I did was add oil and a little gas to see if it worked okay. It started up with the very first pull. I could not believe it. I ran an extention cord to my new refrigerator ( a 25.5 cu.ft) plugged it in and no drop on the amps at all. Haven't had to run it since, which is okay because I only bought it as a back up in case we have another power failure like we did that brought on the floods. So far a great value for the dollar.
Good generator, poor packaging sets this up for damage.....

After reading the reviews here, I decided that this generator was a good deal. I read many reviewers comments about receiving generators damaged during shipping. Mine arrived damaged as well, but I do not blame this on Fedex or Amazon. I put the blame squarely on the company (Homier?....) that decides to put a 100lb item in a cardboard box without a styrofoam shell. My damage included a bent cage and a cracked cast housing that supports the engine and bolts to the rubber motor mount. I was a able to negotiate with Amazon and was compensated for this damage since the generator runs fine. I fabricated my own wheel kit and will fix the damage to the motor mount myself.
Most buyers will choose to get a replacement or full refund, this makes sense as well.
After adding oil, the generator started up easily and I ran a 1300W tool off the generator to test its output. I cannot attest to the long term performance of this generator.
great generator but horrible instruction

i got this generator few days ago, i'm having problem with the engine sputtering, more specifically the choke lever. i called the manufacture and homier and can not get a respond. it looks like a good generator; i don't want to send it back to amazon.
if you don't mind, can i e-mail you few questions? if you got it to work, please e-mail me at buckyball@netzero.net. thanks in advance

Great Value

I bought this generator in the fall of 2007, set it up and stuck it away in a corner of the garage. I don't even think I put stabil in it. We had a power outage 2 weeks ago that lasted a couple days. The generator started right up, ran the fridge, lights, and tv. The food in the fridge cost more than the generator, so at this point since using it in the power outage, its paid for its self. Good unit, reliable, everything works, no damage in shipping. Great price.

Read the reviews and ordered it based on the overall majority being positive. Joined prime so I could get it in 2 days via fedex since most here say fedex does a good job. Got it in 3 days but it was undamaged!
Put in oil (had a funnel) and gas. I choked it, no hint of ignition. The pull start on this unit has _quite a bit_ of resistance, not for lightweights or fragile folks.
I then removed the air filter to visualize the choke valve to ensure it was working...it was. Tried again without the filter. It coughed but then nothing.
I then opened the drain nut on the bottom of the carb. to ensure there was good gas flow and no airlock. Gas flowed fine. My gas was fresh so that isn't the issue.
Back to the choke and only a burp or two. Getting really tired at this point, 20 plus pulls.
Tried a good ole boy trick of shooting a bit of WD 40 in the carb which did help it fire off but it still didn't stay running. Frustration sets in. I'm thinking, "what the heck? All of those other folks had it going in two pulls!" I own a farm and know a bit so am not a novice at starting small motors.
Checked oil again and decided to drain some oil to where it was just above the add mark. Choked it, fired up but I wasn't quick enough to move the choke lever to keep it running (could it be I was tired?). Tried again and was quick enough but it went dead anyway...several times.
Very awkward position of the pull cord which seems to encourage a left hand pull. I'm right handed.
It finally cranked and stayed running with quick work on the choke lever. Trust me, if your unit is like mine, you will get very good at operating the choke lever.
I must have looked like heck because my farm hand walks by and says, "you know, when you get a generator you probably should get one with an electric start". "Thanks" dripping with sweat.
So about 40 to 50 pulls later, it runs. I'm beat. Anyone not fit and strong should not order this unit. For that matter, if you aren't fit and strong, get one with an electric start anyway.
About ready to 'test' my unit and it goes dead like it was turned off. "AHA!" I know what that is, too little oil, the sensor works! Put oil back in it to where I had it before, cranked it up with the choke and quick action on the lever.
Hooked up 10 amp, 110v air compressor and it killed my little blue max right now, like I had turned off the machine. Back to the pull cord. Unlike the instructions stated, I did have to choke it even though I had let it run several minutes to warm up. Several more pulls to my "running total" pun intended.
Tried to run the compressor again, with the same result so I then decided it was idling to low for the compressor to kick in without killing it so adjusted the idle screw up 2 or 3 turns. Flipped the switch, it sputtered but alas, it was running great!
Now a really good test:
I turned off the compressor when it had about 60 pounds of air pressure in it so the extra load the compressor motor would have to overcome would cause it to pull more amps at the start. It killed the generator. Ok, note to self: "Don't try to use compressor with generator if there is a load on the compressor motor."
It runs my small power tools no problem. I'm going to install a small 13.5K BTU rv a.c. this weekend and will test it on that. If I have the same problem, back to Amazon it goes!
Typical cheap China "crafstmanship". It does sound about like a small 20" inch cut push mower as far as loudness goes. Impressive considering...
The protective plastic panel on the back of the 110 receptacles/breaker fell off. When the motor on the generator cools off, I'll put it back on but it could be futile, who knows. The fuel line does not line up with the protective clip, the oil fill is a bit tricky, etc, etc. I'm not a picky person which is why I bought it to begin with.
My unit is running right now as I want to make sure it can run for a few hours.
I did not get the wheel kit but will probably go buy some heavy duty casters to bolt to the bottom which should be fairly simple IF I keep it.
I am praying for the 'one pull' start up others describe after using it. I will reiterate, the pull is stiff. The unit weighs 100 pounds and inched to me (several inches) each time with each pull!
Still, I give it 3 stars because it is an inexpensive generator. One note: my generator has "2600 watts continuous" on it not 2800 or 3000. The ad is a bit deceiving.
This is definitely NOT a 5 star unit. Crafstmanship, stiff pull, etc. It's a 300 dollar - 3 star unit, plain and simple. Seldom use of this unit is probably a blessing. You get what you pay for. In an emergency, it'll do the job and for a cheap camping generator, its a deal.
First Unit DOA - UPDATE
2008-07-15
I received the replacement unit about a week after they picked up the defective one.
When I first saw the shipping box, I thought I'd be sending this one back too. They should mark these things fragile (which means they are still thrown, albeit "underhanded"). Surprisingly, the generator survived without a scratch.
I added oil and fuel and, at first, it wouldn't start. Once I set the choke, it started first pull.
Funny thing about this particular machine, it has to be choked EVERY TIME. Even after running it for fifteen-twenty minutes it will not start without first setting the choke. I find this odd but doable.
It runs every powertool I have from demolition saws to pipethreaders. I'm impressed.
I do, however, have to take away a star for the way they tucked the pull starter in behind the control panel. With a little forethought they could have avoided this conflict.
For the price - unbeatable.
so far so good

havent really used yet. I did start it once I took it out the box. It started right up. I'm looking forward to using it in the future
No Shipping problems for me...

Honestly, I had low expectations buying this generator after reading other reviews... But since most claimed the thing ran perfectly after fixing minor details like mising bolts, or bent frames I figured being rather handy I'd give it a whirl.
My came perfectly unscathed. Not a scratch even on the box. I do use amazon prime, so it was shipped in two days via FedEx (for free), I have no idea if this made a difference.
I filled it with oil, put in some gas, it fired on the first try. You did have to play with the choke a bit until it got warm, but it's no worse than an old school motorcycle.
It seemed to produce more than enough juice. It got my monster table saw, a shop vac, planer, joiner, band saw to run perfectly. I will note though that the draw on the table saw is usually great enough to dim the lights on a 15 amp circuit. It did seem to nearly choke the generator on startup. I'd originally put it on the driveway and it rattled so bad it started 'walking' down the drive. I just picked it up and put it in the yard and that seemed to settle it's hash.
For the research I've done I'm very confident it'll be able to run both our fridges, and a microwave when the next hurricane blows through.
Gas tanks leaks
2008-07-13
Good value for a generator. Easy start. I bought the generator to run our travel trailer and it does a good job including the A/C unit. My problem with it is that the gas tank lid does not seal as tight as it should and gas splashes out on bumpy mountain roads. Thus the 3 start rating.
