Editorial Review
Lucario and the Mystery of Mew, the eighth Pokémon movie, ranks as one of the best features in this popular franchise. Director Kunihiko Yuyama and writer Hideki Sonoda sensibly keep the adventures and threats to a scale that's appropriate for the characters. (The first movies put the world at risk, and while Ash Ketchum is a good kid, he's not someone who can credibly save the planet.) Ash, Brock, Max, and May journey to Cameron Palace for a tournament that celebrates the valor of Prince Aaron, who saved the realm from destruction 1,000 years ago. Ash and Pikachu win, but the mischievous Mew kidnaps Pikachu, whom he's befriended. Prince Aaron's Pokémon companion Lucario awakens from the victor's staff to lead Ash and the gang to the Tree of Beginning, a mountain that is also a living entity. Ash risks his life to rescue Pikachu, proving the depth of their friendship to Lucario. The film includes lots of CG effects, most of which work well with the drawn animation: the earlier Pokémon films tended to look like two different movies spliced together.

The two-disc set also includes The Mastermind of Mirage Pokémon: A 10th Anniversary Special. In this 40-minute adventure, Dr. Yung invites Misty and Ash to take part in a special tournament on his new battle system. Yung creates formidable Mirage Pokémon from raw data, culminating in a super-version of Mewtwo, the powerful psychic Pokémon from the first features. Once again, friendship and kindness triumph over greed and arrogance, although the special ends with the words, "To be continued..." (Unrated, suitable for ages 8 and older: cartoon violence) --Charles Solomon

Pokemon what else is there to say 2008-06-09
This is like all other Pokemon movies, but every Pokemon fanactic will want it and will enjoy it. My son will still pull it out every now and then and watch it.

Okay DVD of a pretty good movie 2008-04-01
The movie itself is actually pretty good, with some nifty character development and some genuinely touching and funny moments. Lucario is a pretty cool character, with an extremely neat design and some cool abilities.
However, the DVD is lacking in two crucial areas: Lack of a Japanese language track, and it's not widescreen. Having seen the widescreen version on Japanese import, the full-screen picture ruins a lot of the nice shots in this.
Come on guys, get with the program and stop with the full-screen already! Also, an option to have the Japanese voices would also be amazingly appreciated.

Once Again Another Great Adventure 2008-01-23
This is part 9/10. "Lucario and the Mystery of Mew" was great. This brought back legend and I liked it. Considering Lucario isn't considered a bona fide legendary Pokemon this was above my expectations. However, I did not like the inclusion of Mew. I thought it was hoaky. I also believe Regirock, Regice, and Registeel could have played a bigger role, being legendary Pokemon even though they sound like a malfunctioning computer. I always get excited to watch this one.

pokemon fan 2007-06-27
This pokemon movie is just great!!! My kids just love it. It's a bit more action pack than the pokemon series. It has more action, more excitement and it keeps your child on the edge of his seat. It is very clean movie; no foul language or any of the other stuff parents worry about for their kids. It is a fun movie for children. If you enjoy the pokemon series; you'll enjoy this movie - Lucario and The Mystery of Mew. Highly recommend it. Your kids will not be disappointed.

Excellent 2007-06-07
My son simply cannot get enough of this movie. He has been a long time Pokemon fan (through nearly his entire 11 years) and could not wait to get his hands on this movie. Once he did it is all he can watch. A great purchase for any Pokemon lover.

Loved it 2007-05-15
My son loved this DVD an watches it all the time, but then again he is a Pokemon fan after all!

not as much action but good plot 2007-05-13
This was one of the more tammer of the pokemon movies. Some parts might be to scary and violent for kids under ten. When pickchu is carried of along with mewoth by a mew to the tree of ages during a cermoony during honoring the legendary Sir Eran who saved the kingdoom the world from other destruction about ten centuries before ash must make a new unlikely ally. A pokemon Lucario who is a pyshic fox like pokemon not as powerful as some of they earlier physic like mew and enti but strong enough for some decent action sequences. With a huge hatred for humans think his last master sir aron abaadon him and they queen. Can ash uncover the truth and will Lacurio trust humans again and save the world. What price will ash and Lucario have to pay to once again save the world from total destruction. This is only the second movie that mew has appeared he also appeared as minor characters in the climatic finally of the original first pokemon movie. There is not a min movie for this one there is a 40 minute special called mirage pokemon but that is on a second seperate disk. I think the people got tired of the min movies and thought they were dumb or cheesy after the release of the got to Dance mini movie. If you like this I also recommend you see the other movies however the first five movies might be to intense and violent for kids under the age of 15 depending on how easy they get startled.

Excellant 2007-05-12
I really enjoyed this movie. A true master is a friend to pokemon. A true master would sacrifice everything for his/her pokemon. Even if it means their life. I am glad that those that are self- serving end up learning a valuable lesson in the end.
