I was expecting a bit more...
2008-02-16
It's not a bad CD, but based on the songs that were released I was just expecting a better album.
she does have a great voice and as a Spanish speaker really enjoy hearing her sing in Spanish. Her accent is wonderful.
buy this one, but you don't have to rush.
Glad I bought it.

Bought it for my roommate as a gift. Arrived on time, good condition. Perfect for listening to when getting ready to go out. I just wish I still lived with the roommate so I could still listen to it...
Wasn't that bad...was it?

Some people expect some over-the-top 10 star rating magnificent record by Beyonce, over doing it much. I personally loved this album when it came out, but don't listen to it as much now. Yes, like a lot of people I liked some songs more than others. However, this album shows beyonce has still got it, songs like "Get Me Bodied", "Listen", "Upgrade U" are evidence of just that. She has this very unique RNB flavour that nobody can emulate, and I like the way she has her "ghetto-ish" accent when she sings, I love that about her songs, all have that strong attitude.
She is the most scrutinised female artist in the business at the moment and always has been since DC, I think people should lay off and admit "yes, she is a human being,, and she is not flawless..". I personally enjoyed this album, but like all the albums I own, I over-listen to them and can't listen to them any further, but after reading these reviews - people have it all wrong.
One thing I do agree with is the fact she has the same jazzy flavour in all her songs especially in "freakum dress", "green light", "kitty kat" and "suga mama" , but they are still really good songs.
I love this album, it's better than a lot of the female artists that are trying waaay too hard in the industry right now (no names necessary, you can figure that out). However, the 2007/08 album of exceptionally great music has to go MJB in terms of females and MARIO for the reppin' the males!
Sorry not this time

First thing, I know I'm a little late in reviewing this product, but I have been wanting to forever. I for one have followed beyonce since here days w/ DC. She's done hit after hit and when she finally did her own single, that was an excitement for me.
I loved her first album, it was a nice mix of uptempo and slow songs that could be in anyones slow jam collection. The songs were seductive but not tha distasteful.
Now we get to this album. I was fooled by the two singles "de ja vu" and "irreplacable". When my mom purchased this album, I took the liberty of listening to it on the computer. Now I was not expecting for a carbon copy of her first project but I was not expecting the mess that I got. As much as I like beyonce, I have to say that this album was garbage. The production was wack and very forgetful and the songs themselves didnt make any sense. The album sounded like one continous song rather than a balanced album like her first one. But hey, when you use swizz beats what do you expect? I just hope that she gets it together on her next album.
I'll still stick by beyonce in the future but I'll have to hear some samples of her albums from here on out.
1.9 stars. F
Get ME Bodied, indeed, Man. Get Me Bodied!

AND I do know that I am *THOROUGHLY DIGGING* this CD too!!!
My vibing songs are DEFINITELY:
Kitty Kat mid-tempo that explores loneliness, hurt, love-scorned and possibly cheating. Sorry, but I LIKE it.
Get Me Bodied up-tempo goodness. Slightly better than the extended mix cause it runs at 3:21 instead of 7:40(ish).
Irreplaceable although it is played out by now, haha
Freakum Dress fun up-tempo bout going out with your girls, and KILLIN' it with that FREAKUM DRESS!
Green Light better than Yes from DiL, which was on her first album. Love the "Go o o oh." 's.
Listen (an inspiring ballad. like the simply-stripped video, featuring a powerful vocal run by Miss B.)

4.5 (+) stars.
BTW, I almost hate Deja Vu. Piss-poor choice of a first single, should've been Freakum Dress or Green Light.
Worthy mention: Mid-tempo Ring The Alarm; very in-your-face and almost too bold, some parts aggravate (HIGHLY) at first, but let it grow on you, especially the, "How could you look at me...?" bridge, and we've got ANOTHER B'Day hit, Ladies & my sexy, sexy Gents.)
Edit: This album is awesome. But from first listen, you might not think so. The album itself took a whole 2 weeks to do, and some songs sound like it. But trust, if you let it grow on you then it should be good! Club banger after club banger, with two ballads at the end.

Here we GO again! This really deserves a ZERO!!!!!!!!

Here WE GO AGAIN, she TRICKED her FANS YET AGAIN! Great first 3 SINGLES & everything else is WAYYYYY BELOW AVERAGE! Just a DOWN RIGHT AWFUL ALBUM!!!!!!
Beyonce is one of the few artist in R&B that seems to have striked an addiction with fans around the world. She is also one of the few acts where i feel people will run out to buy her CD even if you're not a huge R&B fan. I do find her as a SINGER to be very interesting and i like her voice and ENERGY. But i don't like her during interviews because she talks really slow and sometimes so SLOW that she actually makes the interviewer forget what question he initially asked her. That's how long it takes her to answer questions on live TV interviews. She is so powerful at answering slow that she can literally throw you off of track from the main topic. WOW!! With that being said i like her as an artist and she has a fascinating & powerful voice. Deja Vu is a great lead off single but it's basically the sequel to Crazy In Love. On top of that she is yelling & SCREAMING when the song just started. GURL wait till the end, your not Deborah Cox. She must have thought that's what her FANS wanted to hear. All the yelling actually just gets annoying after awhile. Real BORED real FAST! Her 2nd single was a great track but once again a lot of yelling. Overall i still enjoyed it because it was something different that i didn't expect from her. 3rd singles was either Upgrade U or Irreplaceable which are both great songs but not sure which one came out 1st. I didn't even expect a 2nd album from Beyonce to come so soon. But she is FIESTY and wants to keep her REIGN of SUPREME to stay on TOP FOREVER! Every other song on the album is a DUD! I didn't expect a stellar album but she's a commercial artist so i expected at least 5 good songs on this album as i did with the 1st one. All I got again was 3 worthy tracks worthy of being mentioned. 1 star for 3 great singles and nothing else. On top of that she had the NERVE to release an album only containing 10 songs. 10 songs do not make an album and 9 songs with 2 interludes do not make an album. So Cassie if you're reading this that's directed towards you! The last thing is Beyonce has the NERVE to re-release the album with extra songs that should have been including in the original. You're not Mariah Carey OK!!!!!! Beautiful Liar would have saved this album from its HARSH reviews if it was released when the initial album came out. Instead she has to re-release and charge extra for stuff the fans already have. And the re-release has like 20 different versions of Beautiful Liar. I do give her credit for being one of the few R&B singers that can keep the attention of music lovers and the way certain other artist just can't. But behind the IMAGE laid an AWFUL ALBUM!!!!!
Horrible CD

What the heck was she thinking? Dangerously in Love is a Classic, but this BDAY is a step back. Sorry Beyonce. Telling women to get a Frekum dress when he does wrong is why HIV is steadily rising in black america.
Beyonce or Jay Z
2008-04-14
Beyonce doesn't do as well without Destiny's Child. All the songs are forgettable and her only hits on both CDs that I like have Jay Z in it. Beyonce needs to get back with the girls and stop depending on Jay Z.
Not that bad
2008-03-04
Okay, it's no "Dangerously In Love", but it's still a decent album in it's own right.
