Fantastic Software

Dragon NaturallySpeaking 9 is an unbelievable and extremely effective program that I've used with lots of success. It is as accurate as the company claims and the features are fantastic. This program has lots of extremely useful features, and as long as you get a microphone of reasonable quality you will be extremely satisfied with the features, ease-of-use and phenomenal skill of this program. this is the absolute best program, you can buy if you're looking to find a speech recognition program or you would just like to increase your productivity in the office or would like to work and do your school assignments faster. This is a definite buy!!! :-)

Happy ending: Vista has its own speech recognition software

It turns out that Windows Vista has its own speech recognition software--and it's great! You can use it to do all your Windows commands, too, like opening and closing programs and files. (Typical that between work and kids I don't have the time these days even to find out what all these gadgets around me are capable of doing.)

I suppose this is why Nuance has no plans to make Dragon Naturally Speaking compatible with Vista Premium, and I suppose their customer service department had no obligation to tell me about a competing product. (I discovered it when I went to the [...] with the intent of posting on their technology forum, and in searching for the David Pogue article on Naturally Speaking I turned up another one on Vista's speech recognition software.)

Anyway, I can use Dragon Naturally Speaking V9 on my work and other computers, and so far it does work superbly well. It's incredibly quick and easy to learn, too. So I'm retracting the 1 star I gave it earlier and giving it 5 stars instead.

Good but takes lots of work

I was anxious to use this product and got it loaded right away.
However, it takes quite some time to "train" the program to understand
your speaking style. I'm still working with it. It is superior to
the older products. I find I must speak more slowly than normal. I would
recommend if you have time to work with the product for 8-10 hours to
train it. I just haven't found all that time yet.

Beware and be ready to pay $10 PER CALL to support line!

I will definitely NOT buy this product. I refuse to be RIPPED OFF $10 for EACH AND EVERY time you e-maill or call customer service. This is totally ludicrous, and the support service should be included with the purchase of the product. Apparent Nuance Dragon Naturally Speaking is trying to squeeze every nickle and dime out of their customers. I refuse to by any product by a company that will do that to their customers. I think this is about the ONLY company that charges for their support. Try to find an alternative voice recognition software company who will support their product free of charge. SHAME ON YOU, NUANCE DRAGON NATURALLY SPEAKING.

Time saver & speech coach

When I've tried speech recognition products in the past they were cumbersome and any time savings was lost in correcting errors. With Natuarally Speaking there is still a learning process of how to use the tool and its many capabilites (like editing), but it is definitely a powerful, time-saving tool. It also has helped me see where my spoke word is unclear, so that I can start reworking how I communicate. Thus it has also become a speech coach.

Excellent school aid

I bought this for my 14 year old grandson. He uses it to do reports for school and thinks it is really cool. Instead of proofreading his work for spelling errors, this program does it for him. He has a tendency to mumble and the program won't work unless you speak clearly, so this was an unexpected plus and will hopefully carry over into everyday speech. Finally, because he enjoys using it, his reports are more detailed and thorough. He truly likes speaking "Dragon".

Does not save time for me!

Impressive speech recognition but still makes unacceptable number of mistakes. Editing them, takes away any speed advantage. I am a South Asian physician with electronic medical records. I am still trying to achieve the ultimate goal of being able to get the computer to transcribe. However, still no real joy!Good fun though.
