Squeeeek no more installation tool

Excellent product. well documented, easy to use. Stops squeeks and thumps in floor or subflooring without any damage to carpeting.
I have been wanting to buy this device for about 5 years and finally got one.. Vendor was perfect with regard to communications and shipping.
Thank You
Works Just As You'd Hope

We had a squeaky step under some standard pile carpet. I wasn't too optimistic that we'd be able to do anything about it, but, with this kit, we eliminated the squeak in about a minute. I haven't tried these screws on a hardwood floor yet, but they worked like a charm on our staircase.
This product really works

Before trying Squeeeeek No More, I tried everything else I could think of. I tried companion beams for the joists, cross beams between the joists, forcing floor glue between the joists and the floor, finishing nails through the carpet into the flooring and the joists below. Nothing worked until Squeeeeek No More. This product did what nothing else could do. It stopped the squeaks.
It's Ok But...

The product does what it says it would do. However, I could not find the joists no matter how many holes I drilled. When you hit a joist, the drill is supposed to come up on its own when it is reversed. This never happened for me even after going in different directions within 16". I still had to lift the carpet to get an idea which way the joists run. I wish there was a better way to find joists without lifting the carpet.
No More Squeeeeeks

This product worked as advertised. We used it through carpet and it worked extremely well.
squeek gone

with a little patience, and a realization that the screws will not be installed where your foot makes the floor squeek, this product works well.
Great Little Gadget

I recently purchased this kit at Ace Hardware for under $20 and it has really worked wonderful. The upper level of our townhome was unbearably squeaky, especially my kids room. It took us about an hour to fix the entire room. Most of our time was spent marking the location of the joists. This task turned out to be really easy by finding the first one on the side of our heating duct outlet and measuring to mark the rest (16 inches apart). We just laid down masking tape along the width of the room at each joist location, then we could find each squeak, drill a screw in it, and quickly move down the tape line along the joist to the other squeaks. The room is almost silent now. I say almost because there was one area that no matter how many screws we put in, just wouldn't quit. But I am pretty sure it is a structural problem rather than the fault of the tool. All in all, I would recommend this product to anyone who has a squeaky floor.
Good but not great

This product worked as advertised but definitely is not a solution to all types of squeaks. It worked well in some spots of my second floor, but the joist finder is such a pain and is far from exact. Also, if you have berber carpet, double your work time because you have to tape every screw and the joist finder each time you use it or your carpet will be eaten. Expect some blemishes left in the carpet, but it wasn't bad. Also, this system did not work at all for me on squeaky steps. I don't know if the source of the problem was at fault rather than the kit, but I finally gave up. It's probably worth a shot to get this if you have a couple problem spots, but if it's widespread...not sure.
Good product, but some skill and luck required

We have some squeaks (groans really) that have developed in the flooring under the wall to wall carpeting in our six month old new house. The builder assured us that nailing and gluing the decking when installing would prevent sqeaking. He sent his skilled carpenter by to quiet the squeaks. He was somewhat successful with shims from below or finishing nails through the carpet from above, but gave up in frustration on one particularly annoying spot. He had not heard of Squeeeeek No More (as featured on *This Old House*). I bought it and was able to stop the groan in front of one of our bedroom closets in an hour using four screws and a bit of trial and error plus luck and carefully following the directions. I chalked this up to the learning curve, but saved the next squeak to quiet another day. The next one was resolved with the SNM system in about 5 minutes. Was I more skillful or just luckier? The third one (the one the carpenter gave up on) I also fixed quickly. This was too good to be true. Then I tried it on a fourth place and eventually gave up. The squeak persisted no matter how many screws or how carefully placed. When it works, it is great, simple, effective. When it doesn't work right away, it it can lead to frustration and requires patience and resolve. Better leave it and come back another time when rested. I wondered why they don't just screw down the flooring in the first place, but decided it was probably too expensive both in material cost and, particularly, labor costs. A man using a power nailer can stitch a floor seam at sewing machine speed, but screwing the floor down would be a whole lot slower. This product works well, but it does not perform miracles every time. There is art to the science. I considered gifting the kit to my carpenter and letting him do the work, since the house is still under warranty; but I wanted to try it myself first.
Works as advertised

This product does a good job quieting squeaks caused by loose nails at the floor joists. It won't stop wood-to-wood squeaks between two floorboards not located at a joist, but it was not designed to do that. Easy to use if you're moderately handy. The joist locator screw is a nice feature. I had one screw break off above the scored area so had to pound it into the floor with a hammer and punch. And two screws broke off while I was driving them in - removed them with vice grips. But 98% of the time it works as advertised. Now I can walk around late at night without waking the baby!
