It's saving our trees. 2008-07-25
Dynatrap really works. The dreaded Japanese Beetles have come for the summer, but we're doing our part and trapping a ton of them. There have also been a lot of moth-type things and plenty of mosquitoes too. We empty it into a ziploc bag every couple of days, then spray in just a shot of bug spray to kill off anything that's still squirming around. Once we saw how well it worked, we started leaving it on 24-hours, but it definitely is the most "busy" at dusk and overnight. We keep it up on the deck, but may buy a second one for the patio on the other side of the back yard.

Great at catching Mosquitos! 2008-07-23
I bought this product before mosquito season and it has resulted in a significant decline in the mosquitos in my backyard. The bulbs needed to be changed after 3 1/2 months of use. (I don't remember how long they are supposed to last) When the bulbs went out - back came the mosquitos! I was considering the mosquito defender but I didn't want to spend over $200 bucks for it plus the upkeep of propane. This is a great alternative!!! I'm very happy with it!!!

Fair at best 2008-07-14
I have had this for two years now and most it catches moths, just as everyone else says. I hope that the birds and bats get hungry by not having moths to eat and therefore, they eat the "bad bugs" I want this to catch.

Bad points: I am on my 3rd set of bulbs and the replacement bulbs are NOT cheap. My 3rd set is about to fail so plan on at least $40 to $50 in bults PER YEAR; I am on my second unit because the first one stopped lighting the lamps after a few weeks; the build quality is poor; it is WAY over priced - for the quality it should cost $40 or less.

Good points: It is quiet; it does get rid of moths.

Overall: I may buy another but only if it was much much lower priced.

Moth Catcher 2008-07-05
We've had the unit for about two months. It attracts lots of moths and june bugs, but it hasn't really dented the mosquito population at all. I was worried that it would attract beneficial insects, but there are very few lady bugs or other beneifical insects inside. It does reduce the number of june bugs flying around the deck so we keep it on.

This does not work. Don't waste your money. Now I am in the process of sending it back, which I am glad I put the charge on my charge account, because it has a dispute department.

1/2 a deck, not 1/2 an acre 2008-06-28

Owned for a year 2008-06-23
I had it for one year. Like other reviews, the product catches all kinds of insects AND mosquitoes. I think it works well for the money and is cheaper than chemicals and propane costs. My original set of bulbs JUST now blew out after all of last season and part of this one. I am buying a second one for the front yard. It's not perfect but was a good value.

Happy in NJ - Buying a Second DynaTrap TODAY! 2008-06-13
OK... I am one of those people that cannot be outside for even a second at dusk, without getting at least 4-10 new mosquito bites. I knew that I would be able to review this product after only one night of having it out.

Well, after the first night... here I am, very pleased, and am about to buy a second one, and will also purchase spare bulbs (just in case) and Octenol to try and attract EVEN MORE of those pesky mosquitos.

I peeked in this morning, and it didn't look like there were that many mosquitos in there, they are hard to see... they're skinny little guys, and the flapping moths made it hard to see how many mosquitos were really in there. But boy oh boy.. when I had a second to empty it out. WOW.. they were hard to count, but I'd say between 50 - 100... and that's just ONE DAY!

I read all the other reviews here at Amazon before buying, so was prepared for the possible pitfalls, and it looks to me like the company has made an effort to improve it's weaker points. It comes with a band that affixes with velcro around where the bugs fly in. You place on there when you shut the unit off, so the bugs don't fly out at you. It comes with a nice long cord (10ft, someone here said their cord was shorter). It also comes with a brush to clean it, and a sturdy clip to hang it from (someone else here said that it needed a better clip).

I have shady areas at the very left and very right ends of my backyard, and even during the day, If I venture into those areas to get a ball or something... I get BIT! The one Dynatrap hangs from a tree branch in the shady area on the left side, near our patio and table. My new DynaTrap, which I will order as soon as I am done typing this, will hang on a tree branch on the other end of the yard.

I am hoping that 2 traps in my yard will somewhat diminish the population. That's all I am looking for. I think if people expect to not see a single mosqito EVER again.. they are expecting too much. I personally don't plan on going out on my patio at dusk, untill I have my new traps hanging for a week or two (I have a screened in porch.. and that's where I'll be).

I will write another review after I recieve my second unit and have it up for awhile, and will likewise mention when (if) bulbs give out, and whether or not the traps work without the bulbs as well.

I live in New Jersey (about 200ft from a still shallow lake), and it was helpful for me to read that others somewhat near me (Maryland, Boston) said that this unit worked. I think that regional populations behave differently.. and I was ssoooo hoping that this worked... and so far so good!

I should also mention that I bought my unit here at Amazon, got free shipping, and received it in maybe 3 days... pretty darn good!

I live in an area infested with mosquitoes and sandflys (no-see-ums). I bought this as a low-cost alternative to the propane using traps which cost more than a $1 a day to run. I ran it for three days and nights. It caught many more moths and beetles than mosquitoes or sandflys like the other reviewers say, but it did catch them. There were almost no bugs caught durng daylight so I hooked it up to a timer and had it come on at dusk and off at sunrise. It caught just as many and probably saves light bulbs and power. I have my doubts about the Co2 claim but the light does attract bugs. I don't like the fact that it does not kill all the bugs which means you have to carefully remove the cage and put them in a plastic bag with some insecticide to dispose of them. It would have been a better design to have a net bag attached.

South Florida Mosquito destroyer 2008-06-10
Wow! The Dynatrap works GREAT for us! We have a 5th wheel camper that we keep on our lot on Chokoloskee Island in the Everglades National Park. We keep the Dynatrap under the camper and leave it on 24/7. The first 5 days we trapped well over 500 mosquitos. Then we bought the Octenol attractant and placed one in the trap. Over the next week we trapped THOUSANDS! The trap was literally 3/4 full of mosquitos. Yes it does trap other insects such as moths, as do other mosquito traps, but the Octenol attractant really grabs the mosquitos attention! The 3rd week we nearly filled the trap again with mosquitos (I estimate 5,000?). We will never rid our camp of mosquitos since it is in the Everglades, but we sure are putting a big dent in the population in our immediate area! The neighbors on both sides just ordered Dynatraps after seeing our results. Great item for the price!
