JUST GOT IT AND HAVE NOT HAVE THE OPPORTUNITYT TO ACTUALLY GIVE A GOOD ASSESSMENT BUT I DO HOPE AND AM CONFIDENT i HAVE PURCHASED A GOOD PRODUCT.

We have a fairly large office here. Our records department is currently using this shredder and they absolutely love it. It is fast, strong, and dependable. It takes cards, staples and small paper clips with ease. I highly recommend this item!
Does what it says it will do! 2008-06-20
Most people who review shredders will state (and in my experience accurately) that you should assume capacity at only 50%. With the SB-97Cs that is not true. Capacity is far closer to the stated 17 sheets per pass than you might believe. 12-15 sheets at a time is my norm and the machine just goes right through them. Try more than that and you might hear it slow down and, every once in a great while, stop.
The automated features work well. The bin is large and easy to empty. This is a good machine, a real workhorse and I highly recommend it.

This is by far the best shredder I have ever purchased. Best price, quality, shredding speed, nice design, fast delivery, and I couldn't be happier. Previously I bought a shredder that didn't last a year, but this one came with a longer warranty period which made it even better. I will buy this product again should there be a need.
Great shredder....so far... 2008-06-01
For some reason every shredder I've had has been pretty tough but they all have Achilles heels. There are plastic gears that get worn out or something breaks and you end up with a 50 pound paper weight!

Got tired of shredding every individual sheet of paper received in the mail. No problems now! It chomps through multi-layers. Saves me time and frustration. I am very happy with this machine, it does what it said it would do. I'm happy!
Fellowes Shredders have saftey issues with Auto Feed Sensors

I have owned one other Fellows shredder I bought at Costco. The shredder shred paper just fine and as advertised, but the Auto Feed Sensor malfunctioned and quit working entirely.
At first on my older model, it was possible to clean the sensor following Fellows instructions, Q-tip with rubbing alcohol, but it finally just stopped working all together, an electronic failure in the circuitry is my best guess.
I purchased this newer Fellowes Power Shredder because I feel having a non-working safety sensor is bad for kid and pets. But only after about 1-month of occasional shredding the sensor started getting flakey and completely stopped working. I noticed the shredder would turn itself on when I would turn on my microwave which shares a power strip with it which I thought was very strange. I don't have electrical problems in my home and my best guess is that these Fellowes Auto Feed Sensors are not designed well at all as many, many people complain about them breaking.
Yes cleaning them does work...for a while but they have a very nasty habit of just failing after some time, but with the Fellows Power Shredder it just broke, cleaning made not difference.
Mine is new enough I could return it under warranty for a replacement, BUT having to pack it up an pay for shipping the heavy item is just not work the hassle.
Fellows shredder from my experience are solid well working machines with the exception that the buyer should be aware of this safety issue and expect them to become MANUAL type shredders sooner or later.

I use the shredder every day to securely get rid of personal information that comes in the daily mail. It makes me feel good inside every time I use it. Just an other small precaution we should use these days.
The unit works perfectly.
A Great & Easy Investment 2008-07-02
I finally went out and bought a decent paper shredder after having one that only did five sheets at a time and was flimsy and top-heavy. Fellowes has an excellent reputation and I am glad I spent the money on this very cool shredder. It is a heavy duty machine and even though it says it will take up to 17 pages, I have fed it more (granted, it goes a little slower but gets the job done). No more waiting forever. Entire envelopes full of bank statements just zip right through the entry. The safety feature allows the machine to shut off when the entry area is touched. Unlike my old shredder that did long cuts of shredding, this shredder crosscuts the paper into tiny pieces which compacts easily. Plus having 10-gallon container means less garbage bags (my old shredder was a 5-gallon and filled up quickly). I also burn a lot of CD's (with mistakes) and this device just grinds them up (never break a CD with your hands - they splinter into tiny fragments). You also can stop worrying about a jam with thick staples. This model will notify you when it jams and I have only had that happen few times when I really tried to push it. The built in casters make for easy moving around and the whole unit is attractive. Also the idea of a seven-year warrantee is a good guarantee that you have a quality product. Like I said, Fellowes has a great reputation.

This shredder really does perform well for my small office - I don't use it constantly, but when I do, it never fails.
